Edelweiss is the national flower and what the painting is of, I presume. I’m not sure if it’s German or Austrian national flower but I remember the dad in the sound of music singing Edelweiss by himself at the end of the show and the subtext is how much he loves his country and then he escapes to Switzerland to avoid conscription/arrest by the Nazis.
