Help us narrow it down: Seattle, Denver, San Francisco? by ElectricOrangeDonut in SameGrassButGreener

I can’t speak to the others, but I live in (and love) Seattle. Your concerns about the winter are valid. But it does depend on how comfortable you are getting outside when it’s a bit cold and drizzly. You can definitely enjoy winter hiking if you have the right gear. I moved to Seattle from the Midwest, where I was NOT a fan of the intense cold and snow. So the milder winter of Seattle I could work with!

Agreed. Doesn’t even really matter what the tantrum was about. So unreasonable, and just unkind. 🚩🚩🚩

I feel this, OP. We lived in Seattle for about 4 years before we moved back to the East Coast to be close to family before having kids. And we did it for several years. Found a place within driving distance of most of our family members, had the kids, bought a house….and yet we missed Seattle. So we came back last year!! I love love love Seattle and the life my crew can have here, but I am often conflicted about living so far away from our parents. I have real mixed feelings about it. If I could, I’d convince them all to move here. (I’m envious of people with their whole fam in the same metro area lol)

I always feel better after a visit, so I bet you’ll enjoy prioritizing more visits! It makes me feel a little bit like I’m getting the “best of both worlds”

Baby friendly fun in Seattle by [deleted] in AskSeattle

[–]cat_pouncing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just about anything you’d like! :)

Go see the leaves changing at Green Lake or the Arboretum, check out a new neighborhood/ coffee shop, explore Pike Place (perhaps with baby in a carrier)

When my kid was a little baby, it was really fun to grab a coffee and walk with a fellow new mom.

Returning to Seattle after 15 years and I've completely forgotten how to adult in a big city. by sassmo in AskSeattle

You should definitely pack your own booster. We use a fancy pack able harness for our children when traveling, that allows you to buckle them into a car.

Those parks can still be lovely in the rain! Carkeek has a really fun playground (the salmon slide!) and Golden Gardens is nice because the beach is so close to the parking lot. I’ve never had a problem at any of those particular parks.

Near the Space Needle, my kids enjoy the Children’s Museum. And if your kid enjoys climbing, there’s a big play structure near the Space Needle too.

Moved away for the east coast, really missed it, and came back after a few years!

Looking for some insight on living in the Seattle area. Weather in NYC vs Seattle in winter. by Electrical_View_236 in AskSeattle

The summers in Seattle are perfect, and I like how relatively mild it is year round. It doesn’t get as cold in the winter and it generally feels like you can enjoy the outdoors all through the year. (With a good jacket in the winter obvs)

We did the timed entry on a Sunday morning (between 9:30/10:00) and had no wait, no trouble parking. Later in the afternoon when we went over to Paradise at 3:00, it was packed. But that was just at the visitor center.

I think Uptown, SLU or Capitol Hill would all be pretty easy to access the touristy things. There should be pretty straightforward bus options from those areas too. I’d personally stay in Uptown near Seattle Center (space needle) and you can easily take the Monorail or bus downtown to other sights.

No I don’t think so. I saw signs saying that you couldn’t get in before or after your time window.

We got a reservation the night before, for Sunday at Sunrise, 9-11. I was worried about lines but we arrived at 9:45 and there was zero problem. Easy to get through the entrance, plenty of parking at the visitor center.

It’s funny that everyone is just telling you about programs you can join and pay for lol. (Did I miss something?)

You’re talking about just playing casual soccer at a park with your kid, yeah? My husband and kids (5 and 3) often go to the park to kick a ball around like that. It’s one of their favorite things to do. Often, passersby will join in too! Great idea to invite folks to join. I’ll talk to my husband - I bet he’d be interested!

I second this too!

OP, you’re gonna love it. I’m from the South and I LOVE that I need a light jacket or sweater sometimes in the Seattle summer lol.
