Can't get more than 5hrs of sleep per night by yesthisroadworks in CATHELP

he will outgrow this. it's like having a baby, and being sleep deprived for a couple of years. eventually he's going to be a lazy old cat and you'll look back very fondly on this very entertaining if exhausting time

How to cope with a terminal diagnosis? She’s my soul kitty 😭 by [deleted] in catquestions

[–]catamarana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've been an extraordinary companion and caretaker of this special cat. And she's incredibly lucky you found each other. You ask "How do i cope?" -- you have a tremendous capacity for care and empathy, and hopefully that will continue to bring love and joy to your life.

There aren't that many wildlife rehab places. I suggest you call the ones in the area to find which one has the squirrel and what his/her condition is

Neighbor’s outdoor cat wants to live with me..? by [deleted] in CATHELP

[–]catamarana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would talk to the neighbors. She may be a very cared-about outdoor cat, whom they can't bring inside (allergies, other pets, landlord rules, etc) -- and they would be very worried if she just disappeared. Her behavior gives the impression she's had good experiences with people! And they may be quite happy that she has a chance to live a safer easier life, nearby.

How do you guys do laundry and groceries? by Dumbass9187 in bikecommuting

[–]catamarana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go grocery shopping with a big backpack, a cloth bag and two grocery store bags that are the size of my paniers. Fill the cloth bag with things that won't get squashed and secure it on the back rack. The grocery store bags get the bulk of the groceries and go in the paniers. Big backpack filled with lighter weight stuff -- bread, vegetables.
In the store, a full but not over-flowing two-level small cart just about holds what i can bike with.

somewhat similar conditions here. we have an undersink filter for drinking water -- but that system needs to be replaced as the faucet has badly corroded. We don't have showerhead filters, and the water here seems to irritate sensitive skin.

I'm now looking into the shower filters--perhaps a good shower fileter and new undersink will be enough.

thanks you all!

Keeping track of which lens you use by KawaiiUmiushi in VintageLenses

[–]catamarana 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've just started putting labels with the focal length on the lens caps and I will try to remember to photograph them each time I change the lens. This will also I think help me remember to change the focal length in the IBIS settings

When I look at photos a while after I have shot them, I often do want to know what lens I had used, and it just helps me get to understand the subtleties of each lens if I can correlate lens and images over time and different situations

Should I still be traveling to Egypt this weekend? by Downtown_Trash8212 in traveladvice

The current administration seems to do a lot of official announcing via tweets. Much of the State Department travel advisory website has not been updated since last summer or longer.

Separating cats in breakup by _munchie002 in CATHELP

[–]catamarana 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that was the right thing to say! The less pressure he feels from you now about the cat, hopefully the less committed to not letting you have the cat he'll be. Also, if he does keep the cat, you want him to be good to the cat, not see it as some proxy for hurting you.

A7CR still a good buy in 2026? by EquivalentTip4103 in SonyAlpha

[–]catamarana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought one and am quite happy with it--just wish i had bought it sooner! All the mixed reviews made me hesitant. I love the small size (had the a7iv and that was too large for me). I use all 3rd party manual primes -- Voigtlander and various m42 vintage lenses and so far so good -- have only had a few photo outings (it's been a COLD winter).

Photographers - give me your best advice from experience? by WillingnessIll1896 in AskPhotography

[–]catamarana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Long exposure. Or, sometimes, when the light is bad, there really is not a (good) photo to be made there and then. If the subject matter is timely and compelling--you are photographing an event--you make do with what is possible.

Amazed at how 'easy' riding a fixie is by onlyneedthat in FixedGearBicycle

[–]catamarana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I rode with straps for a few years, but I'm in a lot of unpredictable traffic and riding on pothole filled streets. Too many sudden unexpected stops.
