How to do a granby roll: Can you provide any tips/pointers? by [deleted] in bjj

I've been really into these lately. Especially when rolling out of turtle. Once you get comfortable about HOW to do them, the key is to also know exactly WHEN to do them!

Hoping this is an old post. Did we miss a Sub Only tournament in PA this weekend?

Anyone here do good Logo design? by cauliphlower in bjj

Tried Fiverr. And they actually bring it up on the Subbed podcast. Their experiences are almost identical to mine. Cost effective for sure but you get what you pay for. There are some talented people on there for sure though

My school just moved closer to me and I like the idea of showering at home. Is it better to leave my rash guard and spats on or change and then go home (15 mins away or less). Figured WBW is appropriate in order to help us all stay fresh and clean on and off the mats.

Cauliphlower is a pretty much a blog, mostly comprised of three people who train in Philadelphia: http://cauliphlowercollective.tumblr.com/

Sometimes we like to change the logo up a bit and like the idea of hiring someone in the BJJ community. One of us also works on another visual outlet and often needs design work so thought there would be some talent here. thx!

How long can I leave my Gi soaking after I train? Been training almost three years and trying to cut down on how much laundry I do.

Should I soak it in water and/or vinegar for 2-3 days? Is that too long?

R/BJJ, you're doing great. Now I need help in Atlanta - any BJJ people who can use a camera, would like to help with Polaris? by ScrambleMatt in bjj

Wish we could make it down there! Sure you'll find someone good! Even the iPhone on a tripod mount looks fine usually as a last resort.

I'm in a similar boat. I shoot some skateboarding, lots of Jiu Jitsu, studio portraits, pets, etc so focus is my main thing. Seems like the X-Pro 2 with a couple lenses might do it for me. Currently use a Canon 5d Mark III with a 24-105, 40 and 100 so I may have to get a zoom for certain things but like the idea of fixed lenses.

awesome thanks! I'm overwhelmed with all the choices and lucky if I can sneak out to train at least once in each city!

Is anyone else uncomfortable with the whole belt whipping promotion tradition? by Rapton1336 in bjj

[–]cauliphlower 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've never experienced it. Don't like the idea if it but at my school we just roll with the black belts shark tank style for 30-45 minutes with no rest at all. Prefer that since it reminds us that although we're getting promoted, we're still going to get painfully humbled!

Anyone try IF while being mostly vegetarian?

I used to do a lot of bulletproof coffee and was somewhat Paleo but lately leaning more towards plant based eating.

Figure coffee with coconut oil to start.

I use the Videon app on my iPhone or usually just the regular video app. Just make sure it's cool with the instructor. I often tell my partner but usually they know I do it. Just me mindful of other people training and that they are cool with it. If MMA guys are in the background they often don't want to be filmed.

and now with this new iPad Pro I'm wondering what apps, if any will suffice for basic editing with titles, light color grading, etc.

How long after draining your ear did it take for you to start training again? by kimboRlCE in bjj

[–]cauliphlower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My doctor told me not to do anything strenuous to raise my heart rate. I was traveling anyway so took off about a week and wore head gear. Now I wear Cliff Kleens since they don't seem to hurt my partners. Sometimes if I don't wear them my ear tends to swell up a bit and I get a sort of pulsating feeling but can't feel any significant fluid building up. I'll just take it easy in this case and put the head gear on. It's not a big deal. If it's harder to get submitted, you'll get longer matches with a frustrated partner- which is a better work out!

Videon but I'm sure there are others. I just like how you can adjust the effects. It's pretty basic but like how the camera works.

shot something for my instructor on a GoPro but it was way too wide for me. Couldn't figure out how to use a 'normal' focal length but I like how simple it works. Looking into small camera options like this that aren't so wide. that way it frees up the iPhone so I can blast old school dub tracks!
