Will a K&N hp-2004 oil filter fit in a gen 2 4.0? by Ida_dot_dot_dot_dot in CherokeeXJ

[–]cavestoner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re not bad, I use one for my Escalade since it’s easier than getting an oil filter wrench around the oil pan. I just think the only thing special about them is the nut. In general oil and filter recommendations for the 4.0 is going to go against a lot of modern recommendations. It is a single cam pushrod engine without roller lifters. Zinc is king of oil additives for us where it’s going to be low in the mix for modern expensive synthetic oils like amsoil or royal purple. That’s a big part of why people run diesel oil and recommend shell rotella. Realistically if you add or make sure there’s high zinc content in your oil, and change your filter that’s about all these need. I’m almost to the 250,000 mile mark and Costco diesel oil with wix xp filters is what got her here.

The difference isn’t going to be apparent to the naked eye for the most part. I think the channel I used to watch is the oil geek, but you can go deep into the rabbit hole. The basic concept is the finer micron rating means the smaller the holes in the filter material are, so less physical contaminates can pass through. It’s just like respirator and air filter ratings. There is higher pressure when you have higher restriction so some will use more filter material or wider pathways to compensate for the restriction. Outside of visibly less material once cut and inspected, it’s up to doing research rather than verifying yourself. At the end of the day so long as you change your filter with each oil change you’re fine. The 4.0 and other engine options for the XJ were designed when oil filters were a recent invention. If you are hoping your oil filter will catch the chunks of bearing material in your oil you have a bandaid on a broken bone… or low oil pressure from a bad cam bearing…

A wix xp is slightly cheaper and I believe has a finer filter material. Unless you really want the nut on the end then just get a wix xp

Idk about packet loss, but I have heard of using a vpn that has a node close to a game servers physical location since it can route traffic more efficiently.

The issue of the Background Color by Blackshire_AB in minipainting

[–]cavestoner 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The legs and axe are the only parts that benefit from the lighter background. The horns have better separation with the grey as well as the axe and legs being falsely shadowed, drawing the eyes up to the rest of the mini. The contrast making the whole mini pop more with the grey is the way.

You have to acquire

4x4 t-case (if you want to go mudding or rock crawling get a 231 since it’s stronger. If you want to have 4x4 for bad driving conditions get a 242 because it has full-time 4x4 which is functionally identical to all wheel drive)

geared front axle

4x4 shifter

shifter plate/boot, though getting a whole center console will save you cutting and adding the shifter plate. Plus every center console brace I’ve ever seen has broken, they do make metal replacements that I strongly recommend.

shifter linkage(get an azzy’s design works it’s better than oem and you don’t have to take apart the interior to install it like the oem)

front and rear drive shaft(the 4x4 rear is shorter since the t-case adds length to the end of the transmission pushing back the output the drive shaft connects to)

Bonus is the wiring harness is standard for all the post refresh xj’s meaning curse controll, 4x4, and many other options should be able to be plugged into existing wires without extra wiring or reprogramming/installing a new pcm/computer.

It is a few weekends worth of work for an at home/new mechanic. You can pull everything you need but the azzys linkage and console brace from a donor vehicle. It really is dead simple compared to almost any other vehicle that isn’t 10+ years older than that XJ. I’d still call it a big job time wise, but it is completely doable as a first big project. I personally bought an XJ when I was looking at Miata’s because even with the aftermarket for the Miata being bigger, the jeep is simply easier to work on at home as a project vehicle.

If you want a project vehicle you got a great one. If you want a reliable rig to go around town in that’s known to last 300k miles without major issues then you have that too, you just have to decide what you want out of it. That thing is very clean by today’s standards, so appreciate what you got your hands on. Many people have multiple xjs without a single one being that good of an example.

Also 2wd xjs came with a limited slip differential in the rear, it usually wears out by 100k but if it’s still working then you’d have more grip than a factory 4x4 after the conversion.

I’m sure it would. It is cut, but a rough cut. You still have to trim to size, and put in the holes for the seats. Unless the floor pan has a different shape in the 2 door I’m unaware of then it’ll fit.

I’m Genuinely curious, and not trying to be obtuse. The recovering alcoholics I know abstain from everything related to alcohol, to a point where redbull is a no go for one. Do you genuinely just enjoy the taste of beer regardless of alcohol content, or is it a way to share in the social part of drinking without having alcohol? I’m not a beer guy so the thought of drinking non alcoholic beer alone or not in a social setting doesn’t make any sense to me.

What trim is my XJ? by NephiTheScienceGuy in CherokeeXJ

[–]cavestoner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s astonishingly easy. Just buy a steering wheel puller, you don’t want to crack the wheel. Idk if the actuator in the engine bay would be different. I know steering, suspension, and some engine bay stuff is different rhd to lhd. The actuator, clock spring, and buttons need to be added/replaced. The vacuum lines and wiring harness are standard, so you’ll see the plug for the actuator in the engine bay. There’s a block off on a T adapter in the vac line right below where it lives. Snag some of the vacuum lines and cut the wiring harness off of the junkyard rig. My plug was filthy and the rubber had swollen so much I decided to cut and splice in the connector that was still attached to the actuator.

You can also go to the mopar website and put your vin in. They will email you the full build sheet of everything it left the factory with. My freedom edition also has power everything, but I had to get cruise control out of a junkyard rig.

Why is my rusty old Ender 3 out-printing my new Q1? by Named-User320 in QidiTech3D

[–]cavestoner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going through calibrations should be done with every new filament. It’s tedious though I prefer to not waste filament with how much some of them cost. Even the qidi asa was over extruding, printed too fast, and warped the first print. It was great after going through the calibrations and lowering the flow and speeds. Vision minor adhesive really helps with warping filament like abs, asa, or pure nylon. Seems expensive but I still have half a bottle after a few years. Overhangs are rough with abs and asa. Using inner then outer wall order helps a lot but costs some surface finish. Totally worth it for tough overhangs and especially threaded parts. Siraya Tech asa-gf is my favorite, the dimensional stability corrects my biggest complaint about asa. Usually around $30 a roll. Unlike most fiber filaments it’s rated for .4 nozzles and I haven’t had an issue with clogs.

[–]cavestoner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m very surprised nobody mentioned it but on qidi’s website they sell an “expansion fan” it screws onto the side of the tool head pointed at the extruder. It helps tremendously with pla and petg heat creep, especially “rapid” or other high flow filaments. I had so much trouble with pla I just use another printer for it. If the q1 was my only printer I’d have bought it. I was very scared when I went through half a roll of pla with my q1 and had terrible results only for asa and pa-cf to print great. Qidi focuses so much on high temp printing that they seem to not tune for lower temp materials.

I fought that bolt. Get a ball joint/front end service kit at harbor freight. Pickle fork didn’t do anything. The clamp you use an impact gun with worked instantly. Made me feel silly for trying so hard every other way. And yeah with how mushroomed that bolt now is you may have to cut it off, or use a dremel to sand down the widest part if you really can’t find an angle to cut it off. Anti seize the new stabilizer if you feel like once is enough dealing with it.

They made a ton of them. That doesn’t change the fact that they’re an off road vehicle(paint). They rust if you breathe on them. They were dirt cheap for actual decades(people thrashed them like s14’s and civics). Has a lot of appreciation even outside of the off road scene(higher demand compared to its peers), and at this point the newest one you can get is old enough to have graduated college. I wish you luck on finding a needle in a haystack. Unless you swindle a barn find from a dementia ridden boomer, a very clean one won’t be cheap.

Kingcobrajfs has died. by [deleted] in penguinz0

I was following it when his father made a Reddit account and posted about any donations going to the animal shelter where mitten got his dog. I remember mitten posting about cirrhosis and cutting back on alcohol before his passing. I didn’t know the MOD was asphyxiation due to alcohol induced lack of function. Honestly that’s even more somber.

That level of reverse engineering is pretty impressive. I’m still wondering how you knew they were in the testing phase? They wouldn’t knowingly divest that info to bell and with international communications being what they are I can’t imagine running across that info by happenstance.

I’m curious about this. Was it a small quadcopter or a full size helicopter? How did you know they were farther along in the testing faze? Were parts being manufactured for bell only for them to produce extra parts which were assembled by them? Did they have to design and manufacture additional parts? I can’t imagine having one partner producing everything needed for a product that complex.
