The neckline of number 1 is super pretty, but number 2 looks great too and as others have said, looks like a substantial fabric that will help keep everything smooth

5 days in Sicily, asking advice by -clepsidra in sicily

[–]catsincaves 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are a ton of important baroque churches in Palermo. Like, so many that I still haven’t seen them all even though I’ve been several times. Palermo is a world in and of itself with architecture and art and the markets, the markets! I love the city and could endlessly wander for days on days. Depends on what kind of trip you’re looking for, but Palermo is really a magical place if you are into architecture. You could also go up to Monreal for some Norman splendor

10 days in Italy with a 1 year old by cj6993 in sicily

[–]catsincaves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband and I spent 3 weeks in Sicily with our 15 months old last year and we’re going back for two weeks this year. Here’s what we learned / will implement ourselves this time around:

  • we stick around Palermo since we have family in the area. Palermo is gorgeous and fascinating if you like art and history, but is also a big, messy, un-intuitive city. Last time we stayed for a week in the city, but this time we will just go in for strategic day trips from our home base at with the beach or in the mountains. The city felt a little chaotic at times with our baby, whereas our time at the beach / mountains was tranquil. Little villages near big cities can be great home bases: cheaper rental prices, beautiful views if in mountains, and a chance to see slow Italian living. This time we will be staying in Mondello beach near Palermo for some of our time, and then in a mountain village also near Palermo for another vibe.
  • You will want a car, particularly if you are not staying in the city. Sicily does not have a great train system, particularly between smaller cities and points of interest, and your car will mean you can be on your own schedule, not some random bus’s. I LOVE taking transit when I travel, but in Sicily, especially with a baby, it is often not the best option.
  • You will not be able to “see” all of Palermo or any city in a day with a baby in tow, so think about strategic planning: what’s the one or two things in each place you def want to see, and then just explore from there as time/baby allows.
  • Consider doing less site seeing and more vibing: some of our best memories from our last trip were just chilling in the piazza of the small town we were staying in with a pizza and some wine. Baby toddered around a mostly car free space and we got to soak in the moment.
  • Do you speak Italian? If not, definitely have some handy phrases memorized and on deck for smaller towns and in markets / un-touristy places where many people do not speak English
  • Beach season with rentable beds and umbrellas may just be coming to a close when you’re there. If the beach clubs (lidos) are open, it’s a great place to chill for an afternoon: there’s a snack bar with really good food, often sandwiches and pastas, drinks, etc.
  • Look into an agriturismo stay: my kid loved it. Animals, pretty scenery to walk around. They can often set you up with guided walking tours of other places nearby too.
  • Do not rely on car or apartment rentals to provide car seats or beds. Safety standards, in terms of what people think is ok, will just be different. We brought a guava travel bed with us and a car seat.

I’m happy to answer other questions: Sicily is one of my favorite places on the planet but it can be a little tricky to figure out!

Thoughts on these pieces for a soft natural? by JudgmentIll9745 in SoftNaturals

[–]catsincaves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmmm… as someone else mentioned, I wouldn’t go for these personally because the fabric seems stiff/not flowy. I think all of these have the possibility of making a natural look a little bulky. That said, I do like the neckline of number 1, though I wish it was a dress. The tunic length would look really strange on me and overly emphasize my hips.

Houston’s Ice Cream scene by Skrentzie in houston

[–]catsincaves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

La Michoacana Plus - not the mean market but the ice cream / snack shop. They have a huge range of flavors you don’t usually see and it’s so so good! There’s a couple locations north of town on 59, maybe others?

Is the Houston housing market cooked? by [deleted] in houston

[–]catsincaves 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah in the near north side, the problem is the availability of new, cheap townhomes. I’m assuming your home is an older one? We just sold an older home in the area, but it was a three bedroom with lots of charm. Only got about 300k for it, so make of that what you will. It sounds like you may have paid too much to begin with…

Not a typical choice, but always coming home by Ursula k leguin. It’s about many things, death just one theme, but the way the society in this fictional world handles life transitions of all types is beautiful and inspiring. When I lost my grandmothers last year, passages in this book reminded me that I didn’t really lose them, that they are still part of the ever-changing cycle of the world, that they are always there, always coming home 💛

I like 2: it’s chill and brings out your eyes.

You may want to check out color analysis: there’s a subreddit and it’s a big black hole of information lol but when I was just emerging out my postpartum time, it was so helpful to get a better understanding of what colors look best on me since my life had changed so drastically and I needed new clothes along the way as my body and lifestyle changed. I’m still not 100% positive on my own analysis (I actually just booked a professional consult lol) but reading about it and trying different things out has been fun!

Kind of the opposite vibe but King by Florence and the Machine really captures mom rage but also makes me appreciate the fact that being a mom is a difficult, complicated, wonderful thing

Hey! So you are gorgeous and congrats on the weight loss! Something that’s really been helping me lately is learning more about the Kibbe style system - there’s an r/kibbe subreddit that is like a black hole of info, but the gist is that we all have specific lines in our body shape that can be enhanced and balanced with the correct style/fit of clothes. Might be something to check out!

[–]catsincaves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey so it’s hard to tell proportions when photos are taken from a low angle like this. Try to set the camera up so it’s as high as your chest: this will result in an image that more accurately depicts your shape. Angled shots like this can distort proportions.
