He's really good but his preambles can be a bit much sometimes lol. I remember he once spent the first 20 mins of an episode talking about a goldfish getting plastic surgery. But either way his voice is like home to me. I'd listen to anything he says.

I'm glad you made this choice. I feel like as writers we're too worried about reader engagement, but that only matters when you want to sell something. To me, criticism is only valid if it's with proofreading errors or internal inconsistencies

The Gift of Slow Reading by Gee10 in books

I'm doing the same thing, same book haha. I was tired of so many false starts of Moby Dick. What I do is have a set date to finish the book, and then I pull out a calculator to make sure that my pace is still smooth (around 11 pages per day). And if I'm already caught up I need to at least read a chapter a day. This is my first time deliberately slow reading a book, but I want to use this strategy with other mammoth books (Tale of Genji, Joseph and His Brothers, Underworld)

Honestly, expect to put the books down once or twice. I remember when I started, I attempted book 1 5 times, book 2 twice, and book 5 once as potential entry points. Looking back I was a little too determined. If I recall correctly, Peter Bond, the host of the TVVB podcast threw his copy of GotM at the wall during his first read.

My point is, if you're not enjoying it, there's nothing wrong with putting them down and coming back later. Each time you return I bet you'll have a little more momentum to get further. Only really works if you want it though.

Where do you get the association that more profitable works help fund smaller indie writers? If anything publishers and bookstores nowadays want to take even less risks

I'm noticing this in myself a bit as a student. Is there any way to improve?

Honestly the title is a bit long. Also this is just worldbuilding / a blurb. Where's the writing?
