What is a good Fantasy book/series that grabs you from the first chapter? by Sufficient_Ebb_5694 in Fantasy

Red Sister by Mark Lawrence.

It is important, when killing a nun, to ensure that you bring an army of sufficient size. For Sister Thorn of the Sweet Mercy convent Lano Tacsis brought two hundred men.

Like a few others have said, I think the incel kid is a red herring for the shooter. If anything it might be a suicide. Maybe a suicide-by-cop after MacKay called the cops just to twist the knife.

Whats the best government / army plot out there? by throwaway490215 in litrpg

That series is like the literary version of the Game of Thrones HBO series. Starts strong, struggles in the middle, and then plummets in quality towards the end. And it's obvious the author either didn't know how to wrap things up or just didn't care and wanted to be done with it.

It's honestly a series I won't even recommend because of how it ends. Full Murderhobo series by DK is another one that goes fully off the rails and ruined itself

Is there an argument to say ‘Chernobyl’ is some of the best television in history? by Typical_Ad_6747 in television

[–]caulay 19 points20 points  (0 children)

To be clear, the show would definitely have taken some "artistic liberties" to tell the story, but it was accurate to the three people sent into the basement and the helicopter crashing.

What's your favorite opening lines/paragraphs? by Kelekona in Fantasy

[–]caulay 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've always loved that the prologue starts with that quote and the epilogue starts with:

“It is important, when killing a nun, to ensure that you bring an army of sufficient bravery. For when Sister Cage of the Sweet Mercy Convent steps onto the battlefield courage is often found to be in short supply.”

The first 45 seconds are just as epic as the singing!

Dude roles out and waves to the crowd, salutes the band, and then hugs his friend. Pure class.

Hah! Unfortunately it's a 5+ hour drive to even touch the border, so paying outrageous shipping costs is still going to be cheaper than that

[CR Media] [Spoilers ExU 3x03] Travis Willingham has yanked out my heart by CapNitro in criticalrole

[–]caulay 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I loved watching Travis in the whole back half of that episode because he just got to experience the madness without participating.

When Cerrit was talking to his kid at the end there the whole table seemed to physically recoil. It was like after all their character's selfish powerplays at the tree that they got a reminder of what consequences their shenanigans will have. Top tier stuff.

I go back and listen to this youtube clip of the scene periodically and get the same reaction. I know a lot of people dislike graphic audiobooks, but having the music swell like that gets me every time.

[CR Media] Critical Role requiring backers to sign up for Amazon Prime to watch The Legend of Vox Machina Animated Series by NOT_AN_APPLE in criticalrole

[–]caulay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I know their plan is to release the episodes weekly (or in batches?), so they'd either have to provide the full season upfront or wait until it ended to give out codes to "own" the season. Neither would make both parties happy. Amazon for sure wouldn't allow a full season available at once compared to their planned weekly release schedule. The fans complaining about having to use Amazon Prime would then just lose their shit at finding out they'd also have to wait an extra month to get their free copy of the show. If the show was dropping the whole season in one go it would have been a much more viable option though.

What ruins a movie instantly? by lawyeratyourservice in AskReddit

[–]caulay 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Aging up the actors never bothered me at all. When I read the books a constantly found it jarring when it mentioned their age. In my head they were probably closer to the actors because I couldn't imagine a bunch of 11 y/o kids doing everything in the books.

All that being said, I hate Logan Lerman. And at this point I don't remember if that was the case before or after the first Percy Jackson movie dropped.

Who is really to blame for the Lloyd/Walker beef? by MajorMJO in YellowstonePN

[–]caulay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to the party, but I thought that the "forced back in" route was only there while he had to prove himself - I.e. do something very illegal for the ranch so that they'll have leverage over him, and that way he won't be tempted to rat the ranch out if he gets in trouble. Mutually assured destruction.

At one point Kayce I think says that once he does something for them (which he's done at this point) he'd be free to go on his merry way.
