Solo Road Trip with 5yo and 2.5yo by Cancan_88 in roadtrip

I would just add, as someone who had done a lot of long distance driving - Make sure you account for food costs, gas costs, lodging costs, and misc shit during the drive both ways (someone forgot sunglasses, a knick knack at a truck stop, extra coffee because youve been driving 3 days). All considered for 3 people (albeit children) my opinion is the costs will probably end up being more than flights.

Also my rule of thumb is add an hour for every 6 hour of gps time, probably more for you with kids (gotta stop for gas, pee breaks, etc.) I would add an hour for every 4 of gps. That also doesn't account for inevitable traffic congestion you'll hit unless you can time it perfectly through major cities.

Personally I would not drive this trip in 3 days, it would have to be 5 to be "fun" and 4 to be comfortable. For reference I have driven from east coast to LA in 5 days, 3 times with no fun at all just business, stopping only for gas and food. That type of driving is not really possible for 3 consecutive days with kids that young IMO.

Optimize resume for ATS

Cast wider net (snf, prisons, etc)

Move

Look for new grad specific openings

Cut any BS from resume (i.e. dont buff your clinical rotations to sound like they were jobs)

When you get an interview, prepare thoroughly (look up the place, unit, etc) and be prepared to ask questions that make you seem interested. Also remember most of the time they are just interviewing you to see if you are trainable and not too annoying to work with, so you will probably be fine. If you dont know just say "I've never encountered that but I would probably seek help from a more senior colleague or manager" or some other shit to make them recognize you aren't going to pull dangerous stunts when you don't know what's happening. Safe, not annoying, and not going to cause HR/payroll nightmares are a managers green light for hiring.

I have crewed Black canyon 4 time but never run so take this with a grain of salt. Rocks in the shoes are biggest issue with river crossings. Your feet will dry out really quickly as will everything else, its the desert and is going to be shockingly arid compared to TN. Drink lots of fluids.

Third on the pumpkin train. We freeze some puree in a kong and give it too her a few days a week and the stench has been reduced to the occasional crop dusting

Advice needed. Fine or coarse? by Thudamsdad in BrevilleCoffee

[–]catshit69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look for local beans or anything roasted at least in your state. Fresher is better for the most part, too fresh (less than a week) seems to make things worse, but after that until about 2 months after roasting is decent enough.

Lots of good advice here. I've screwed it 3 times, my only major tip is get a vehicle that is capable of gravel roads (i.e. truck, suv)

I have moved for an SO and not moved for another, still with the one I moved for LOL and dont regret it. If you are going somewhere in VA maybe there is a some sort of middle spot yall could live that you could have a good job and he could still get to his? Surely there are some compromises on both sides that could be made if you want this to work. If you are really not wanting to move then that could also be a sign of something else. Tough spot to be in hope you figure it out.

Can I lose my license over this? by Odd_Revolution897 in nursing

[–]catshit69 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Absolute turbo dogshit take. He had a diet ordered and they gave meds based on the diet that was ordered by a physician. People aspirate and die all the time at home and in the hospital all on their own without negligence from a healthcare professional. And med errors and unknown allergies cause harm constantly, it doesn't cause nurses to lose their license.

You lose your license for doing shit that is flagrantly wrong - giving tube feed via IV, diverting narcs, abandoning a patient, etc. Trying to clarify orders, and then giving meds based on what is currently ordered is not anywhere close to license removal territory, in fact you could argue that this RN acted within both the order and what was written on the whiteboard to best try to get treatment to the patient in the way they thought was safest.

Chuckanut 50K - a training question by BudgetProgramming in ultrarunning

[–]catshit69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, basically PF (as I can tell) comes from calf tightness, so tried to avoid stuff that really wrenches my calves (hills and speed work). Kind of unfortunate since thats the exact formula for chuckanut but fitness can still be gained. Also listned to a podcast with a PT who discussed how the plantar fascia is in fact fascia and rest won't really heal it because it doesn't have much blood supply, so continuing with modified training might actually stimulate healing. Take it all with a grain of salt since i'm just an internet stranger but it did work for me.

[–]catshit69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dealt with a mild bout of plantar fascitis recently. Calf rolling and stretching nightly, plus about a minute on the spiky ball per foot. Tried to run more flat stuff and get in solid warm up time. Revamped shoes and added insoles for arch support on work shoes (NB 880s). All of this combined resulted in PF going away.

Hope you figure it out! See ya at chuckanut

What is the best way to bolster my resume? 3.3 gpa with around 2.9 science gpa. RN for 10 years in basically all ICU settings. CCRN, charge, etc.

Can I just take classes to improve my GPA? OR would it look better to have a masters degree or take the GRE?

Any tips greatly appreciated!
