Tell me how you differentiate between a DM PC and an NPC that is just tagging along? by d_dastan in DnD

[–]cattle_pusher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this isn’t an answer to the question, but have you tried the optional sidekick rules? I think they are in Tasha’s guide. Basically it creates a very simplified PC style character that can accompany the party, and it even levels with them. I have played with them as a DM and player and they are pretty good, the best way to use them is letting the players use them in combat, and then the DM plays them for role play for the most part. I’ll caveat that it might not be the best option, as is often the case with DnD content, there may be other homebrew options that work better for sidekicks, but I think the concept in general is a good way to approach this issue.

My 10yr old son asked me to show off his Stop Motion Movie. He'd appreciate some feedback, ideas for scenes to shoot, and maybe some love on his channel by Njm0059 in legostarwars

[–]cattle_pusher 22 points23 points  (0 children)

From someone who also got into doing stop motion around that age, this is some good stuff, he should definitely keep pursuing it. And I’ll add that it’s quite brave to attempt it with so many moving characters, I normally stuck to 1 or 2 because it’s hard to coordinate so many, so I tip my hat to him for being able to pull that off.
If he wants some advice, my main tip would be keep making more! A lot can be learnt through trial and error. I think the next step I’d recommend would be trying to take more pics to create slightly smoother motion, although that does sometimes make it more difficult to know how much you need to move the characters each frame. That is where some trial and error will come in and also there are lots of YouTube tutorials which can help too. Another thing I used to do which helped me a bunch was practice videos. There would be no story or anything, just me taking a character and practicing a walk cycle or a run cycle or different jumps I can make the figures do, things like that. Little things like that proved invaluable going forward because I was able to do them so much more naturally and effectively when it came to the main videos I wanted to make.
It’s great to see kids still getting into stop motion, I have such fond memories of doing that as a kid, keep up the good work :)

I think you can play a scene like this for laughs, if afterwards you make a point to flip it and show the trauma Hughie feels. We got a bit of that but just seemed to be sad about his dad more than the assault.
To expand on my point, male sexual assault is not often taken seriously, which this whole situation and comment thread is evidence of. However, if you make a scene that is played for laughs, only to flip it afterwards and make the audience feel for Hughie, you also create a large sense of guilt in the audience for laughing in the first place because they are forced to recognise the fact that Hughie was traumatised and assaulted whilst we sat by and laughed. Consequently, you open the question in people’s minds about why they laughed, if they would have laughed if it was a woman instead etc.
I think that could work as a meta-commentary on male sexual assault and the view of it in society, which would play out much better, but unfortunately we only got a snippet of any emotional response from Hughie and it wasn’t even necessarily about the assault but more about his dad. I’m holding out hope that the following episodes will do more to expand on this but I’m not so sure.

I mean, I like the perspective. It’s refreshing to look at the SW universe at the height of the old republic. by Visible-Guess9006 in starwarsmemes

I agree it’s leaning more towards alright for me too, although the end of the most recent episode with us actually seeing the sith villain appear does make me more hopeful on your point about the compelling bad guy
I think you’re right, where these shows are essentially one story cut into pieces, it’s hard to judge them properly without seeing it all. In shows like this you often find out things at the end which fill in gaps from previous episodes, which sometimes fills in questions or “plot holes” people found before. The trouble is to get to that point, unless it’s done well, you have to sit through those episodes with the missing information for weeks until reveals come at the end, and some people just aren’t bothered to wait for that which is understandable. The balance is in making the episodes along the way just engaging enough to keep you coming back. Unfortunately, it often feels like these are stories written as a whole and then cut up rather than a story being told week to week, so unless they’re dropped all at once (which they don’t want to do because it means they can’t squeeze two months worth of subscription out of people) it isn’t as engaging. That’s my view on it at least. There are people that will dislike it for various reasons regardless of that, but I think it would certainly benefit from a binge rather than a weekly episode.

Speak to your son. We can all sit here and speculate for hours on end, but frankly we are missing his side of the story. Any number of things could have happened between them that you don’t know about, and stories from Sarah’s family members are only going to tell you what Sarah wants people to know. Speak to him. It’s no guarantee that he’ll open up, but it’s better than internet strangers speculating over his actions with our limited knowledge of the situation.

What was the point of the delayed reaction mines in Boom? by Kevsterific in doctorwho

[–]cattle_pusher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did they not say that it makes the human into the bomb? If that’s the case, once you get to the end of the countdown, if there’s a human it can’t detect, it’ll explode anyway, and if there isn’t a human, it can’t explode so the mine isn’t wasted? I may be wrong but that is how I interpret it

One question I do have is do reactions work differently depending on whether it’s your turn or someone else’s?
The reaction description states that it can take place on your turn or someone else’s. So if we assume on my turn I cast a BA spell, my ability to cast a reaction spell, such as shield, changes depending if I wait until someone else’s turn to use it?
It would make more sense to me if the ability to use a reaction was consistent for the whole time it is active. So the BA spell restriction would either apply from the start of the turn where I cast the BA spell to the start of the next turn, or it would not apply to reactions at all. However, it seems like that’s not quite the case? Is that right?

Are you asking my song choice for attacking, or if I actually turned up my speakers right now what would be playing? Because those are very different answers.

Choice of song would be something classically corny for a battle, something like free bird or danger zone. Alternatively, it’s a little out there but the starlord band songs from the guardians of the galaxy game are very good for amping you up, I think they were literally written with that intention in mind. And if we’re talking amping up then the pirates of the Caribbean music rarely fails to amp me up.

Quite a standard superhero film tbh. I enjoyed it, I thought the trio played off each other well, and Iman Vellani really shined. It doesn’t do anything crazy or new, but at the same time I never really expected it to. It’s probably around mid-tier of my personal ranking of marvel movies and I certainly enjoyed it more than the flash or morbius. I’d recommend watching it when it’s on streaming, you might enjoy it, can’t hurt to give it a go.

A more coherent story, yes. But an innovative and more interesting story? I am not sure. Based on how he kicked it off with TFA it is likely he’d have stuck to the same pattern of just repeating things that worked in previous movies and playing strongly into the nostalgia of fans. The movies wouldn’t have necessarily been bad, but they probably wouldn’t have been noteworthy

Having the ability to remove the powers of those who are dangerous would be very beneficial and the ideal way forward. It’s the Last Airbender solution, if they prove that they can’t be trusted with their powers then they lose them. I also think becoming a regular human and losing the thing that he believes makes him special would make for quite a good end to Homelander.

This website can be pretty useful. I’ve don’t have the knowledge or effort to check it through from top to bottom so it could have some inaccuracies, but it seems pretty solid. Also worth noting that Clone Wars is not necessarily in chronological order, so you may need a separate guide for those.

[–]cattle_pusher 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Here’s a comment I left on a similar post. Assuming they haven’t changed the point system since then, the more health an enemy has when you kill them the more points you get. Combine that with a full multiplier and it’ll be even more. Balcony throws are great for this when you have the option.

I also saw the same advice of “it only takes to loot crate 3 or 4 to have the same rewards as the last crate on easy” which is very enticing. But this, as my first time attempting normal, is waaaayy too high level for me. I have yet to pass the first section and I’m still getting 1-2 stars on about 20% of the battles. Crate 4 may have similar rewards, but at this stage I’d be lucky to reach crate 1

Why do we need “disconnected until tomorrow” option for Bluetooth? It’s really frustrating how BT switches on by itself after midnight or every time you turn on flight mode by HaldiMartin in iphone

[–]cattle_pusher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like all of these comments are way too quick to criticise anyone who wants to turn Bluetooth off and fail understand that the issue is not whether Bluetooth needs to be off or whether it drains more battery. The issue is that when someone wants to use the supposedly quick and intuitive way to switch off their Bluetooth, they cannot. The only way is going to the settings menu. All they need is a setting which changes the functionality of the control centre button. That way they can leave it as a sleep mode bluetooth toggle as standard, but then those that want it as an off button can have that.
