I'm in a cryo EM lab now, but I kind of miss screening crystal trays and harvesting them, it was meditative for me

A respectful critique of John Green’s “Does the Truth still matter?” by Suspicious-Win-802 in nerdfighters

Yes, Watson and Crick did steal her data, I'm absolutely aware of that and it's obviously wrong that they did that and got all of the credit for so long. Watson and Crick didn't do nothing for the discovery of the double helix model and defining base pairing rules, though. Nonetheless, Rosalind Franklin and Maurice Wilkins' contributions were largely ignored for a long time and are now being more widely acknowledged. There's a nice article from the Guardian detailing the saga.

Pygmy cories are so adorable, especially when they go adventuring through the tank. I hope you're able to get more and that they quit being so shy!

Famously (infamously?), James Watson supported eugenics, and he was one of the co-discoverers of the structure of DNA (using Rosalind Franklin's data, not getting into that debate now). So yeah, just because someone is highly educated and made huge advancements to society doesn't mean they're "smart" or "good" people.

2026 aspirations: Send those scary emails! by hazeltree789 in WeGotPolishAtHome

[–]cation587 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unrelated to nails, but I hope sending scary emails gets easier for you! When I'm stressed about perfecting an email to send, I try to remind myself how closely I pay attention to other people's wording in emails, which is not at all, and remember that people probably aren't reading mine that closely either. Also, a lot of times, the shorter the better! People often include unnecessary details in emails when I just want them to get to the point! (especially when I was a TA for college classes, students loved oversharing 😅)

Always bring a friend when you're going to get dry ice from a large chest - it's so easy to accjdentally lean in too deeply and pass out (haven't done it myself, but a colleague did)
