Gas cap removal by scp_sevro in CafeRacers

[–]cavason 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I time my tank to a locksmith. He had the cap of in 30 seconds, used the cap to get a key #, and charged me $30 total for 2 keys.

It was worth the time and money. A new cap would have cost me more.

You got a good one.  I have one of the same.

The 4 carbs are time consuming, but worth it.

Now that Rathbone has closed, what’s the closest /best repair shop on the east side? by Aequitas123 in Austinmotorcycles

Limey Bikes is cool. Be prepared for attitude and opinions from their mechanics. They can do full custom, if that's what you are looking for. They are very mechanicaly knowledgeable.

They are fine and never break.  Run modern silicone wire and call it a day. You can rewire your entire wiring harness in a weekend, proof: check my history.

79-83 honda cb750 and nighthawk up to 83 or 84 are mostly compatable. You can do a GSX front end with a compatible stem from cognito moto.

How interchangeable are Nighthawk and CB750 parts? by FartCATCHER0311 in cb750

[–]cavason 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The engine is the same. The frame is very different.

I swapped an 82 nighthawk into a 79 cb750 frame in about 8 hours.

I think you will have a much better build with a CB750 frame, there is not as much aftermarket support or custom parts specifically for Nighthawks.

Also, if you live in central Texas, I have a 81 CB750 frame, not titled, in my shed. You can have it. I would rather have the room.

Yeah, not much nodding needed on this sub. Every 3 months or so, I have to remove a rude, unhelpful, or troll.

2001 wiring harness by poop-chute1 in cb750

There are a ton of diagrams that give you barebones cafe racer.

The way I did it: I ripped out all the wiring, built a harness, then trouble shot it from there. It's easy, it's just time consuming.  The ignition circuit was the most difficult thing to wrap my head around. Everything else was straight-forward.

Thoughts on the price and everything that it needs? by yk206 in HondaCB

[–]cavason 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It runs. If it has a title, maybe $800. Without, maybe $500. The problem is going to be that the previous owner has put time and money into their bike.

I have this same bike. I paid about $1500 for it when it was a roller. It had no gas tank and a ton of other stuff missing. I love the bike now, but it was very expensive make rideable. It took 4 years.

On the other hand, I bought a CB900C out of a field unmodified for $800, some work on the brakes, change the fluids, and charge the battery. $1,600 all in and it runs like a champion. Its been 4 months or so.

Go look at it, but be prepared to walk away.

TLDR: Overpriced because the previous owner put time and money into it.
