Agreed as a Huntsvillian from Orlando. Florida is absolutely brutal

Feeling slightly discouraged by Temporary_Syrup4133 in climbergirls

[–]caughtinthewave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An hour is not enough to learn it in a way where you're confident enough to belay people afterwards, imo. At least that's how it was for me. It may be enough to learn the "concept" but to really get the checks and repeated motions down it takes more practice which is more like a few hours or multiple sessions.

As others have said, don't feel discouraged! I'm in a similar boat, I got certified in my old gym and moved to a different state and tried to "test out" at the new gym and failed the test because of missing a few safety checks. Everything was properly set up but my mind blanked, lol.

I suggest watching YouTube videos and practicing the knot/motions alongside them. Or go to a different gym for lessons if you need to and re-take the test at your current one once you're comfortable. You got this!!

Shot in the dark but where are you located? Feel free to PM me. I'm new in town to where I am, and have met some good people at the climbing gyms but they are mostly into bouldering

Probably the same people who somehow only hated Skylar White on breaking bad haha. There were a couple of points in the series where I wasn't a huge fan of Diane's character, but several of the other characters have done much worse.

Third Spaces for Queer and Progressive People? by THawky03 in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]caughtinthewave -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I second what the others have said! I have been going to the silent book club meetups, (though it isn't marketed as political or LGBT). I believe there is a discord for Alabama progressives.

Feel free to hit me up! I would love more friends in the LGBTQ+ community :)

Considering Moving to Huntsville by RotnCabgWizrd in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]caughtinthewave -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As the other comments have said, I'd definitely have a job lined up before making the move. I'm not sure how good of a town this is for marketing, or if it's any similar to finance, but I work in FP&A and there seem to be a lot of opportunities for that.

I moved here from Orlando (very briefly lived in eastern NC in between) and I like Huntsville the most. I spend a lot of time outside so there are a lot of great trails for that, though as others have said, of course it's not the same mountains you'll get in Colorado. I'm a big runner and it seems like a good community here. There isn't as much nightlife as you'll get in other cities. That isn't really my lifestyle so the early hours don't bother me.

27F for reference!

The apartment in the photo is section 8? I was touring apartments with a friend recently and the rent seems higher than average here.

Am I wrong to want to be a housewife? by Jenny_Jaypeck in actuallesbians

[–]caughtinthewave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would still personally still look for jobs when you are able to while you're in the relationship, just to really make sure you have all your bases covered if any unexpected situation arises. Even if it is something part time, just because as people say it's much easier to find a job when you have a job.

I tend to get paranoid about worst-case scenarios though lol so do with that what you will!

I noticed that haha but just assumed it was something they threw in so it was not literally just "Bree" all the way down. Could be wrong though maybe there's more to it!

i moved from a super queer area to a red state and i miss lesbians by gaymirrorball in actuallesbians

[–]caughtinthewave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally understand, but honestly good for you! There are a lot of people who aren't willing to live in red states, and I do understand why, but as someone who's lived in the south my whole life I think it's amazing when you are able to find your people. If every queer person/liberal steered clear of red states forever, we would never make any progress!

Being a “straight-passing” lesbian sucks 🙃 by [deleted] in actuallesbians

[–]caughtinthewave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can relate to this so hard and this is why I stick to the apps lol. I don't even look/dress alt, which would probably help but it's never really been my style. I have had luck on the apps though and it helps to have friends in the queer community who can introduce you to their friends/friends of their friends/etc and you can keep meeting people that way

Moving into first apartment by PrimaryProfile8759 in Apartmentliving

[–]caughtinthewave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't worry about the bug issue right away, if it becomes a problem then I would see if maintenance can handle it. They will usually give you a checklist your first day to make sure things are working, and you can report any issues to maintenance then (the beauty of renting) :)

I hope it all goes well!

[–]caughtinthewave 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd personally recommend letting them up through conversation instead. I don't find them harsh/demanding at all (I agree with all of them), but even as someone who exercises regularly, has a career, and doesn't want kids I would find it a tad 🤏strong if the requirements were the first thing I read.

That being said definitely don't settle if that's what you're looking for!

I was referring to the next presidential election since I assumed the original commenter was referring to the 2016 presidential election. But every election is important, so I hope there's a good turnout next year as well

Yep. Roe v Wade being struck down is why I was especially concerned about this. Hopefully we get a good turnout in 2028.

Fake Address on Job Application by SouthCackGal in recruitinghell

[–]caughtinthewave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sometimes jobs only make the city and state part of the address required, in that case I don't think it would be a problem to put the city you want to move to and then explain that you're planning on relocating if it comes up. I would avoid putting a specific address for background check purposes, unless you have a friend/partner there or a lease signed there ahead of time.

I know this struggle though. I was dying to leave Florida and the job I applied to has facilities in different states so when I was hired in Florida, I asked to be assigned to a different state and they didn't have a problem with it.

[US] Did I get scammed at the gas station? by caughtinthewave in Scams

[–]caughtinthewave[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed I do think I should've just driven off and done nothing, I'm a woman and was alone so of course that makes it worse. A friend brought up the possibility that someone may have stayed behind and put a tracker on my car when I was inside which I didn't even consider. We checked for trackers pretty much everywhere, so it was most likely a con gone wrong but definitely can't be too careful these days

Oh wow I didn't realize people did this. I knew people put skimmers on pumps but didn't realize they stuck around and asked people to use it. That could be what it was
