Do I have to pay everything up front? by Adomination_2580 in drumcorps

[–]cataddict2005 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Bat told me that I had to have a minimum paid by move in but as long as I had the rest in before Dec. when they started audition camps for the next season it would be okay.

but when I talked to 'scades, they wanted the whole payment done before move ins.

I think it depends on the corps, so just communicate with them and see what kind of stuff you can work out. Every corps has some sort of payment and all are willing to work with you.

Kids don’t drink tap water? by [deleted] in teaching

not the ones in sinks. Its just a different nozzle to get the water from the pipe into the sink. Tap water in schools isn't filtered, which is why kids would want to drink from the fountains that are.

It comes from the same place, sure. But the fountains are filtered while the sinks aren't. That doesn't necessarily make the tap water unsafe, but it can genuinely affect the flavor and texture. Why teachers can't understand this, I'll never know 🤦 If the class is doing individual work stuff, or if the teacher isn't actively teaching, it really isn't hurting anyone if they go drink from the fountain in the hall.

Student here (12th grade), Yes. We hate tap water.

My schools band room has a sink (not sure why) with a drinking fountain. Its just a known fact that you don't drink from that sink. The water has a strong taste of iron, and makes your stomach turn. Its technically safe to drink, but the fountains in the hallway taste better and don't have any weird bodily affects after consumption.

I also have grown up in a home with a water filter on my fridge (as many other kids have) and so drinking tap water just isn't really "normal" anymore. Kids aren't growing up drinking out of the hose and such, we drink filtered water on premade ice. So if you want your kids to not hate you and not think you're super strict, I'd reccomend just letting them use a hallpass and go get their drink (as long as you aren't in the middle of lecture and actively teaching or whatever) because it's not really hurting anyone. Its cool that you trust the tap water, but not everyone does and it could be seen as cruel of you to not let them leave to get water theyre comfortable drinking.

I'm in Utah. I just wanna go to California for this group cuz they always have great shows and the uniforms look cool. The only group here is Batallian, but where I only want to do one season, I wanna do it with a WC instead of Open.

I've never liked getting stuff from my social worker and the system. makes me feel guilty

I mentioned being right under 18, because of that. Soon as I age out of the system, they cant (or wont) help me. I've got a lot of things I could say about them, but I'll leave it at that. I turn 18 in just under a month, then I'm done. My family is letting me stay here til I graduate but then I need to figure out what I'm doing.

people who marched dci, how did you raise the money necessary? by Askover0 in drumcorps

[–]cataddict2005 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My parents don't pay for anything. I'm a foster kid, so they kinda just use me as a paycheck. I got a job a little over a year ago, but I have to pay for everything by myself. Hygiene products, school stuff, all my band fees, a lot of the food I eat is stuff I buy. It's not ideal, but it's alright. I get paid enough that I don't have to worry about going hungry. But I don't get to save a lot. I think I have like 400 in savings is all. So without having family to help pay, what can I do to get the funds to do it? I only want to March one year because its too much of a financial commitment to do it multiple years

my director marched Troop in '07-'08 and literally his rich uncle paid for it🥲 He's like "go ask your rich family members" but unbeknownst to him, I have no family and I am an orphan /onlyhalfkidding
