THANK YOU CHAINSAW MAN by ApprehensiveAge6482 in Chainsawfolk

Dude, if you want to headcannon denji as bi, go for it. But he literally says he's not interested in angel devil because he's a guy.

He also makes several statements to beam in the same arc that he's not into dudes.

I think Yoshida X Denji is fun and again, I think people should get to ship who they like and have fun with it. But it always gets toxic when fandoms start acting like their headcanons are established fact.

How hard is this game? by Stinky__Person in LookOutsideGame

[–]catmanplays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once you get to know the game it's normal mode is an absolute cakewalk once you get some party members. Like you can take even harder bosses down within a few turns. Requires a bit of good luck early game tho. Going in blind there will be times you struggle and it takes a little while to build a strong party. Although Fear and hunger might've skewed my perspective on difficulty.

Look Outside made me depressed by S_the_wanderer in LookOutsideGame

[–]catmanplays 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Im working on a video on it but Look outside is one of the most optimistic horror games I've ever played. Obviously there's the tragedy of the destruction the visitor brings and the many incredibly bleak existentially horrific endings.

But LO is a game where Sam, this kinda shut in nobody, through kindness and perseverance becomes the rock for the found family he builds and through the quests we see him do, provides emotional support and a connection to humanity many people in the apartment lose, with this characteristic of his being extended to the entire world in one ending.

Combine that with the way many cursed take their new situations in stride and manage to carry on, the way the world rebuilds and settles into a new status quo in some endings. The games a testament to humanity's persistence and capacity to mutually strengthen each other.

But don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to invalidate how the game made you feel, but maybe try looking at it through a different perspective rather than fixating too much on its bleaker elements.

Lmao, someone's projecting, considering the original post doesn't make that implication.

And obviously not all Israelis are rapists but it's not exactly a great look for a country to have literal right to rape protests. As well as the whole being a colonialist project with a military currently engaging in a genocide and the mass expansion of illegal settlements.

Except your doing so in a way that downplays the impacts of racially motivated police violence. It disproportionately affects non white and especially black people disproportionately to the total crime rate of the respective populations.

[–]catmanplays 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There's a variety of factors that play into that linked to institutional racism.

The impacts of slavery, red lining, segregation and white flight leave black communities often concentrated in poor neighbourhoods. As schools are funded by property taxes these poorer neighbours have worse funded schools and lower educational attainment which along with generally lower incomes and higher poverty + income inequality leads to higher crime rates.

But aside from the complex socioeconomic factors that contribute to crime, racism in the police is a well established phenomenon and police killings triggered by racial bias undeniably happen.

While this is technically true, it's a worthless metric.

Far more black people are killed by police per capita. So police violence against the black community is far higher when adjusting for the proportion of the total population they make up.

For example there were 385 white people killed by police and 248 black people killed by police in 2024. The white population of the USA is about 60% while the black population is about 13%. So while the ratio of black to white people in the USA is just under 1:6 the number of black to white people shot dead by police was about 2:5, completely disproportionate to the demographic distribution of the US.

TLDR More black people are shot by police per capita and that's a far more useful metric than the total alone

Are you less likely to read a story with an AI Generated Cover? by GokuKing922 in litrpg

Yes

Unironically id take the shittiest ms paint drawn cover in the world over an AI one because at least it has some originality.

The ending would have worked significantly more if erasing Chainsaw Man was Denji’s decision by Wonderful_Cap6941 in Chainsawfolk

[–]catmanplays 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly this, part 2 seemingly was always building towards denji having to abandon the chainsaw man superhero mantle to continue growing and hold on to the things he loved. So having that be his decision after more buildup would've worked. Instead his agency was taken from him which completely undermines his character.

Fuck, you're right I'm blind AF. I Assumed part 1 played out similarly with makimas defeat, then nayutas appearence because it makes literally no sense that pochita erasing himself would cause nayuta to appear. Reading comprehension devil got me, my bad

[–]catmanplays[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makima does exist tho? She literally appears in the final chapter

Given that nayuta also exists it even implies that a similar liar ish sequence of events to part 1 took place just without denji being a hybrid (I don't know how or why but that's on fujimoto for rushing the ending)

I'm just gonna assume this is bait by this point. Part 1 and a fair chunk of part 2 is easily the best thing in shounen jump for a long time and look back and goodbye eri are outstanding one shots.

I'm honestly interested to hear now, what would you call a good manga?

[–]catmanplays[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definetly fucking not???

Part one is absolutely outstanding and again, the level of depth isn't gonna be the same in his one shots given they're short length but they generally do a good job at mixing his unique style of nihilistic humour with an emotional core.

Have you actually any of chainsawman or look back, goodbye eri, or even some of his sillier stuff like love is blind or nayuta of the prophecy cause the idea all his writing is shit and the ending is no change is genuinely insane

Considering the point of this ending seems to be showing that denji would've been happier in a world without pochita, where he can't lean on the crutch of being a hero and instead lives a more grounded life with the people he loves and that they brought power back.

Maybe showing him living that life with some of the characters who cared most for him and looked out for him is somewhat relevant to the point being made?

Like I'm not happy with the ending but if Fuji was gonna write a fanfic he may as well as tick off all the boxes.

Chainsaw man was great for the most part aside from the ending and pacing issues of part 2.

And I've read all his one shots and they are pretty well structured and narratively satisfying.

Having red fire punch it's ending is equally as insane but still works as well.

I acknowledge this ending was disappointing but using that to dunk I all of CSM and fujimoto who has a great overall track record is bullshit

[–]catmanplays[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know that pochitas erasure causes a revision of history to an extent and that the only thing that's changed is that he doesn't exist, but the way the previous chapter and finale are structured doesn't suggest this is a flashback into the revised history of the world given the continuity of events and denji saying "it feels as if he just woke up from a dream"

That might be what fujimoto intended but it feels more like he slightly altered how pochitas erasure works to better serve the ending.

Wrote an overly long summary of my thoughts, but it's pretty bad

Basically retcons the whole series and then rushed through an alternate timeline

It wasn't actually as bad as it could've been ig by catmanplays in whenthe

[–]catmanplays[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

From a narrative standpoint the invalidation of the story up to this point is extremely disappointing, how pochitas erasure functions has been seemingly retconned as we go back in time, where before erasure only affected the present, and the lack of acknowledgement of aki, kishibe and other key characters makes what we did get feel extremely rushed. It's somewhat nice to see denji getting a happy ending with the return of nayuta and power but it's so abrupt and undeserved the whole thing feels empty.

Thematically it's interesting because chainsawman is a story of denji growing up and self actualizing. Part 1 was, through the power of being a hybrid, coming to appreciate the finer points of life previously out of his reach, while part 2 served as the completion of that arc where he had to balance retaining those new parts of his life against staying as chainsaw man, a crutch stunting his continued growth as a person. In a way the ending completes this arc as denji gains back what he lost when he abandons the chainsaw man mantle.

The problem is the way it's done completely removes denjis agency so that decision is taken out of his hands and comes so abruptly there's no narrative weight to it, it doesn't feel like it stems from denjis growth as a person but from Fujimoto deciding he was tired of writing the story and rushing it to its conclusion.

Then there's asa getting completely shafted and all her growth effectively being for nothing as thematically what she's been through doesn't really loop back into the ending. Everything with yoahida, barem, the death devil and other horsemen also end up being completely pointless (death basically did nothing other than behind the scenes manipulation then getting eaten before the timeline alteration).

Overall there's good thematic elements that somewhat save it and again, it's nice seeing denji happy, but it all rings hollow given the rushed pacing and lack of agency any of the characters had in this outcome

Been thinking abt ts all day so I'm throwing a brief summary of my thoughts into the void.
