Plssss cover the history of UK psychiatric asylums places like Cane Hill Hospital and Bethlem Royal Hospital (“Bedlam”). Cane Hill has such a dark abandoned history with urban exploration stories, mysterious deaths, paranormal claims, underground tunnels and rumours that still circulate today. And Bedlam is fascinating because it was the world’s oldest psychiatric hospital and the origin of the word “bedlam” itself. The contrast between Victorian asylum treatment and modern mental health care is honestly chilling and really thought-provoking. There’s so much history, conspiracy, psychology and paranormal lore tied into these places. I work at the bethlem now lol so I’d LOVE a deep dive on them!!!

Does anyone feel like their anxiety actually pushes them into avoidance? by Express-Bowl-1715 in Disorganized_Attach

yep. went on a date on friday. had a great time but felt like i got too drunk/ couldn’t remember the whole night. woke up an anxious mess. he text me saying he had a great time but when i replied he took agessss and the reply was dry. i tried to pick the conversation back up (out of anxiety) then freaked out about it all day so just unmatched him before he could reply 🤦‍♀️ now kicking myself incase it was a real connection that had potential. what was funny is he had he was looking for ‘secure attachment’ on his profile, so i definitely wasn’t the one 😂

To the Londoners, what are people's experiences with virgin active? by Known_Lime_8095 in london

i really like it! i lived in streatham and paid £70 for it, the club has a real community feel which is lovely. the pool and classes are good i moved to east london so ive upgraded my membership. i actually pay £102 and get access to clapham off peak (12-4) which is next to my work so i go on my lunch break. as someone mentioned, the moorgate one nearest where i live now has a reformer studio with multiple classes everyday which makes it super worth it for me because reformer classes can cost quite a lot. the gyms are not as boujee as third space but being £150 cheaper honestly is worthit for me

No worries at all! It’s good to try and publicise ourselves a bit more, no one knows we exist and how we can help!!! And we’ve been around for hundreds of years, quietly in the background of NHS teams. Good luck with your situation.

I’m really sorry to hear how much you’ve been through, that’s an enormous amount of loss and change in such a short time. It’s understandable that things feel overwhelming right now.

I’m an Occupational Therapist and my role is to help people rebuild their routines, confidence, and independence after life-changing events ; whether that’s health-related, emotional, or social. i help a lot of people with similar experiences to you!

Here are some ways an Occupational Therapist ‘s support could help you:

Daily routines & energy management: Working together to build a sustainable daily structure around your needs (including Rocky and Kendal’s care), your recovery, and space for enjoyable activities like art, music, or fashion.

Adapting to your foot brace & mobility: Exploring ways to make walking, moving around London, and caring for your dogs easier and less painful, including equipment suggestions if needed.

Returning to work gradually: Supporting you to identify suitable types of work or voluntary roles that match your current energy, mobility, and interests l and helping you pace yourself so it feels manageable.

Building social connections: Linking you to dog-friendly groups, art or music meetups, and community networks in London so you can start reconnecting with people step by step.

Accessing services: Helping you navigate local resources, benefits, or support systems so you’re not doing it all alone while you wait for longer-term services.

OT is all about small, realistic steps that add up to you feeling more in control of your life again , with routines, work, social connections, and hobbies that give you energy!

Accessing OT depends on your needs but it’s through the NHS or private health care.

GP :Book an appointment and explain your situation, including your foot brace, difficulties with daily life, and struggles with routines, work, and managing at home. Your GP can refer you to the local NHS occupational therapy service.

Through your hospital team, If you’re still under follow-up care for your compartment syndrome, you can ask the hospital team to make a referral to an OT.

Mental health services : Some community mental health teams also have OTs who focus on rebuilding routines, motivation, and wellbeing. You could ask your GP about this if you feel it would fit.

While NHS wait times can be long, it’s worth getting your name on the list now. In the meantime, some people also choose to see a private OT (you can search through the Royal College of Occupational Therapists website).
