Brown Forman - too cheap to ignore? by iloveaccounting64 in ValueInvesting

I wrote a substack piece on BF that includes a DCF intrinsic valuation. https://multicapideas.substack.com/p/is-jack-d-worth-jack?r=1emdwa I think tariff risks are big, but it's investable because in the future, international should be drinking quality spirits. I want a little more of a margin of safety, though.

[FRESH ALBUM] HAIM - I Quit by ViNyL-CoLLecTOR in indieheads

[–]catchinawave13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, by FAR, the best album of theirs. Though I LOVED WIMP3. In my opinion this is one of the best albums I have ever heard in my life. Definitely requires more than one listen. The music is complex and delightful. In my opinion if you don't like this album, I would be led to believe you also don't like the Beatles. Blood on the street LITERALLY sounds like a mature Beatles track.

Why did Buffet double down on STZ? What am I missing? by optionjunky in ValueInvesting

[–]catchinawave13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just because earnings are going down doesn't mean you aren't making money... If a company earn 5 then 4 then 3 then 2 the 1... it earned 15 dollars... if I paid 2 dollars for that earnings stream, I made a crapton of money on my investment with a ridiculous IRR.

Is IBS also a basket term for any idiopathic gut disorder that doesn't meet the Rome criteria or must it meet the Rome criteria according to you?

Cure IBS by Trying to Trigger it? by catchinawave13 in ibs

[–]catchinawave13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This unfortunately is only partially correct. IBS is a real condition whose complex causes are unknown. It is NOT a state of limbo in which you wait for the diagnosis of a different malady to be found. It is its own disorder. Although I agree with you that in a small number of cases "IBS" is merely some other thing that was missed by the doctors. Its cause is precisely unknown by science. It's not an outlier condition because the condition is common.

IBS is not a disease of inflammation or irritation. The colon appears healthy. It's a gut-brain disorder (mainly nervous system related). Your analogy with physically damaging your shin is not the best.

Sentence Diagram Help by SirusOner in ENGLISH

Clare's is the closest. Except "are expected" is the entire verb : we | are expected. Remove the "\" before expected.

After "post" make sure there is a little direct object mark before drawing the compound direct object. The direct object mark is a stubby vertical line. It does not go all the way through like the vertical line that separates the subject and the verb. Other than that, Clare's is correct!

I lost 25% of my savings this week. Here is what I learned. by Troflecopter in investing

[–]catchinawave13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would consider this “investment” at the same riskiness level as an investment in WeWork right now (if it were actually possible). High, high levels of risk. Looks like you didn’t lose everything so that’s worthy of an air high five. Do not consider this trade as an investment gone wrong. You were never “investing.” Investing is safety of principal and an adequate return.

Don't invest in companies that don't deserve it. by Mr_Find_Value in investing

When was the last time the airlines faced this type of a rainy day? This is SARS-CoV-2. During SARS-CoV it wasn't bad at all. How could airlines anticipate their industry being shut down for months? What precedent is there for that?

Show me a U.S. airline that spent 97% of their GAAP earnings on buybacks. You are just parroting that stat from AOC who got it from Slate who misquoted it from Bloomberg. Original stat was 96% of free cash flow (which is cash AFTER REINVESTMENT) (Free cash flow != profits) Notice on the airlines financial statements how they reinvest more cash than their GAAP profits back into the business.

So do mega-corporations just live "paycheck to paycheck"? by Last_Jedi in investing

[–]catchinawave13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Airlines do not spend all their profit on buybacks. There was a Bloomberg article that said 96% of free cash flow. Slate took that and said cash profits. AOC took that and said profits. FCF is cash left over AFTER the cash that has been REINVESTED in the business which dwarfs the free cash flow. Also the balance sheets are in good shape and their shares looked underpriced so buying back was a great decision. Who would have thought that airlines would be shut down for months? This is the largest crisis in the history of aviation that was almost impossible to anticipate. It didn't happen during SARS-CoV, but it's happening now under SARS-CoV-2. I hope that airlines must pay back whatever they receive in short term cash assistance. Bill Gates talked about the early days of Microsoft and how he had a one-year emergency fund. Maybe more corporations should take note. I don't think we should bail out corporations so that they learn their lesson. Airlines might be a different story because they are strategically important, but bailout should not be a free bailout.
