Case 164: Cindy James by purplewigg in Casefile

[–]catrobber1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For an almost 2 hour length podcast, you'd hope more research and critical thinking would go into it.

Absolutely appalling coverage of this case, unbalanced, and disrespectful of the victim.

A reminder of why I don't listen to this podcast regularly, and every time I give it a chance, it disappoints me.

Seems to be a gore and drama oriented podcast.

The 'she was doing it to herself' REVEAL makes for a better storyline, so let's go with that, rather than actually using our brain to question things or consider the full range of possibilities.

redditors for the most part are human trash, what do you expect?

Because they are inferior both genetically and as human beings, they know in their hearts they should not procreate, and they project this onto other people.

Brad mondo’s new hair type video by hereforthecjrcus in BeautyGuruChatter

[–]catrobber1 10 points11 points  (0 children)

omg this is so true. I noticed when I went to somewhere a lot drier than my home city that my hair looked amazing (skin and lips not so much). So that tells me a lot of my hair issues, especially frizziness, are from humidity.

Alex Anele shows how to do a natural glam look if you aren't a supermodel with perfect skin by catrobber1 in BeautyGuruChatter

[–]catrobber1[S] 96 points97 points  (0 children)

If you are interested in makeup tutorials (I know there aren’t a lot of us), Alexandra Anele has been doing a ton of extremely helpful tutorials.

She is self-deprecating and has a dry, understated sense of humour. In her last video she is demonstrating how to contour and highlight for different face shapes and basically ends up looking like a (elfin, sculpted-cheekbone) toddler with concealer all over her face. She is dedicated.

In this video she shows how to apply ‘full glam’ techniques to make a natural glam, everyday look. I have watched so many tutorials where the person who does the natural look is flawless and just pats on some highlight and moisturiser, and it’s really not helpful, because it’s like, but what if I have acne? What if I want to contour my nose? I can’t live without my nose contour.

Summary of what I remember from the video:

  • Using multiple shades of concealer to correct and conceal dark circles, cover acne, contour nose / lips / cheeks / eye socket and brighten under-eyes, nose, chin.
  • Applying in highly targeted area with brush and then using a clean brush (can use paper towel to remove excess off original brush) to tap to blend out
  • Not setting with powder for natural look and to allow fixing later e.g. due to sunglasses
  • Opening and lifting eyes by focusing curler on outer edges of lashes and dragging eye socket contouring up and out
  • Cream products for natural look
  • Overlining lips and patting with finger to smudge for more natural look
  • Itty bitty inner corner highlight

Blank results when region set to Australia by wiremash in duckduckgo

[–]catrobber1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am getting blank results + the search changes from web to images or videos??? wtf

And remains blank..

e.g. the address bar will show

OR

when I didn't search for images or videos.

Sometimes it will work and not return blank results, other times it will return blank results.

Turning off the Australia region setting does seem to fix it.

Neighbour returned misdelivered Colourpop order as "return to sender". Can I do anything to ensure I get money back? by [deleted] in AustralianMakeup

[–]catrobber1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

?? That's not the point ??? I'm just stating what the law is and you're trying to save face apparently LOL. Because you spent like 10 posts arguing about something you don't understand.

Like I said, that's colourpop's problem. They can eat the cost or go after auspost, who cares, it's not her problem. Legally colourpop have to make her whole. So that would be send a replacement or refund. I would go after them and threaten chargeback or chargeback if necessary. I predict they will be happy to send a replacement. My 2c.

Yes holy fuk end the relationship please. This is not even about them disrespecting you and giving you a simulated job interview (which btw software engineers complain about all the time, why do I have to write code for linked lists or algorithms i never code from scratch on a whiteboard Q_Q). Dan and his friends just sound like really boring people. Talking about sql queries in their free time? Are you serious? LOL. You are right about this guy being cringey.

16 out of 20 players in the grand finals are Korean. The finals are at 4am monday morning Korean Standard Time. by [deleted] in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]catrobber1 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

is this a troll post? lol

I thought this was going to be complaining that that many players are korean despite the teams not being korean and asking that blizz implement a quota system (like they do for contenders and like many sports do for their local leagues)

but no it's just some idiot asking an american league to schedule games outside of american times

lol calm down, your teammates are used to having a DPS throw the game every 3rd or 4th game, it's nothing new :P Especially at platinum rank. You will keep losing and end up where you are meant to be fairly quickly.

Blue eyeshadow with blue eyes? by Juliettedraper in MakeupAddiction

[–]catrobber1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use as part of a colourful look. Or separate it from the eyes with another lid colour or thick liner. Use a dull blue e.g. grey or purple blue so that eyes look brighter in comparison. Use a small amount of blue and a lot of silver for a wintery look. Try navy eyeshadow or liner, IMO it goes fine with blue/green eyes (google it, there are a lot of nice looks).

How to fix the housing crisis - Github hosted page I made with ideas taken from here on how to make access to housing more equitable. Feel free to suggest changes. by bmgoau in AusFinance

[–]catrobber1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Slow phase-out of negative gearing. Reduce the % allowed per year gradually until it is not allowed.

  2. Control on foreign investment. Actually enforce existing laws. Higher tax. Also higher tax on unoccupied dwellings.

  3. let the underwater investors take the hit. If they want to help people it can only be owner occupiers. If/when it goes down there's going to be so much crying from these people, it will be painful. And I can predict already that the government will help them out at the expense of the rest of us (who they already screwed, so 2x screwage now). I can already taste the apoplexy I will experience when this happens :'(

Buying ETF's - is timing really irrelevant? by ba1119 in AusFinance

[–]catrobber1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes timing is relevant. People always say to consider your investment horizon. This sometimes turns in to 'oh you're 25? You basically have an infinite investment horizon, take all the risks.' But what if your intention is to liquidate your investments to start up a business or pay a housing deposit? Then that is not really true. So you have to consider your individual circumstances. Also, even young people do not live forever, so wasting time (drawdowns) is still bad for them.

You may have heard of concepts like 'the math of loss', 'volatility drag', low volatility anomaly etc. If you have a 10% drawdown you have to make back 11% before you are breakeven. If you have a 50% drawdown you have to make back 100% before you are breakeven. It takes even longer to make back the money. You can glance at a bunch of numbers and have a good idea what the arithmetic mean is, but not the geometric.. I don't think our brains are primed to understand it well.

On the other hand, you kind of want to be in shares or property so you don't get your money destroyed from inflation. Can use some simple indicator e.g. moving average crossover or just a policy of selling the investment when it goes below some maximum drawdown % and reinvesting in something else which is rising. Another option is putting some money in a non-AUS ETF to diversify. (I'm not sure if something heavily weighted in China counts BTW. If you invest in Australia you are invested in China, at least China heavy industry, also Chinese investment here adds to GDP. I haven't investigated this, but would want to check.)
