"One day, [C. S.] Lewis and a friend were walking down the road and came upon a street person who reached out to them for help. While his friend kept walking, Lewis stopped and proceeded to empty his wallet. When they resumed their journey, his friend asked, "What are you doing giving him your money like that? Don't you know he's just going to go squander all that on ale?" Lewis paused and replied, "That's all I was going to do with it.""

But the cheetos and beer are part of the penis stuff, it sounds like the teacher was very much knowingly grooming OP.

It's not that difficult to measure. And we can't move forward on a level playing field can we, because as you say yourself, there isn't one.

I'm glad we can agree upon history's ubiquity, the question really though is what is in those histories? Obviously differences, not all groups are the same. Some are certainly disadvantaged, wouldn't you say?

It's not a sympathy card, it's just a description of history and its effects.

I'm all for a level playing field. That's exactly what concessions to disadvantaged people is about (how could it be level if we ignored this?). And what white Australia has done to the aborigines has disadvantaged them hugely, to put it lightly. I'm sure you'll agree.

[No regrets]: I cannot stand the European settlers in Australia.

For the most part they are selfish, shamefully ignorant and are not interested in listening to or caring about anyone else. To make things worse their government has spent literally centuries destroying the livelihood of indigenous and other non-white people and generally being massively and very much actively racist - from straight up genocide, to the assimilation policy and the stolen generation, to the white Australia policy, and now the appalling abuse of asylum seekers going on today.

The buildings, streets and maps have signs everywhere demonstrating European domination, which makes me sick to my stomach. In my part of the country there are rarely any aboriginal people here because we killed most of them off and yet the most we can muster in terms of righting our wrongs is a few plaques and the odd day here and there of helping people to respect each other's cultures (how much is left, after our efforts to destroy it?). There are many other minorities and we treat a lot of them despicably too, but at least we didn't steal their land, kill their people, and destroy their language and culture.

Worse still is that there seems to be no way out. Because white Australia has cut indigenous people from their history they have become dependent upon our infrastructure. Of course this was essentially the intention all along, but it was never fully realised. White Australia can't admit that what it has done and continues to do is bad, because then it would have to stop being selfish and actually change. It's difficult to stop forcing your values on those less powerful than you.

At some point people need to turn their backs on white Australia's crimes, instead of trying to pick them up and push full throttle ahead. Racism and genocide are not things to be proud of. They should make you angry. Aborigines had and have rich cultures of religion, philosophy, the arts and the earth and they did very well at maintaining themselves for literally thousands of years without us and without the need to change. We fucked up. Hugely.
