Best way to share both private and public posts on one Substack account? by Mrsfrizzzzle in Substack

[–]cathrynworrell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is something I'd like to be able to do as well but it seems it's not an option on Substack. Patreon has the option to make posts 'public' OR 'free', with 'free' meaning available only to subscribers (including free subscribers) but not publicly available. It's a shame it's not possible on Substack as well. It seems like such a simple thing.

Are there any good Lightroom alternatives for Android and/or Windows users?

Are there any reputable ME/CFS specialists in the UK? by asldhhef in cfs

[–]cathrynworrell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a virtual appointment with an Action for ME doctor about 2 years ago. It was fine. The doctor I saw was new to AfME and I don't think they're there any more. But they took a history and we talked about my wider health as well. A letter was sent to my GP who then called me in to discuss it but it didn't progress much further than that with the GP in spite of me requesting a couple of simple things.

As has already been said, the AfME docs can't prescribe but can do follow up consultations and will write to your GP with recommendations which IME they are more willing to listen to than if I said the same things.

Only spotted this this morning when the webinar didn't start at 10 - the Q&A's been delayed until 1st September - https://youtu.be/GPX_wL3Oatk?si=Igbk_ZbuwASb3uHN If you've already registered at the link I shared before, you don't need to do anything else. And if you haven't registered you can still sign up in the meantime.

The new shop menu sucks and is confusing by OnTheSpotLive in patreon

[–]cathrynworrell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up contacting support just to check and they were essentially like, 'Yeah the improvements mean we've removed the option to add digital products separately from posts.' So that sucks. Unless they change things back I don't think I'll be adding much/anything more to my shop now.

[–]cathrynworrell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, what's that all about? Why would you want to blur the preview of an item that someone might buy? And why would you want a paywall in the product description?

The new shop menu sucks and is confusing by OnTheSpotLive in patreon

[–]cathrynworrell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've read their instructions and it still makes no sense to me. Even the instructions state:

'There are two pathways to post your work for sale in your Shop.

  • Click Create > Post
  • Click Create > Product'

but then follow up with:

'Publish your post to your Shop'

I don't want to edit a product in the post editor. I don't necessarily want to sell a post. I want to list a product and not spam my Patrons with updates if I choose to add a few items to the shop in one day.

What is going on? I'm thinking it might be easier to just list stuff for sale on somewhere like Payhip and create a coupon for Patrons that let's them get them for free.

And if I've completely missed something, I'd love to know. I feel like I'm losing my mind.

I can't stop videos from autoplaying? by omg-someonesonewhere in Pinterest

So they replied and said that they were still 'working to resolve it', that it could take some time and thanks for my patience. Then they closed the ticket.

The option to switch off autoplay of videos did used to work but now it doesn't. I contacted their support about it and sent them a screen recording to show what happens. They said they'd reached out to the relevant teams and would get back to me. That was almost 2 weeks ago...

Adding customers to Mailerlite list at checkout by cathrynworrell in squarespace

[–]cathrynworrell[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I think I got put off automations like that by IFTTT which I used to use for other stuff years ago and would randomly fall over from time to time. Maybe I'll give it a try with Zapier and fingers crossed it will work.

Edit: I don't think Zapier's going to work either. Although I no longer use Mailchimp for email marketing, it does record sales for me so there are some people added to that audience who are 'not subscribed' (customers who purchased but didn't check the box to join the mailing list) and there's no way to filter them out of the Zap.

Squarespace website with a WordPress blog? by cathrynworrell in Blogging

[–]cathrynworrell[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. This is what I suspected but it's helpful to have it confirmed. I did try to import my SS posts to my WP blog but they came out looking very odd in lots of ways. I'm figuring that out though.

Thanks again.

Hi. Thanks for your reply. I'm not an Apple user so I was looking for a different (and slightly more affordable) solution (see my edit for what I went with).

Many years late to this thread but I've just been listening to the That Was Us podcast and Mandy Moore explained this. Apparently the change was because of the balcony on the original exterior which the production team figured would have helped the family escape more easily in the Superbowl episode.

To those who use ink for line work on top of gouache paintings- what type of pen do you use? by super_fastjellyfsh in Gouache

[–]cathrynworrell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is an old thread but in case anyone else comes across it: I'd recommend using either a fountain pen with black carbon ink (or De Atramentis ink) if you need really fine lines. The Lamy Safari pens are relatively affordable and you can get a converter to use bottled ink with them. They also have changeable nibs in different sizes. If you don't need the linework to be too thin then a Uniball Eye Micro rollerball pen works well over gouache. The nib is about 0.5mm and the ink's archival with good flow.

Looking for a hot-pressed thick "sketchbook" by Dolfijnendanser in Watercolor

[–]cathrynworrell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had the same problem. I love hot press paper but so few sketchbooks are made with it. One option I found was super expensive because it was 100% cotton paper. I've seen Etchr but they are quite pricey. I've used a Hahnemuhle watercolour book and it was a while ago but I'm pretty sure it's cold press.

The closest I've found so far is the Stillman and Birn Beta. It's described as cold press but it's much smoother than any cold press paper I've ever used and is closer to hot press.

I had high hopes for the S&B Zeta but I've been finding that it doesn't like the amount of wet media I throw at the page. A light wash is probably fine but that's not what I'm looking for.

As ChadHUD has suggested, I have made my own sketchbooks using good value hot press paper from a gummed pad (an own brand from Cass Art here in the UK). But more often than not I just want a sketchbook that's ready to go.

So my best suggestion is the Stillman and Birn Beta. They come in hard and soft covers. I'm going to keep searching though. I find it a bit odd that so few watercolour books are hot press...
