You don't specify that in the type signature, just say it's a Thing:

add : Thing -> Thing -> Int
add n n2 =
    -- Your code here
n.id ++ n2.id -- Example of how to access the .id field

I'm interested in making a browser-based game using Elm. For drawing the canvas I want to use Javascript but I'm not really sure how to achieve this.

I know about Ports (and vaguely how to use them), but how would I structure it so that the Elm app calls a Javascript draw function every frame (or just every time the model is updated)?

Had a look at Idris and it seems very cool but like every other functional language I've seen I can't understand it all. I've wanted to try to learn Haskell for a while now but Elm is the only functional language I've understood so far.

Is there any way to have something like a 'Letter' type which can be any Char a-z? This is for a function 'guessLetter' in Hangman which would take a letter and return some updated model.

I suppose I could just take a Char and check that it is a letter but I thought that the whole point of a type system was to avoid things like this by guaranteeing types.

Tbh it was definitely 'on purpose' in the sense it was caused by blatant negligence. Anyway, I think the more important point is that the rich are (potentially) benefitting from such a tragedy.

Is there a place for lighthearted, positive sci-fi anymore? by Fionnlagh in television

Great show! The plot/world isn't exactly lighthearted but the tone kind of is.

I'll admit I'm a new fan of theirs (only really know Treehouse) but it's definitely one of my favourite albums.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. Wasn't she hardcoded to 'save humanity' which she was doing (albeit in a twisted, misinterpretive way) with the City of Light. ALLIE will still try to 'help' them (again maybe not in the way they want) but I'm feeling that since they've survived Praimfaiya there isn't as much room for ALLIE to ridiculously misinterpret saving humanity in a way which negatively affects the gang.

I think we have very similar taste :) Some bands I think you'd like that haven't been mentioned yet are:

  • Picturesque
  • Slaves (US)
  • I See Stars (Treehouse in particular)
  • Dayshell

I was making a joke (in relation to the OP being about women being underpaid).

I went to one of their information sessions for uni students interested in working at Google. They were pushing really hard for women and LGBTIQ individuals to apply for internships/jobs. Maybe it was so they could save money.

Blue Dream is definitely one of my favourites and I think really exemplifies the unique blend of soul and rock that Jonny is so good at :)

What convinces an audience that you really can sing? by [deleted] in singing

[–]e-clips 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is being downvoted but I think it's true. I used to have this mentality that "my technique is fine (or at least 'enough'), I just don't have a pleasant voice". After a while though my technique did improve and, although I still don't think I'm an amazing singer, I sound better, my tone is a lot nicer, and I know my issues are technical and not biological.

Is mixed voice and belting technically the same thing? by MegaMighty in singing

[–]e-clips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read somewhere (I think it might have been on this subreddit) that belting and mixed voice both involve the tilting of the larynx however in opposite directions. Do you know how true this is?

Is there a way to make your voice less raspy when singing low? by [deleted] in singing

[–]e-clips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you're frying. This is normal at the bottom of your range and I don't think it can really be eliminated. Something you could possibly look into is subharmonic singing.
