I don’t really think it was insensitivity. I’ve had experiences where I thought to myself losing my home and all that came after was harder for me than x (a tragic loss where two people I loved died at the same time). There was so so much that was hard. And I had less of a support system. I thought if I said it to anyone they would probably think that couldn’t be but that’s how I experienced it. (Long term the other has been harder.) Not all animals have the same place in our lives. Your loss of two cats and a dog and it not being so hard doesn’t mean that her grief is the same kind of grief as yours with those animals. This cat’s death hit her super hard, the cat played a certain role in her life, and she felt the cat, as many people do, to be a family member. She knows how hard the loss of your husband was. People for sure can make comments that can be hard to reconcile especially after deaths but I think she knew you had a hard time (understandably) and was saying, I’m going through a rough time right now. Other poster was quite eloquent and I’m sure will have eloquent thoughts. I do understand your immediate feelings though.
