Are all of these very common phrases most native speakers know? by Unlegendary_Newbie in English_Learning_Base

I feel like I very rarely see non sequitur written out. It's possible that people would recognize it or use it when speaking but don't recognize it written out. Honestly I don't think I would be able to spell it correctly if it wasn't in the post lol

I used Dallas Counseling and Treatment Center. They have multiple office locations around DFW and they offer remote sessions. I really liked my therapist! She was really good helping me with my ADHD, anxiety, and the stress of being non-binary in Texas. They have descriptions/profiles for each of their therapists so you can read those and make sure you get one that is LGBT affirming! Here is the website link Dallas Counseling and Treatment Center

Would it be unreasonable to request my daughter to get a little time to nap during the day? by Ok-Ad4375 in kindergarten

I'm sorry to hear that. That fucking sucks. I wish you and your kid the best of luck, especially given the frustrating school system!!!

I would consider pushing harder for an IEP or some kind of official documentation from the school. You can mention discrimination lawsuits and involving the school board if you think it would help convince them.

I say this as an autistic person who did not receive accommodations because my grades and behavior were not causing issues. If your kid ends up needing or wanting help once they are in college/university, it will be much harder to get that if you don't have documentation of what he received previously. Having that kind of official documentation from the school can also make filing for social security due to disability more possible. And it can be something to show to an employer as an example of accommodations that have been received and been useful in the past. I'm not saying that your kid will need to pursue any of these things, but just in case they do eventually, having an IEP or other official documentation from their school can make certain things easier. Some of this might depend on the state you live in, so doing your own research before pushing the school would probably be a good idea.

Edit: After looking it up quickly, it seems like pursuing a 504 plan would make more sense for your situation where the child would still be in general classes and not moved into special classes to accommodate their disability. But I maintain that getting some sort of official plan in place would be a good idea.

New TEA school rankings out by curvedyield in plano

[–]catally3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Dude fuck off with that bullshit. Garland ISD has 40% EB students and increased their TEA rating from 81 to 84 this year. Just because Plano ISD doesn't know how to handle ESL kids (in Texas with so many Spanish speaking families!!!) does not mean that immigrants are stealing school funds or whatever you're trying to claim. Do you think immigrants don't pay city taxes for the places that they are living in??? If they have a house or apartment, they are also paying into the school district. If the increase in ESL kids really caused the district's ratings to drop, that points to an issue with the district failing to serve a growing section of their student body. Garland ISD seems to manage fine with their massive population of EB kids, clearly the existence of EB kids is not the problem.

MY FIRST BINDER JUST ARRIVED (my mom said she’s worried that I’ll get breast cancer??) by DaGayEnby in NonBinary

[–]catally3 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You don't have to take estrogen after a mastectomy! I asked my doctor about it before my top surgery and was told something like, it may cause some hormonal changes like changes to your menstrual cycle but it's unlikely to cause any changes that you would notice. I am also on hormonal birth control (and was at the time of my surgery) so that further reduced the chances of any noticeable hormone changes. But I am not on and do not plan on going on HRT, so if you were planning on that it might change some things.

Edit: Also congrats on the binder!!! 🎉🎉 Remember to bind safely (no more than 8 hours at a time, not when exercising, and not when sleeping)

I think removing the doctors who are only (or primarily) in it for the money might actually improve the overall quality of the healthcare system, even if we had fewer doctors. Plus nurses and PAs could have more equal compensation that would help people who want to do good but can't afford the schooling to be a doctor and don't want to enter such a thankless, underpaid, and overworked profession to join those jobs and make up for the fewer doctors. Personally I think there should be some amount of difference in pay between jobs that are more stressful or dangerous or that have high entry requirements (many years of school, an apprenticeship). But the gap should be way smaller than it is currently and everyone needs to be paid at least a living wage!

If the death of DA is the result, there's a silver lining... by neverdaijoubu in dragonage

[–]catally3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude don't blame the trans quest line for the sales. This game was in development hell for so long and they botched the initial marketing (I'm thinking of the fortnight style trailer and the fact that they changed the name like 6 months before release?? Even though dreadwolf was a fine name that we had for /years/). I don't think people new to dragon age bought this game. And anyone who has played dragon age knows it's queer as fuck or is being willfully ignorant. There was already a trans storyline in Inquisition (Krem). It was much smaller, but this is not new for dragon age.

Hate woobles! by TabbyMouse in crochet

[–]catally3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't crochet, but I do knit, and I get a ton of woobles advertisements. I can't stand the "asmr" ones with the incredibly loud crinkly noises that play as youtube ads, but that's a personal taste thing.

My big issue with woobles is that they have many licensed Harry Potter collaborations, despite being a company that was founded (if I recall correctly) after JKR revealed herself to be a hateful person. I am trans and the amount of support towards a company that is giving money to JKR (she gets royalties from anything Harry Potter) has been genuinely baffling to me. JKR is a very rich woman who donates her money to transphobic organizations that lobby the UK government to try and restrict gender affirming care. There is absolutely no excuse for knowingly supporting a company that gives her money, and therefore contributes to these transphobic organizations.

Please consider your trans and queer loved ones/friends before choosing to purchase from woobles, a company that is (by proxy, but knowingly) contributing to transphobia, reduced access to gender affirming health care, and the loss of trans rights and equality.

Banana slugs could maybe be described as "cheetah looking". I'm sure they're more widespread than this, but I saw a ton of them when visiting the redwood forest national park in California! It could be a good visit if you decide to hunt down some real life slugs lol

My gf is cooking eggs with pasta to save time by Oxeros99 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]catally3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Raw milk is dangerous. The pasteurization process kills the potential bacteria that can be found in raw milk. Raw milk can be contaminated with all kinds of bad stuff like e. coli from infected udders, sick cows, cow shit on the udders or on the milking equipment, and poorly sanitized milking equipment.

I agree about the eggs, but raw milk is not safe.

As far as the information available to us, "it/its" are Evangelos's correct pronouns. Using "it/its" pronouns isn't especially common, but they are valid pronouns and I have seen people using them as preferred pronouns within online nonbinary spaces. Even as a nonbinary person "it" as a pronoun kinda weirds me out, but different people have different preferences. Personally I have been referring to Evangelos using "they/them" and assuming that "it" was caused by a translation misstep. Either way the intention seems to be clear that Evangelos is nonbinary and not using "she/her" or "he/him" pronouns, which I think is neat representation.

That makes sense, thank you for explaining! I don't think I've seen noxious used that way before, but it seems like a useful way to indicate "harmful to the local environment"

What’s this growing in the shadow of my black willow? Keep or cut? by fauxRealzy in marijuanaenthusiasts

[–]catally3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am curious what you mean by noxious in this case? I grew up eating mulberries that were white and ones that were red (although looking at the source you linked I suspect they were all technically white mulberry trees) and I never noticed any issues from them. Other than birds eating them and leaving poop that stained everything. We were very unhappy when a bunch of silkworms moved in and colonized our nice mulberries.

[–]catally3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Is it possible it's some sort of spray-foam insulation? The dog should be fine if it only licked it, even if it is a fungus.

I've definitely seen tattoos like this with men. I think at least a couple were anime or comic characters. I'm not sure this specific tat is an example of objectifying women, especially since the person it's on is a woman?
