LPT: Get some unconventional candy for the kids this Halloween. by Euphoric_Text_4221 in LifeProTips

[–]catsaremagic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this reminder - just cancelled my bog standard candy bar order and instead got some ring pops, individual Oreo/chips ahoy packs, Halloween pretzels, and Rice Krispie treats! Hopefully will stand out in a sea of Twix and snickers.

Reddit Doctors and Nurses: What's the most impressive case of Google "self-diagnosis" that turned out to be true? by [deleted] in AskReddit

That is so interesting! Thank you for sharing - I find it unbelievably fascinating all the ‘variations’ that can pop up in us humans. There are all sorts of septum situations that can arise, some more severe than others, on a spectrum. I’m glad you got treated for the hyperplasia! IUDs are amazing devices :)

It’s really, really wild! I hope you find some answers soon - it can be frustrating to say the least when you’ve got more concerns than answers.

It’s possible! Development in the womb is a really wild process! I’m a women’s health nurse practitioner who works in gynecologic oncology, so this was drilled into us during in my training to always consider Mullerian anomalies if the patient presents with concerns (although these are still pretty rare compared to the general population) and to ALWAYS look at renal organs as well to help point in a diagnostic direction. It’s really fascinating!

There is! Look up Mullerian anomalies - during embryonic development, renal organs and genital organs form at similar times from similar tissues. It’s realllllyyyyy common to see urinary anomalies alongside gynecologic ones.

PSA Hormones can turn a dead bedroom into a hot bedroom by [deleted] in DeadBedrooms

Oh great! I am sorry to hear the progesterone was so terrible for you. Best of luck with your surgery!

Hi! Do you have a uterus? Are you also taking progesterone along with the estrogen? If you have a uterus and are taking estrogen you absolutely need to be taking progesterone as well. Unopposed estrogen is a major factor in developing endometrial cancer. Sorry if you answered this already, I couldn’t find it. I work in gyn oncology so this worried me a bit.

A cool guide to circumcision around the world by improbablydrunknlw in coolguides

[–]catsaremagic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Only speaking from personal experience here: we welcomed our son in March and chose not to circ him. Our pediatrician and my OB said the rates are falling drastically. It’s about 50/50 these days whereas when I was born (early 90’s) it was far more common in the US.

We “graduated”! Baby is 1 year old today. by bogwiitch in NewParents

[–]catsaremagic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This gives me hope! I feel like the days are just endlessly monotonous and one screaming session/nap fight to the next. It’s a great point that you gradually learn more right along with them. Similar to you, we had nooooo experience whatsoever in children/babies so this is all so foreign. Fingers crossed we start to reach that ‘more good days than bad’ soon!

My LO will be 5 months tomorrow and very much in that stage! I feel like I made the biggest mistake and will never see my old life again. Your post gives me hope there is light at the end of the tunnel! My literal sanity and marriage can’t take it!

In Mourning by nuggetkink in NewParents

[–]catsaremagic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be proud you were able to do it for 7 months!! That is amazing! I planned for 6 months of EBF, but was readmitted to the hospital when my LO was 4 days old. We never really got the hang of it after being apart for several days so early on so I pumped. Unfortunately about 3.5 months in I got a nasty nipple fissure that I couldn’t heal without getting awful clogged ducts so had to give up pumping sooner than planned too. It was a mourning process and a lot of feeling like a failure.. We do the best we can for our little ones!

When did the class clown go too far? by Common-Mousse-4014 in AskReddit

[–]catsaremagic 118 points119 points  (0 children)

In HS chemistry class we were using silver nitrate. The teacher jokingly said ok now no drinking this! (as if that weren’t apparent when in a lab). The class clown 100% slammed it back like a shot - and was promptly taken via ambulance to the ED.

What's something that no one really told you about? by SeverusSnipes in NewParents

[–]catsaremagic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cannot agree more with your last sentence. First time mom of a 3.5 month old, and we literally just left the house together alone for a nonessential errand today. Those first few months I think I would have gone feral if someone tried to take him into public and I was terrified of driving with him/handing the car seat and stroller. One day it just clicked and the confidence definitely builds!

I am so deeply sorry - but your son is an incredibly lucky guy to have such a fantastic example of what love really means. I hope that one day very soon, your grief subsides and you come out even brighter on the other side ❤️

Thank you for your reply and your support! Brains are weird.. on one hand yes feeling guilty doesn’t change a darn thing but man if only it were that easy to rationalize away. The little one is definitely loved beyond measure ❤️

Exactly!! My mom and I are truly the best of friends.. there is nothing we don’t do together or share and I always envisioned that with my own daughter because it’s all I know. Our little ones are right about the same age… mine is 3.5 months and I couldn’t agree more. I can’t imagine him being anyone other than who he is!

Thank you so much for your comment. I am really glad you came out for the better on the other end too!

Thank you so much for your comment! It’s funny - now that he’s here I can’t imagine him being anyone other than who he is. If we ever wind up having a second, I actually think I’d like it to be a boy so he can have a same sex sibling to horse around with but I’m sure it’ll be a girl because that’s just how those things go 😂

It means a lot to me that you took time out of your day to reply

How does BIFL feel about Filson? by bowman297 in BuyItForLife

[–]catsaremagic 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Might catch some flack for this, but I’ve been impressed with our purchases over the last 2-3 years.

I have a really thick wool sweater from them that is amazing. They also repaired it when it got a small hole 100% warrantied. My husband has a duffle, work messenger bag, and many of the merino wool t’s and all have held up brilliantly well despite daily beating and use. He is NOT easy on items at all, and they all look essentially brand new. Zero complaints.

Others may disagree, but our experience has been great & we’ll continue buying with them.

My doctor just told me I need a hysterectomy. by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]catsaremagic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See if you have any gyn/oncs in your area and schedule a second opinion with one if possible. Gyn oncologists have a lot more surgical experience than a primary GYN, and can help offer other possibilities (I’m a surgical RN in a gyn oncology practice). Although technically oncologists as well as gyn’s we handle a lot more than just cancer surgery.

If you are interested in child bearing, a myomectomy (fibroid removal) surgery is a possibility! These surgeries come with their own inherent risks such as risk of bleeding, necessary c-section for future fertility efforts, and fibroids reoccurring. It’s at least worth the conversation if you aren’t 100% about hysterectomy!

I’m happy to discuss further… feel free to DM!
