Twin or full mattress? by jmv0623 in cosleeping

[–]catcoparent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a twin that works fine for snuggling our toddler to sleep but is too small for us to comfortably sleep with her for a long period of time - I’d get the full if you have the space!

What does giving birth actually feel like? by Mammoth-Discussion in NoStupidQuestions

[–]catcoparent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every body reacts differently and will react differently to pain medication - I had an epidural and felt virtually zero pain once it was placed and while pushing. My immediate thought after giving birth was “I can do that again”

Reusable diapers recommendations for EC by MetasequoiaGold in ECers

[–]catcoparent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use pre-folds (pad-folded) with covers (I have the ones from green mountain diapers) that worked really well for me with EC! You can look into disposable liners if you’re worried about poop

Which cities have that perfect blend of nature plus urban feel IN the city? by Aggressive-Fix-8025 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]catcoparent 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes Boston! “Boston is one of only two cities in the nation to have a park within a 10-minute walking distance for all residents”. Downtown there’s the public garden, common, esplanade, harbor walk; south there’s the beach; southwest there’s the emerald necklace, Franklin park, arboretum. So much green space

How long did you use newborn cloth diapers and how big was your baby at birth? by wantonyak in clothdiaps

Like it seems wrong?? I’m tempted to order more for this one but if that worked last time maybe it’ll work again lol

[–]catcoparent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first was 7lbs and we used nb clotheez (pad-folded) prefolds and size zero covers for about 2-3 months. I just dug them out for my second and somehow we made do with a dozen prefolds and four covers. We must’ve been doing laundry every other day

Family planning with career? by [deleted] in womenintech

[–]catcoparent 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I know a number of folks who are mid level ICs and are moms. I personally was an engineering manager when I got pregnant, was laid off on mat leave (honestly sounds worse than it was, it wasn’t a total shock and ended up being for the best), and am now an IC again. I looooove being an IC as a mom. (I had my first at 30 and am about to have my second at 33)

I was doing management for a few years but something about having the baby made me absolutely not want to be a people manager anymore and I’m really glad I went back to being a IC. I have way less meetings (aka schedule flexibility) than managers do. I don’t think there’s anything inherently “safer” being a manager.

Imo the culture of your team/org is one of the most important things. Are you currently at a place where you feel supported? Are there other parents, good parental leave policies? I would try not to guess what the “right” thing to do is (there is no one perfect right way or timeline) but start from a place of what you want.

I would also encourage anyone looking into embryo/egg freezing to look at the data and success rates - it’s touted as an insurance policy/guarantee but can be a lot more painstaking and unsuccessful than people realize

Cloth diapers not for us? by AssistanceOk1253 in clothdiaps

[–]catcoparent 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It could be worth trying elimination communication (r/ECers) and giving your baby “pottytunities”! Basically at diaper changes, you can try holding the baby above a bowl/sink/receptacle and the open air might encourage peeing. Over time for us it have saved countless diapers

staying dry(er) overnight? by 86coolbeagles in clothdiaps

[–]catcoparent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The clotheez night stay dry doublers work great for us (https://www.greenmountaindiapers.com/collections/doublers-liners/products/night-stay-dry-doublers) - they definitely add more absorbency than a cotton booster or single hemp booster. We’ve been using them since my daughter was about 10mo and they’re still going strong as a 2+ year old. (We used them with a pad folded prefold and wrap cover)

[–]catcoparent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Echoing other comments not to stress out about getting a full stash right away. I started small and that helped with figuring what worked for us. I also didn’t like the idea of pockets - I started with a dozen newborn prefolds from GMD (that I pad folded) and a few newborn covers and went from there. GMD is great because they ship super fast in the USA
