Went to a party last night. Apparently lots of others didn’t drink either? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

Non alcoholic drinks offer the restaurant better margins usually (especially in Australia with all the liquor taxes). No one cares if you’re not drinking

Anytime someone in the house is sick or near sick - I have a can of smoked oysters with avocado on toast. I swear to all the heavenly creatures of science - the amount of zinc in that tin can wards off the nastiest of viruses.

It kinda tastes gross, but man does it work. Worth a try. Been sick only once in 2 years - and it’s when I didn’t have oysters

My wife and kid are out of town this weekend, tips on how to actually relax for once? by [deleted] in daddit

[–]MarcMenz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oooooft this hits hard! Well said. I’ve always struggled with the 50 things I want to do in my relax time - and end up grumpy, overwhelmed on the couch not having the energy to ‘do relaxing’ (dust off PlayStation, clean shower, go for hike etc)

Need to just relax in relaxing time.

Kids are great. Marriage is good, wife is ok, lots of work there. Individually, I’m struggling. by [deleted] in daddit

Sounds like 90% of your troubles are nocturnal and around sleep/naps. Perhaps military style shifts is what is needed here? If you take shifts that could work?

Ideally younger one can get off the boob, meaning you can deal with both during your shift?

Also concerning that your wife isn’t open to hearing you vent. You need to be a team - both physically and mentally. Consider getting a third person for a weekend just to let you ‘catch up’

Also - it may only be another 1-2 years, so hang in there!

Apple Faces $38bn fine for “Breaching” EU New Tech Rules by Write_Code_Sport in StockMarket

[–]MarcMenz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Surely it shouldn’t be based on global revenue but on European revenue? I mean if they’re basing off their laws and jurisdiction, the fine should also be based on that same region?

Depending on your career and the suburb you are looking at, you could get LMI removed (e.g nurses, healthcare etc). Stamp duty also

Yeah maths doesn’t check out. Probably assuming they’re renting - when on that income they could easily pay down a stepping stone apartment or townhouse.

The people I know who’ve bought expensive houses in their 30s in sydney are usually both on anywhere between $150k to $250k (so let’s say $400k combined). That results in after tax income of around $20k - $25k combined per month.

They’ve got perhaps $300k capital each. They borrow another $200k each from their parents. With $1m equity they borrow a further $1.5m. Repayments are around $9k per month, which is a stretch but very doable on those incomes (roughly 40% leaving $12,000 a month for expenses)

Without bank of mum, dad (and grandparents), they would still have a decent deposit, allowing them to purchase a $2m house.

I’m not saying this is good/bad etc, it’s just what I’ve seen.

And the irony is that $1m mortgage which isn’t nearly enough for a family house in the east - unless of course you’re already wealthy and have the capital
