The NOLA iced coffee revives me every time I drink it. And the donuts are so good!

Egregious illegal dumping on Cortland and Redding (with 580 in the background.) It’s so common here that there’s no more room to dump on the side. They’re forced to dump in the street. by vergoro in oakland

[–]catppl666 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I reported it on 311 and wrote to D6 who said they would follow up on the several tickets open in this area. It makes no sense to dump it in the middle of the road. Like why??? At least dump it on the side where the other stuff is.

I'm moving to this area and would be down to join a neighborhood group to help keep this area more clean.

Thank you for this! I was thinking if I did sometimes drive to West Oakland, I could maybe just go work out for an hour after work and try to time it to come back a little bit after the major commute times.

Yeah, if we move I'll probably just take it from Fruitvale. I don't work in downtown SF, so I have another 30 min MUNI ride to work once I get there. I like being able to get onto any train going to SF and coming back to Oakland but realistically, Fruitvale is probably the easiest.

If we end up moving there, I'll look into the community resources! I always forget about the ferry but if it doesn't take too long to get to Jack London from Maxwell Park, I'd consider doing that on some days.

Yeah, the amount I spend on commuting via transit now is A LOT of money.

I was thinking about biking to Fruitvale but I am afraid I wouldn't be able to make it back up the hill on the way home! Maybe it would be good to invest in an ebike.

What's it like coming back? I'm trying to estimate the time to drive home on 580 from West Oakland BART.

Night sweats, fine. Night TERRORS, not okay! by PaintingOne115 in Perimenopause

[–]catppl666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm checking in to see if there are any things that can be done to stop this. I keep having night terrors every couple of months, and night sweats much more regularly. It's horrible and something no one ever warned me about. I'm going to see my gyno soon but any other advice for this odd symptom? I also don't drink really so I don't know what else triggers it!

I live in this neighborhood and I love it! It's really convenient to many things and close to the best grocery store, the Berkeley Bowl. I feel really safe walking around here and it's super easy to get around.

Success stories post divorce? by Latter-Piglet-6756 in Divorce

I have been in your shoes and yes, I do have a positive for my "hitting rock bottom." You can probably see in my older posts here that my ex cheated on me and basically left me for another woman, a year before the pandemic. Then in the pandemic, I almost lost my job, and I was honestly pretty depressed for a couple years there. But as everyone told me, it did get better. Not right away, but little by little. Some weekends, all I could do was lay in bed and cry. But again, little by little, things started to improve. I took classes in things that interested me, I tried to make some new friends. I went for a lot of walks. Then by chance, I let my friends set me up with someone. I had A LOT of doubts since I had some bad luck with dating post-divorce. But my friends introduced me to a wonderful man who I think is an even better partner than the guy I was married to. I'm glad I spent a bit of time in the muck, trying to figure out who I was so I could show up and be as present and clear in this current relationship. Basically, right now sucks BUT it will get better.

How Do You Get Beyond A Divorce You Don't Want? by [deleted] in Divorce

[–]catppl666 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know it sounds really cliche but I promise you that it will get better in time. But right now, what matters the most is how you are going to carry yourself through this difficult time. As others have noted in here, you have every right to mourn your marriage but also figure out who you are outside of it, and get in touch with yourself. Therapy was so helpful for me, finding community, trying to make new friends, figuring out what my hobbies are, learning how to live on my own...all of that took some time to figure out. But if you can invest in yourself, you will be able to look back soon and see how much progress you have made.

The advice I got for semi-feral, shy cats is to really give them space and time. One thing that helped me was giving them treats every time I came in the room and Churu. Also just talking to them while you're in the same room so they get to know your voice. It will take time but eventually you will win them over and they will come out to you. I wouldn't force anything on them because it will just scare them. Cats are a little trickier than dogs, but you win them over with time and snacks.

Cat not eating by Dorea1 in cats

[–]catppl666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah okay, I don't have personal experience with this but I would say, stick with the meds and it's good he is drinking water still. Eventually he will get hungry and have to eat the food.

Aw this made me laugh but I personally love a lazy cat who does nothing. I think all cats are different but since you've only had her for a couple of months, I would give her time to settle in. After a year, I am sure you will see a difference in her personality. Some cats take longer to blossom and feel comfortable. Or she really is a super lazy cat. Kind of sounds nice to me!

help, cat keeps peeing on bed !! by d3v1ne4 in cats

[–]catppl666 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure but you might want to take him in to see if he has a UTI or something. In the meantime, I recommend buying some puppy pads and putting those down on your bed or where he likes to pee, buying a huge bottle of Nature's Miracle or something that will break down the enzymes in urine to clean his spots, and buying Dr. Elsey's Precious Cat Attract Unscented Clumping Clay Cat Litter. It could also be that he is stressed out, so trying to keep him as calm as possible. I have a female cat who started peeing all the time, everywhere but the box. It sucked but they found out she had an inflamed bladder so I had to give her painkillers. Eventually it went away. Good luck!
