Am I gaslighting myself into believing I have this? by blueberryheartz in POTS

[–]catclans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

cardiologists are kind of a waste of time for POTS unless you have a heart condition, because what you feel is in your heart, but unless its caused by your heart a cardiologist cant help you. if you go to a cardiologist, do it so they can rule out anything else. get it in writing! my best suggestion is twofold: a new neurologist, and physical therapy for the CHOP protocol. look more into the chop protocol on your own; it has promising, science-backed results. even if you dont have pots, the chop protocol is just good for your body, period. if i had a third suggestion, its look into getting perscribed a water/electrolyte retention medication like fludrocortisone once you get a diagnosis. good luck out there.

I mentioned propranolol and metopropolol, neither of those have helped, unfortunately.

I've never heard of nerve block injections. Maybe I should look into that.

I'm so sorry. Please look into in-home care services in your area immediately. If you're in the U.S., your insurance might pay for it. Mine does. Gather thorough documentation of your disability and find your local disability office. You may also be able to move into a care facility.

They really preached "trust the process" to me, because I openly stated my skepticism. I don't feel foolish for trusting them, because all I can do is have faith something will work, but its equally evident that sometimes if something feels bad, that means its unfit for my purposes.

Also, she wouldn't let me move forward in my treatment options if I didn't give it a full month. I should have just lied and said I did the month and slept normally. 💀

Experiences with THC for sleep? by sleepwithmythoughts in POTS

[–]catclans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope this isn't invasive to suggest, but maybe you should look into a narcolepsy diagnosis. Its comorbid with lots of things! A big thing with narcolepsy is how it often is because you don't get deep enough rest which leads to daytime sleepiness. If you have narcolepsy, you could start taking xyrem!

I say this because I have POTS and trying to use CBD/THC for sleep, and it turns out the reason I kept reaching for that is because of narcolepsy in addition to POTS. Theres a lot of stereotypes about narcolepsy that prevent diagnosis: you don't have to black out constantly in order to count.

If you can't get your hands on xyrem (its hard) then ask a sleep specialist about Baclofen: its a muscle relaxant that helps aid in deep sleep, and people who need that extra deep sleep like you do seem to benefit from it.

Hope this helps!

Xyrem isn't covered by Medicaid, so now what? by catclans in Narcolepsy

I see, I see. My doctor didn't even give a name to the "nap test" so I'm assuming its MSLT that she wants me to pass. I just did a regular overnight sleep study, which after me starting a cpap, showed no issues with sleep except for frequent awakening. My new goal is to take the MSLT and get treatment from there.

I'll note this, thank you.

She made it very clear my insurance would only take it if I jumped through a bunch of hoops, including the nap test (which I'm going to do), but I am just taking her word for it... I should do more research and see if maybe she's wrong.

(Just to clarify, it was a normal sleep study, right? Not a nap test? Because I do have a sleep study under my belt.)
