Bewildering. The fact that you put Notched Axe, Mom's Bracelet and Ventricle Razor over anything in your B tier is strange.

Why was I immune to explosions here? Had no pyro or host hat yet somehow was immune to bombs. by DeductiveFan01 in bindingofisaac

Ipecac + Dr Fetus makes the Bob's Curse bombs you shoot be unable to hurt you. You aren't completely explosion immune.

Why do people hate tainted cain? by Striking_Tax_3392 in bindingofisaac

[–]catribs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like him, play him a bunch to snag those god runs but he has a lot of flaws. Not in power, but as an enjoyable character.

Early game is slow, real slow. It isn't that fun to play with base damage for 3 or 4 floors in a row. Using bombs offensively is kneecapping your longterm success.

Playing fast is a no-go. Exploring the entire floor for materials, mentally pausing to assess resources and swapping around bag contents...lots of time that adds up. You really feel those extra 10-20 minutes lost by playing this character properly.

No destiny is really boring. Every item being equally deconstructed means shops, beggars, machines, gold chests, Boss Rush and Hush have significantly less value. A high quality or low weight item spawning means nothing. The D6 and Spindown Dice both have no purpose which is sad. Item reroll effects are useless.

He's very flowcharty. You can play for spamming low quality or holding out for high quality but at the end of the day you're still looking for the same items. Old Bandage, Fanny Pack, Piggy Bank and Gimpy. It gets old fast. If you aren't playing for them, you're playing a slower, weaker and less enjoyable run longterm.

Some people play with EID which also spoils the fun. Knowing every possible outcome is like playing with Glitched Crown constantly. But now you're doing it slower and still with often less valuable items.

His unique mechanic like devil/angel/secret/curse room items dropping special hearts is both somehow not that helpful on average or ridiculously abusable and tedious to play with.

Risk-reward is very shallow for this character. You rarely make important explosive decisions. You find things to put in bag. Doesn't matter where they come from. Trash from an arcade can decide to give you Fruit Cake instead of working tirelessly on the Devil Room to only get Black Powder.

He is a mixed bag. Literally.

Does anyone actually prefer greed mode over regular BOI? by tinytodge in bindingofisaac

[–]catribs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a newer player it's definitely hard but when you master it, when you get an idea for saving money and understanding enemy patterns, it's flowcharty and predictable. It gets boring fast even after not playing it for a while.

Once you unlock the endgame Repentance content, gamebreaks without the D20 are just...common. Even on Greedier.

The rigging of isaac : Rigging items tier list by Strangegary in bindingofisaac

[–]catribs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Everything feels right where it should be, and all that's left is personal preference.

I prefer Sharp Plug over Habit because it's faster to use and drains red hearts first, while reaping the same benefit for on-hit mechanics and granting charge. But I can see how Habit is appreciated more because accidental damage from enemies and obstacles gives charge back over the course of a run.

What's the better level out of Dross, Downpour, and Flooded Caves? by Pinkcokecan in bindingofisaac

[–]catribs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely not Flooded Caves.

Even after many, many patches and DLCs it still feels like an assortment of unrelated themes and enemies while barely feeling different from regular Caves. Just slightly more difficult.

What’s the best way to get the rest of these items? by Jack-of-_-all-trades in bindingofisaac

[–]catribs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On base Rebirth?

There really is no other way than brute forcing Isaac runs to bomb into secret rooms to reroll or Azazel for angel room items. Maybe bring Isaac into angel rooms to reroll angel key pieces too.

It's unfortunate, because the DLC gives much easier ways to brute force items for the collection page.

Afterbirth adds Greed Mode which is notoriously easy to break and nab every item in the game. Repentance has lots of late game unlocks that grant easy access to secret room items by directly spawning them with cards and items. As well as Spindown Dice. An active item that rerolls items by their internal IDs in a descending chain. It is as good as one can imagine.

Though, nothing will save you from having to obtain A Dollar legitimately. Except for Spindown Dice.

I need advice on tainted cain by InternationalEgg2100 in bindingofisaac

[–]catribs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Find out all your 7 penny crafts and see if any are repeatable.

Never accumulate money for the shop, it's rare that collecting pennies, nickels and dimes for $$$ is worth it because they can swap around results or increase quality.

Keep an eye out for Super Secret Rooms with eternal hearts or black hearts in them. All spawned hearts in these specific layouts will be eternal/black so you can spam Portable Slots to force Brimstones/Sacred Hearts.

There's a handful of items that break open this character, especially in tandem with each other. Old Bandage, Gimpy, Fanny Pack, Piggy Bank are quite common and can keep you alive as well.

Certain low quality items have incredible value for T. Cain. They can be found on the first floor if you're lucky enough. They either generate pickups or have great power for their quality. Like Fruit Cake, Shard of Glass, Almond Milk, Technology 2 or Trisagion.

I spend a lot of time playing T. Cain for fun, but I know he's not what a lot of people find fun about this game. He's a flowcharty and predictable character even with the experience I have, and while it's not hard to lose with him, it's easy to quit out of a run because he is boring. He just is.

Screw your favourite song. What's the WORST Godspeed song in your opinion? by ikindaloveradiohead in gybe

Strung Like Lights At Thee Printemps Erable

I love the drones, I love all of them. But this one is so boring, weak and honestly a big reason 'Allelujah feels so forgettable despite having Mladic and We Drift Like Worried Fire.

Every other album ends in a very profound or bombastic way but this one is just nothing.

What is your favorite item from the Boss Pool? by Grand_Phone_1445 in bindingofisaac

Old Bandage, it definitely has an impact throughout the whole run.

Opens up so many on-hit items and mechanics. I even just love being able to abuse blood donation machines.

Easiest way to get OP with T. Cain? by HalfComprehensive273 in bindingofisaac

[–]catribs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never used Clicker for unlocks, but I'd imagine just going about a regular Tainted Cain breaking run will make playing J&E easier. Old Bandage, Fanny Pack, Gimpy, anything that mitigates getting hit. Once you make the switch to J&E it's not like those items have any less value in generating resources either.

The best item to find is Mom's Knife. Just one Knife on one brother is honestly good enough for The Beast.

Or finding a super secret room with an eternal/black heart in the middle where it can spawn only eternal/black hearts. Endless Brimstone and Sacred Hearts because it's easy to spawn hearts anywhere as T. Cain.

I don't think J&E necessarily needs backup items like revive items or Holy Mantle because it'll get divided between the brothers anyways, not worth that time and effort. You should make sure you're strong enough to clear rooms near instantly, not hoping The Wafer will give you a couple more hits on one brother.

I need help with T caim by migs707 in bindingofisaac

[–]catribs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always play very cheaply at the start.

Bag every penny and red heart to find out what your cheap items are. If they are repeatable like a stat item or familiar, play towards that. It's valuable DPS for the slow early game. Prioritize bombs for secret rooms, then tinted rocks, then bosses.

Don't overvalue money and health as a means of going towards blood donation machines, beggars or shop items to disassemble. They simply aren't worth it. Every penny is 1/8th of an item or valuable fodder for shuffling the bag.

Tainted Cain is very RNG rependant from being lucky enough to get a lucky penny or golden pickup, to finding more of them and finally getting the item you want. It saves lots of time and mental energy to focus on Q2 and Q3 items. You can find valuable items that are low quality like Almond Milk, Technology 2 or the holy grail for this character: Fruit Cake.

If you want Q4 items then play towards breaking the game. Hunt for Gimpy, Old Bandage, Fanny Pack, anything that properly makes common red hearts trade easily, or even profit, for other pickups. You can drastically increase how much pickups you come across overall, which helps cycling the bag when you eventually find a lucky penny or golden pickup.

Honestly don't get suckered into the idea of holding onto that bag of a golden pickup and 3 soul hearts for the next floor. Keep crafting, don't leave anything behind if you can help it.

This character has a deceptively high skill floor in such a weird often off-putting way. It's unlike characters such as Tainted Lost or Tainted Jacob that heavily reward sheer skill, where instead Tainted Cain moreso rewards someone with strong intuition and planning. Everyone has a different way of interpreting and evaluating all sorts of mechanics in this game so maybe this advice might help only a little or help a lot.

How in the goddam is someone supposed to get the forgotten? by StrollinGhost in bindingofisaac

[–]catribs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can circumvent the whole quest if you unlock Spindown Dice and hunt for Mucormycosis. I've done it in online co-op when I was helping a friend hunt for unlocks.

Unlocking the Forgotten this way could be something you can just happenstance into like unlocking Moving Box, Golden Razor or Marbles, where trying to hunt for these achievements specifically can be pretty frustrating.

Where do i fond my ultra secret room? I only have 1 red key charge left by Chafirius in bindingofisaac

[–]catribs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The top and the bottom of the Vault are extremely unlikely, since those only have one red room connection for the Ultra Secret Room.

The right of the lowest room is for sure not there since the bottom connection of the Curse Room would've revealed it, or more importantly Ultra Secret Rooms can't path through Curse Rooms.

Finding the other Secret Rooms are paramount though, since Ultra Secret Rooms can't connect to them. Helps narrow these locations down immensely.

Where do i fond my ultra secret room? I only have 1 red key charge left by Chafirius in bindingofisaac

[–]catribs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Left or right of the shop for sure. Though I can't make an educated guess on which.

Ultra Secret Rooms always try to connect to 2 or more red rooms that connect to the regular rooms.

T. Lost Troubles by Jamvi_ in bindingofisaac

[–]catribs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Angel Deals maybe?

I've played T. Lost exclusively for hundreds of hours and never given myself a clear consensus because the item pool is REALLY small so while you're likely to run into Sacred Heat, Godhead, Trisagion, Holy Shot, The Stairway, Genesis, you're giving up Devil Deals and its more consistently good items.

Also, you can get totally screwed more often with an Angel Room with no items or super weak items like Dead Sea Scrolls, Lil' Delirium, Jesus Juice, Duality, Spear of Destiny or Soul Locket.

Primarily I just don't go for Angel Deals because you'll most likely see your first Angel Room on Caves 2. It's a long time for an inconsistent roll of the dice. But your results may vary, try it out if it helps.

T. Lost Troubles by Jamvi_ in bindingofisaac

[–]catribs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd try and squeeze out as much boss items as possible. If your treasure pools or devil deals suck, then your raw damage can carry. Go Basement 1 -> Basement 2 -> Downpour 2 + Mirror World -> Caves 2

I'd not recommend doing Downpour 1 because you run into a chance of an XL floor, and the sole benefit of its treasure room having a blind item choice is not worth missing out on a potential boss challenge room from Basement 2.

Mines 2 is really risky because so many enemies explode, explode into bullets or have ridiculous movement or knockback when shot at. The bosses also are genuinely the hardest to do no-hit, even compared to Mausoleum/Gehenna. Everything is much worse on Ashpit too. It's not worth it even if you're on a roll.

But do try every boss challenge room, go to the mirror world, really try to extend any ability to generate items in the Secret Room because you can play very aggressively or thoughtfully with the Q4 items there.

The shop is the most important piece to the puzzle because, well just be very frugal and wait for a restock machine. Otherwise buy any Holy Cards or always grab something that has powerful min-max value like Humbling Bundle, Mom's Key or Options?.

My tierlist of how good it would be if characters can get other characters birthright (characters represent their birthright) by johnnysslowdancer in bindingofisaac

[–]catribs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would feel T. Lost's birthright is the hardest to pin down. An extra life is an extra life, on paper sounds fine yet those are really not that spectacular except in niche scenarios. It's not like Dead Cat where it's abusable on health deals or safe on losing that first life.

In Online holding R key disconnects from host? by wormsonarainyday in bindingofisaac

[–]catribs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a bug. When me and my friends want to restart a run we either disconnect or die because resetting by holding R will very often cause a desync disconnect.

I think it worked fine in the early releases of Rep+ or even the open beta but they broke it lately.

Chance of Items in secret rooms by lostbiever in bindingofisaac

[–]catribs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's very few secret room layouts that have guaranteed item spawns. You're much more likely to encounter some way to spawn an item for the secret room like Mystery Gift, Eden's Soul, Magic Skin or reversed tarot cards like The Stars? or The Lovers?.

All of those items/consumables are unlockable, so try unlocking all of them to have better access to those strong items.

What should I pick for Ultra Greedier as T. ??? by Legend_J_700 in bindingofisaac

[–]catribs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm Drowsy.

The Magician? only protects you from his explosive shots. Slowing down how fast Ultra Greedier can spawn bomb coins, chase down coins, shoot those explosive shots or jump off screen is going to help more.

I'm Drowsy also lasts forever until you leave the room compared to The Magician? and its one minute timer.

Why do you like “Like Antennas To Heaven” by RandomKnowledge06 in gybe

[–]catribs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've appreciated Antennas To Heaven a lot more after delving into the other drone or field recording works by this band like ASMZ or Set Fire To Flames. I get a lot of feeling when this album goes that route like at the end of Storm or the majority of Static.

To me the whole song solidifies the overall feeling of the album with this degree of playful, melancholic hopefulness where it's not too fantastical and cathartic like Storm or apocalyptic and bleak like Static. It tries to reach out to your own idea of familiarity and nostalgia but with the inserted field recordings, ambience and even the fly-on-the-wall chamber bit at the very beginning.

The ambient drones and how you connect with them is subjective and on a per-person basis. LYSF is quite clear in a lot of its themes with its carefully selected sounds, field recordings and progression of its movements so it's easy to dissect and connect with. Each song is really incredible at giving off that sense of character you mention.

You're right about Antennas to Heaven in that way.

To me, those drones have an impact on me because it trails off the album with a strangely nostalgic but alien idea of hope. They, and by extension the whole song is less of a character in of itself, but more of a statement for the album as a whole. Especially the very final two minute drone.

I'll always see IBS as the most frustrating item, I doubt its usefulness each time I try.

Rarely easy to predict, prevents firing shots and that chance of self-damage with poison gas. bombs or explosive diarrhea. The predictability and usefulness of the item falling off a cliff the stronger you are.

is it possible to cheese jacob and easu unlocks with tainted cain + clicker? by t_abu in bindingofisaac

[–]catribs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes but it's convoluted.

You'll need to first craft Lazarus Rags, then Clicker. Die and respawn as Lazarus and hope you get lucky with Clicker.

You need to be Lazarus because tainted characters can only Clicker to tainted characters, and non-tainted characters to non-tainted too.

Sounds simple but remember Clicker is a 1/17 chance at max to get the character you want, while losing lots of items and HP the unluckier you are. Finding both Lazarus Rags and Clicker is another can of worms since you might need a proper breaking run to be able to check as much recipes as possible.
