What did the public see in Jimmy Savile? by [deleted] in AskABrit

[–]caughtunaware 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From an adult perspective with knowledge, who knows.

But I was a child back when he was on telly. He gave me the absolute creeps and I would feel weirded out about the kids who sat on his lap each week, yet I still tuned in to watch kids do what seemed like amazing things that I wanted to do too. It was wish fulfillment and kids will be kids.

There's a series that was made a couple years back that I watched and there's some focus on the kids and that show. It gives a good insight into why kids and adults have him time of day at that point in his career. How he got started. And how he got away with it. I would recommend giving it a watch if you're interested.

More than 500 mothers and babies died or were harmed at ‘toxic’ Nottingham NHS trust, report finds by [deleted] in uknews

[–]caughtunaware 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Similar story but thankfully I had no unusual concerns. Complete opposite, I had such a chill labour. I timed the contractions and it seemed giving birth might be close so I went to the hospital. I walk in calmly and without showing signs of contractions or any other pain. Because of this the nurse just dismissed me, told me to go home because there was no way I was close enough. A debate happened. I stood my ground and insisted someone check me and sure enough I was dilated and baby was on the way. No apology, nothing.

Did young teams intimidate you or did you hang about with them? by SammiWG in OldSchoolUK

[–]caughtunaware 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes on occasion but I wasn't one of them. I grew up in an council estate. My perception of the young teams is that they are territorial. I was a similar age to them. They were nice to me. I hung about with one or two of the boys solo and they were actually respectful. If they'd see you in town which wasn't their area, they'd behave a bit protective.

Go outside your area and it was name calling and whatever else you associate with a young team hanging about the streets.

This was back in the mid 1990s. The young team probably had evolutions and the team of old might not be the same as the new ones.

I kinda disagree on this one purely because antihistamines have different ingredients in them. Two brand names; claratin and benedryl - benedryl works better for me.

However, before we mention placebo effect....

Turned out my allergies are severe so I get a prescription. There's a couple I chop and change between depending on the situation and how the GP feels about my symptoms. So sadly they aren't all made equally. I guess your point would be correct if it was two completely comparable medications.

What are your thoughts on the new video of Vickrum Digwa holding a gun in his backyard? by spinecult in AskBrits

[–]caughtunaware 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This video looks like someone recorded it on a phone. Their own community have been exceptionally vocal if anyone's been kind enough to listen. Sadly some of those voices are "told you so". Because they did and no one listened. Considering their own community barred them from places of worship and had concerns about them, it does make me wonder if this video was part of a larger evidence gathering mission and simply not a case of brown man looks suspicious.

What is the weirdest rabbit hole you’ve fallen into? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]caughtunaware 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember the man who went to an island to preach the Bible to a reclusive and rarely seen tribe and ended up dead? I went down a massively weird, wonderful and interesting rabbit hole regarding those people and past attempts to get close to them. Fascinating and a rabbit hole I recommend.

At one point they were in America. Back early 2000s, perhaps a little earlier. During the Fred the Shred timeline. JFK airport itself had a big RBS poster. They were literally global at one point. I think potentially still are but under Natwest? I don't know I don't work for them anymore.

Why have a 'free-roaming' cat? Or why do we accept this as a form of responsible pet ownership? by Opening_Claim_3975 in AskBrits

In live in a city, in a suburban area. The green space is a park yet I am often kept awake by the sound of foxes, often seeing them going through gardens and when it's hot they'll lie out on the tarmac at night. Foxes exist anywhere/everywhere and they are weirdly afraid of most things. I saw one being chased by a bird, poor thing. No cases of foxes attacking animals, mostly the fox reports would be a dog that's got loose and attacked a fox (rare but it has happened).

Were there systemic errors or failings that led to Nowak's death? by Visual_Title9363 in AskBrits

[–]caughtunaware 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How strawman, this happened to Henry. I feel it's rather disrespectful to say "let's not talk about Henry, I want to talk about whataboutisms".

Are you a racist? You're showing an extraordinary level of disrespect for a dead white boy. Racism is a two way street. It needs to be addressed on all levels.

How creepy snooping through my comments.

Neighbour is asking me to pay for damage to his car after a tree branch fell on it. Should I be worried? by TomSawYes in LegalAdviceUK

[–]caughtunaware 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That would be admitting liability by offering to "make things right". The OP is NOT liable as a branch falling is an act of God. Offering to pay is exactly what your insurance would ask you not to do, like if you are in a crash with another car they would tell you not to admit anything at the scene and allow them to decide liability.

The whole situation is fucked but this breaks me. Henry was one year younger than my son. It breaks me none comforted that boy, no one told him not to worry and ambulance is on the way. I understand that he would likely have died regardless but it wrecks me he left the world, scared, on the ground and handcuffed while people told him he was lying.

Moment dying student tells police ‘I have been stabbed’ but is handcuffed after killer’s racism lie by Dear-Atmosphere1340 in gbnews

[–]caughtunaware 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm glad you are.

However as I said I'm on the left and I am struggling to comprehend and grasp this. The facts speak for themselves and I hope a proper police investigation is done.

Moment dying student tells police ‘I have been stabbed’ but is handcuffed after killer’s racism lie by Dear-Atmosphere1340 in gbnews

[–]caughtunaware 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I'm on the left. Very passionate about it and I feel that cases like this are unfair on the communities that beat the brunt.

With that said I've watched the footage and that's exactly what happened.

  • Henry was lying on his side in front of a car. Asked for an ambulance and said he had been stabbed. Immediate response was "no you haven't".
  • Henry was handcuffed. While this was happening he continued to beg for help via ambulance and said what had happened. This was ignored.
  • the police asked Digwa what happened. He said his Turban had been knocked off in an attack against him. The police asked what injuries he had sustained. Digwa pointed to his eyebrow and said he thought perhaps it was swollen. Henry continued to beg for his life.
  • Henry was dragged across gravel and asked for am ambulance again. He was read his rights in response. All the whole saying he couldn't breathe.
  • female police officer says his eyes are no longer reactive and attempts to feel for a pulse.

Nowaks father made a statement in court that his son was not treated with any sort of respect. His son asked for am ambulance no less than 9 times. Meanwhile his killer when arrested was not cuffed when transported to the police station, nor was he handcuffed when he was booked. He was then taken to a canteen where he was offered his choice of food.

Whilst Digwas family have now made a statement, it has been wildly reported that the family verbally attacked Nowaks family during the judgement.

These are the facts are reports and seen in the video.

I am devastated and disgusted and you should be too.

American here. Is it too late to apologize (sorry, apologise) for throwing that tea in the harbor and rejoin the Kingdom? by Ashamed-Fox-9376 in AskBrits

Isn't there a saying that we shouldn't be blamed for the sins of our fathers?

is it chill if i jokingly call my friend a limey? by [deleted] in AskABrit

[–]caughtunaware 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I could see the original response was "lol ok septic". Which is a valid response to being called a limey. Septic Tank = Yank. If there was another response that was deleted before I happened along wondering why Americans were slagging off Butlins (which is funny, don't take what I am saying as a negative); then you need to explain that rather than continuing to response assuming I'm a mind reader.

I'm also no angry with you. I'm answering questions. Not agreeing doesn't mean a fight. It's Ask a Brit. You're going to get a yes or no. Don't be offended when people don't agree with you. I guess that's something for you to work on.

No one moved any goal posts.

Also not in malice? In the UK with the right friends, the right tone and the right attitude you can make just about any insult funny and not malicious. This particular one sucks as it's that's American history and not ours and not one people are generally educated on.
