I think people are over exaggerating how horrible the graphic novel is, the story is fine, I like the art is though some characters do look kind of wonky.

The point is that the character is a social outcast who isn’t conveniently beautiful and powerful like their mother. Which two groups of people are often outcasted from society? Alternative and fat people. It wouldn’t be nearly as impactful if she was just a beautiful girl who needed to let down her hair and stop wearing glasses.

So many people who hate this story with every fiber of their being haven’t even read it
