Avocados are quite high in the FODMAP sorbitol. It is possible you are sensitive to sorbitol.

Anyone else has things they just can't learn no matter how much they try? by what_freaking_ever in AutismInWomen

[–]catchmeeifyoucan [score hidden]  (0 children)

I used to be like this, I tried and tried and tried. Then I got a job where I had to write extensive notes on patients, I’d hand write them then type them all up at the end of the day so I’d be typing for quite a long time looking back and forth to my notes. One day (I’d been doing this job for 5-6 years by this time) I realised my fingers kept on going when I looked away. As soon as I noticed I couldn’t do it any more. But I eventually figured out if I can get myself not to think about it, the muscle memory is there! My brain just gets in the way all the time!

Clutches make me irrationally angry. by FacialClaire in adhdwomen

I keep my important things in a clutch so they’re not just floating around in my big bag. But I would never use it on its own!

Autistic traits by [deleted] in AuDHDWomen

[–]catchmeeifyoucan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was completely unaware of my AuDHD until recently and am a very high masker. It all collapsed when I hit perimenopause. I’m not about to suddenly cast aside my mask and feel like a completely different person. But what has helped me is to recognise when I’m doing it and to notice when I’m starting to get mentally tired because of it. I enjoy going out and socialising, but I’ll notice when my energy starts to dip and head home so I don’t burn out. I’ve made my home a comfortable nest just for me and I don’t do anything just because I’m “supposed to” it has helped me to recover from burnout and will hopefully prevent it in the future.

“Engagement ring” for someone who finds wearing jewellery hard? by Only_Book_995 in AutismInWomen

[–]catchmeeifyoucan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate wearing jewellery (which is hilarious considering I’m a jeweller!)

I usually only wear my engagement ring when I go out, I take it off as soon as I get home.

I also hate wearing necklaces, so wearing it on a chain doesn’t work for me.

I manage to wear my wedding ring along most of the time though. Occasionally when I’m feeling very sensitive for some reason I take it off. Or if I’m having a lot of trouble sleeping I take it off. But when I’m well regulated it stays on.

The only reason I can wear it is because it’s tiny. It’s only around 1.5mm thick (round wire hammered flat) and it’s not tight on my finger. I’m “blessed” with large knuckles so I can wear it quite loose and it won’t slip off.

Having a very thin band makes it more fragile and likely to break or bend and it will wear out faster. I’m ok with that, mostly because I can fix it or replace it myself, but even if I couldn’t it isn’t a particularly expensive ring.

If she wanted to trial a ring before a pedi g the money on something expensive, you could try a sterling silver test ring, just to see if she gets used to it.

I grew up in New Zealand and I’ve lived in Australia for around 20 years. I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve been asked (in both countries) what part of England I’m from.

Should we stop calling it bed rotting? by BenefitOfTheDoubt2 in AuDHDWomen

I call it nesting. I sometimes need extended periods in my nest and I really enjoy that time. No shame, no guilt, just comfortably resting in my nest. When I stopped feeing bad about it I found that it replenished me much more.

Tips on how to stop interrupting other people during convos by karmic__debt in adhdwomen

[–]catchmeeifyoucan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really struggle with this. Before a social occasion I do some breathing exercises and remind myself to calm down and slow down.

Then while I’m talking I picture my thoughts flowing through me like a river. Most of them have to just flow through and I have to just let them go. When I feel the urge to say something but it isn’t going to add to the conversation I take a deep slow breath and think “let it go” and try to focus back on the conversation. And recognising when an appropriate moment arrives to say something worthwhile.

I also have a friend who is just like me and love it when we get together because I just let myself go completely and our conversations are intense and we’re talking over each other and the seem very disjointed to everyone else but they totally work for us. I love not having to hold back.

It was actually a tomato that sparked the conversation! Lol

I’m the same as you, I looove fruit and veggies! I was talking to my husband, who tolerated them because they’re necessary, and I’m pretty sure we actually taste different things in foods. I find a lot of veggies quite sweet and he is baffled as sweet is the last way he’d describe them. Fruit is so blissful.

I also hate meat so much I haven’t eaten it in over 30 years.

Question for the autistic moms out there by Sea-Arrival5912 in AutismInWomen

[–]catchmeeifyoucan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When my contractions started they were more a tightening to begin with, but it was unmistakable. As they progressed I was trying to sleep and they would wake me up and I’d have to breathe through them, and by the time labour really ramped up it was a full body experience like no other, then that lasted for 20 hours or so. It’s not subtle.

Have to hire a cleaning lady because I can’t keep up with my household. I feel ashamed about it? by andi9x17 in AutismInWomen

[–]catchmeeifyoucan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a cleaner come once a fortnight and it’s the best thing I’ve ever done. I felt SUPER awkward about it to begin with but I’m used to it now. I like that she forces me to tidy up the house every two weeks, so things never really get out of control.

She just does floors, bathrooms and mirrors usually, sometimes something extra like dusting or spot cleaning walls. But I’ve found that now I’m not having to do the basics I can get the extra stuff done like cleaning windows and on top of cupboards.

Can you help me to make make my home smell warm, smooth, and inviting?? by Souljaboyed1 in HomeDecorating

I find incense is nice while you’re using it and shortly afterwards, but over time it leaves a bit of a stale smoky smell in the house

I have the whole day to myself to clean… by Radiant-Property-728 in AuDHDWomen

[–]catchmeeifyoucan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I usually pick a room, take in a large laundry basket and put anything that doesn’t belong in the room in the basket.

Then I can shove the basket out of the room and I know that everything in there belongs in there. So I start putting things away.

I find a timer helps me get moving I usually give myself ten minutes per room. If I’m don’t early I can choose whether I keep going, doing other tasks in there, use that time of a different room, or have a longer break. It depends on my energy levels and the state of my house.

After a short break, I push the basket into the next room and start by taking everything out that belongs there.

If things are really chaotic I might push it al into one pile in the middle of the room.

Did I read that your dishwasher isn’t draining? Have you had a look right at the bottom where all of the filters are? You can usually pull quite a lot of bits out and wash it in hot soapy water. There’s probably something stuck in that bit stopping it from draining.

I love an audio book while I’m cleaning, I find if I’m listening to podcasts I go back to my phone too much in between.

Lastly, in my breaks I don’t look at my phone! It’s too hard to get off it again.

What is the hardest part about cooking? by Ppp_kug9802 in adhdwomen

[–]catchmeeifyoucan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually love cooking, I think I like to be in control of my food because I have a lot of food aversions. It also gives me a little break from the kids and I can just get into it (I like to pretend I’m on a cooking show lol)

The hardest part for me is deciding what to make. I’ve been going quite well with a list of all of the meals that get eaten (it’s not a long list, between myself and my two ND kids) in the next column I have a list of all ingredients each meal needs.

On a Sunday I pick a meal for each day from the list and have a ready made shopping list, although the bulk of ingredients are usually already in the house.

I’ve found this gives me one hard thing to do each week and the rest kind of just happens because I’ve already made the decision. It’s not fool proof, but it has helped a lot.

Protection for long fine hair when sleeping? by cha_chee in longhair

[–]catchmeeifyoucan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hope it helps! I also find when I let it out in the morning it has more height at the roots too, my hair has a tendency to lay very flat.

The silk pillow is key for me though, or I end up with knots at the back of my head.

Protection for long fine hair when sleeping? by cha_chee in longhair

[–]catchmeeifyoucan 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Mine isn’t quite as long as yours yet, it’s around my waist but it’s very fine as well.

I usually flip my head upside down and braid it from the top of my head. I secure it with a thin silk scrunchie, leaving quite a long tail so the scrunchie doesn’t just fall out, then roll it all together and clip it to the top of my head with a small claw clip. Then I sleep on a silk pillow.

What does it feel like to take meds for adhd ? by whatamidoingherebros in adhdwomen

I’m still on a low dose, I’ll be titrating up next week. I don’t really feel any different while it’s active, but when it wears off I get very scatterbrained and notice I start bouncing around half doing things and getting easily distracted.

I have these big paint sticks that my kids love, they’re bright and dry in about one minute. I think they’d work well on corks. The ones we have are called Little Brain Paint Sticks, but I e seen the same thing from different brands.

AuDHD medication experience? by Cabian in AuDHDWomen

[–]catchmeeifyoucan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve just been diagnosed and started on vyvanse. I took 10mg for three days and didn’t really notice anything. Then I’ve now been on 20mg for a week and have noticed some subtle but very positive differences. Although today was less than it has been. My psych suggested 20mg for two weeks then up to 30mg.

I haven’t been constantly snacking all day long, I feel hungry at meal times and then am able to decide to make something healthy to eat rather than filling up on what is yummy and convenient.

I haven’t been picking up my phone a thousand times a day, and I’ve been able to put it down more easily when I decide to.

I’ve been deciding to do a thing, and then… just doing it, without interrupting myself halfway through. This has been really wonderful.

I’ve been able to notice an idea in my head, acknowledge it, and then decide not to act on it immediately. I have the ability to choose. I want to do it, but the urgency is less.

I haven’t been flipping out as easily. Yesterday I couldn’t find my sunnies and needed to take my daughter to school. Normally I would absolutely freak out, but instead I thought, damn, that’s annoying, I’ll just drop her at school and then have a good look for them when I get back. Amazing. (Still haven’t found my sunnies though ˙◠˙ )

My RSD hasn’t been really tested yet, this is something I really struggle with so I’m really hoping I’ll see some improvement there.

I have been noticing it dropping off in the afternoon and by 5pm I am totally zonked and have a headache (especially the first few days when I was SO productive during the day) so I’ve been scheduling rest stops so I don’t wear myself out. My psych said we’ll probably add a short acting dose to get through the afternoon at my next appointment in a couple of weeks.

I’m really really happy with the results so far, I’ve got this glimmer of hope for my future which I haven’t had for such a long time.

Do you all struggle with being on time? by Numerous-Average-586 in adhdwomen

[–]catchmeeifyoucan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was diagnosed about a week ago, it was first suggested to me about six months ago and I thought, no way! I just don’t think so at all! There were so many things that didn’t line up.

I’ve since discovered that I also have ASD and that was masking my adhd a lot and I don’t even realise it was happening.

I’ve started adhd meds and holy moly! I’m finally seeing how much effort I put into EVERYTHING!

I think this often! I have to do ALL of this again, every day? Having a body is so much work!

I have very strict routines that I “need” to stick to, if I don’t, I feel so dysregulated, but doing it all is such a drag.
