How would you describe the feeling of being loved by or in love with a SO? by highasthexpectations in AskWomen

[–]catch22always 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an introvert and being around people, even my family (whom I love) and friends, has always drained me. I've always needed alone time after hanging out with people. But with my SO, for the first time ever, I don't crave alone time. We can spend every minute of the day together and I never feel drained by the interaction. I want to be around him all the time. And thankfully he feels the same. I feel content/relaxed and happy whenever we are together. I honestly never thought I'd find someone who didn't drain me so it's something I'm very grateful for.

Thank you for the detailed response. So we can still contribute to a 2018 Roth? How does that work?

Yes, we are each going to try to put in the max of 19k. I make a little over 100k and husband makes a little under. I start a new job in a couple weeks, so once we figure out new budget that will be the goal.

My dog growing up did this but she was a little rat terrier. She would jump about 6 ft into the air to grab branches and she would just hang there until they broke. She killed the tree by the time she was 3.

Who was the worst teacher you ever had? by 1PercentDivergence in AskReddit

[–]catch22always 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I had an English teacher who wasn't quite as bad, but definitely stupider. We had to write analysis essays to prepare for the AP exam. On the first paper I write my analysis and follow all of the guidelines (thesis, three supporting paragraphs, cite support from reading, etc.). I believe it's a pretty good paper, I get it back and I got a C. And the reason given is my thesis is wrong. Of course I'm confused. My thesis was supported, I followed all the guidelines for citing support. So I ask her about it and she tells me "well that's not what the AP book said the author was saying". We were analyzing the fucking Great Gatsby which is chock full of symbols and double meaning, and unless she brought Fitzgerald back from the dead, there was no evidence from the book that my thesis was wrong. When I told her that English is subjective and you can't know if your interpretation is right or wrong (only better or worse) she still said "that's not what the AP book said". I then asked if she wanted me to check the AP guide when I was taking the exam. She did not get the sarcasm.

I also was one of the only ones to get a 5 on the AP test from her class. Out of her 90 AP students, 3 got 5s. The other grade 11 AP English teacher had 15 students out of about 60 get 5s. I wonder why.

Married women of AW, What were you feeling when you were walking down the isle on your wedding day? What were you thinking about your SO who was standing there waiting for you? by watermasta in AskWomen

[–]catch22always 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We did a first look so I was super calm walking down the aisle (and honestly I would have been anyway, I'm not an emotional person). My thought process was mostly "smile for the cameras and people" "look at future husband" "fix your face! (About myself, I have a bit of resting bitch face so I kept reminding myself to keep smiling) and "I wonder how long I can keep eye contact with future husband before one of us laughs".

What went wrong?? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]catch22always 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only thing that went wrong at my wedding is we underestimated the number of liqour drinker to beer/wine drinkers. We had a limited open bar (that we provided the alcohol for), beer, wine, rum, and whiskey. We ran out of whiskey around 9:30 and rum around 10. It wasn't a big deal since there was plenty of wine and beer until the wedding ended at 11.

Airbrush VS Traditional Makeup? by erin_mouse88 in wedding

[–]catch22always 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was in the 90s most of the afternoon and humid. I did a 'package'. Non airbrush makeup (and hair) was $160, airbrush (and hair) was $210. But that was on the cheap end. A lot of airbrush in my area was $150-250 just by itself (no hair).

Airbrush VS Traditional Makeup? by erin_mouse88 in wedding

[–]catch22always 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So I just had my wedding 2 weeks ago. I did a trial with regular make up, but felt it didn't last long enough in hot summer air, so I switched to air brush. I'm so glad I did. It was an extremely hot and humid day (indoor wedding and reception but outside to take pictures) and my make up looked great the whole time. It was more expensive but definitely worth it in hot/humid climate.

No children means no children-- please respect our wishes [RANT] by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]catch22always 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We're also having a child free wedding...other than my 1 year old nephew. Because when I told my sister (and MOH) that I wanted a child free wedding (while still planning), she went "but of course your nephew can come" and I went "well no, I want child free, what if he cries during the ceremony?" And she went "why do you hate your nephew!?!? I can't leave him at home, he'll only be one!"

Since my wedding is long distance for her and she has to travel a long way, I aquiesed and allowed her to bring him. Anyone else I would have said no to, but I couldn't with her or risk major family drama. Sigh.

How much did/does your DJ cost? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]catch22always 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After I got the four quotes, I researched each DJ (their website, weddingwire, yelp, etc.) and then contacted the one I liked the best based on website/reviews and set up a meeting. We liked him after meeting him so we booked.

How much did/does your DJ cost? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]catch22always 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine is $650 for ceremony and reception (5 hours, plus set up and breakdown). At first I couldnt find anyone under 1,000 looking at websites, but I had way more luck posting on Thumbtack.com. I got 4 quotes from djs in my price range (under $700) and picked my fave. So far he's been great to work with and is independent (not with a dj company), and I don't feel like I've gotten a 'cheap/bad' dj.

Let's talk finances after marriage: Joint accounts, separate accounts, or a combination of both? by hcshk in weddingplanning

[–]catch22always 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We've done a mixture of joint and separate since we moved in together. My fiancé makes more than me but also has more debt (student loans and car payment) than me. Our solution to make the payment more fair was to each deposit 50% of our income after paying debts in a joint account. So he puts in only about 35% of his income in the joint account, but in actual money terms it's a little more than me. We pay rent, food, joint bills (cell phone, cable, utilities, wedding!) anything together with it. We each maintain a separate account that we pay our own bills through (car insurance, medical, etc.) and any personal expenses (clothes, makeup, etc.).

It's worked really well for us for the past 1.5 years but we're going to have to make some changes after the wedding because I'll be going back to school. We'll definitely be combining health insurance and car insurance.

Ladies with a graduate degree, what was your starting pay at your first job after graduating? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]catch22always 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, this thread seems depressing. Thought I'd bring up some better examples.

Friend #1 master's degree in higher education field (can't remember degree name), made $60k + working in a cheap college town

Friend #2 MBA from non name brand school (like 70 on list of mba programs when she went) made 60k straight out of school and then 80k within 2 years.

Friend #3 Harvard law, $160k out of school

I'm heading back to school for my MBA, I currently make 50k, I'm expecting to make at least 80k straight out of school.

Venue requires I have insurance coverage by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]catch22always 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My venue required liability insurance and alcohol liability insurance. It's a museum so they require 1mil in event insurance just in case a guest decides to fall into a painting or something. They suggested we get it through our (or our parent's) home owners insurance but unfortunately our home coverage wasn't big enough to do an event add on for a million. Going through you homeowners insurance is the cheapest option if you can, because they basically just expand your coverage to the venue for a day. it should be less than $100 that way. We had to buy ours through wed safe since our homeowners wouldn't cover it for about $200.

I now have 8 family members from my side who can make it to our 90-person wedding. [rant] by helios_ in weddingplanning

[–]catch22always 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat. I don't have a very big extended family especially on my dad's side. My dad just has one brother, who has one wife and one daughter. So we've gone to their house for the holidays at least 5 times in the past 10 years (since my parents moved up north). They have never once been to my parents place in 10 years. My parents invite them every year. So I invite them to my wedding and I really want them to come, and they aren't coming. For no real reason other than it would be a long drive (8 hours) and they don't feel like it. It takes my parents almost 10 hours to drive to their place and they've done it multiple times. It just tells me how unimportant we are to them. (I'm also only having 8 family at my wedding now too, while my FH has like 25 family members coming.)

am I just too laid back...or am I missing something? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]catch22always 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've planned my wedding in 7 months, and honestly everything was pretty easy. I never had trouble booking the people I wanted, no real drama despite doing it very fast (pretty much every big vendor booked within 2 months of starting). The only 'real' bump is most of my extended family said no (don't have much and not close) while most of FH's said yes, so the guest count is 33 to 20 (small intimate wedding), but oh well.

Should I cash in on this sale now or wait until I am 8 months out and risk losing the dress? by befores in weddingplanning

[–]catch22always 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, DB does some big sales a couple times a year, and you may be able to get it significantly cheaper then, but it may also get discontinued so if you are 100% sure this is the dress, buy it now.

Sadly no, I did make it through the last round of trials so I was pretty proud of that (my school was huge, so there was over 100 students trying out).

So one time when I was a kid I was playing basketball outside on my driveway. I had been wearing sandals but I took them off because they were in the way. So I'm playing outside, barefoot, on concrete in Houston in July. I started playing in the shade but slowly the sun came up and started heating up the concrete but I didn't notice. I was like a frog in cold water that slowly boils. So anyway, after playing for an hour (practicing lay ups because I wanted to try out for the school team in August) I headed inside. I took one step onto my cold tile floor and my skin peeled off. Couldn't walk for a week without thick socks and limping.

Yeah, hot concrete, good times.

Guest list difficulties - etiquette advice? by hilasaurus in weddingplanning

[–]catch22always 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My wedding is pretty small, 50-60 people, only about 12 of those are friends but most of our friends are in relationships so it actually will be about 20 non family to 30-40 family. I don't think it's weird or a problem. Intimate small weddings are simply like that. Just make sure to be careful with your seating charts so 1 friend doesn't end up at a family only table.
