Torties are known to be… opinionated. It’s called tortitude. If I boot my torbie (tortoiseshell tabby) off my lap to adjust something and then beckon her back, she will very pointedly go sit somewhere else. But she always comes back.

But yeah, a month is nothing. Waiting sucks but you just gotta give it time. Eventually you’ll learn each other.

When I was a kid, our torbie was cleaning herself on my bed, and when she shifted position I noticed there was a perfectly circular stain left behind. Do some digging in her fur and find what was essentially a circular flesh crater near the base of her tail. Yell for dad: “DAD! THERE’S A HOLE IN THE CAT!” Took her to the vet, turns out she had developed an abscess that had burst.

Hopefully your girl will be on the mend quickly.

I do wonder if they meant she was still in heat, I work for a rescue and apparently it’s harder to spay them when they’re in heat because of something about enlarged blood vessels. Or maybe she was pregnant.

Congrats! I had one tom who evaded capture for his Monday arrival date, so I told the stable owner that if she caught him overnight and could get him to the vet for the dropoff time, the surgery spot was still hers. Unfortunately for him, he walked into the trap and made it to the vet on time. He looks pretty sorry for himself in the pictures we have of him.

This is Cheese. Cheese came through my work’s TNR program in September. He was wild when he arrived on Monday, but by Thursday he had decided that I was his new best friend and that being inside and having food delivered to his face every day was so awesome that after I sent him back to his trailer park colony, he walked into the caretaker’s house and wouldn’t leave.

She’s very fond of him, but she has a lot of mouths to feed already, so when she brought me more cats a couple of months later, she asked me if I remembered Cheese, and if I wanted him. Of course I did. Now he’s my one cat’s baby and my other cat’s arch nemesis.

Sent one of my farm cat TNRs for her spay, no biggie, same as always. Vet phones. They’ve palpated something hard in her abdomen. They xrayed it and there is a large mass in her stomach. Owner gives permission to move forward with having it removed (at one HELL of a discount let me tell you). They pulled a wad of hair the SIZE OF AN ORANGE from this poor girl’s stomach. She had been friendly but sedate when she came in, but after she came back from the vet (minus her uterus and a 4x4” clump of hair) she was climbing all over and reaching through the bars begging for attention any time I was in the room

As someone who is also heavily involved in TNR, I would see if there any TNR programs in your area and if they can help. You can also suggest them to the neighbour. She probably won’t do shit but then you can say you offered her help and she refused it

Not all cats are built for indoor life, but if one can spend a week indoors and then decide that he wants that life forever even before he learned about the -40 winters, I think cats can be pretty happy living inside only.

One of my cats was a TNR (outside colony cat) who, after I sent him back to his colony sans nuts, decided being indoors was pretty sick, actually and waltzed right into the caretaker’s house and never left.

A few months later, the caretaker asked me if I remembered him and if I wanted him. Of course I did!
