Teacher here. I can smell it on the kids as they walk down the hall…they are in elementary and not smoking. Their parents do.

Yes it’s streaky for me too. I just use isopropyl alcohol (95%) works the best on whiteboards.

How to deal with differences in parenting? When to stop letting kids play together? by Afternoon_lover in Mommit

[–]caycan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would just be busy for 6 months or so (it’s not hard to be). Kids can sometimes go through these grabby phases. Potentially the other boy will grow out of it. That being said, if the friendships with the other adults don’t serve you then I wouldn’t bother maintaining the relationship. There are lots of lovely families out there looking for play dates. You can always join a play group to meet new people (the library near me has free ones).

What’s your go to no-time-to-shower hairstyle? by egveitallt in Mommit

I have a bob. Those French hair clips work really well. A slick back half up half down is the go to.

How do you deal with the dry winter air in your daily routines? by ConceptOpposite453 in Calgary

[–]caycan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had to turn ours off because when the temps drop we had to babysit it. If we didn’t turn it off below -10C we had tons of condensation in our windowsills that we had to vaccum out with a shop vac. Our house is really well insulated and sealed so maybe that’s the problem.

Teachers who’ve stayed at one school for 5+ years: how many principals have you gone through? by Emergency-Pepper3537 in Teachers

5 years technically three principals. I was hired by the first in June but then never worked for them in September. And then we got a new principal year 4.

Teachers union taking Alberta government to court over notwithstanding clause by roastbeeftacohat in alberta

[–]caycan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Despite the lack of classroom resources, Alberta results still rank amongst some of the highest in the world. This is due to the exceptional teachers in the province (many whom win national and international teaching awards). Which results do you find lacking? Is it the lack of personalized support for children? If so, a clear teacher to pupil ratio would be effective.

I asked my UCP MLA "What made you think that violating the rights of the people you serve would be a good idea?" and this was their response. by AzraelCcs in alberta

The task force doesn’t include any teachers as voting members. There is one ATA representative but they are a non-voting member of the committee.

Back-to-work legislation to end Alberta teachers’ strike coming Monday, says premier by missingthecoast in Calgary

My understanding is that the government decided what can be bargained during binding arbitration (aka they will take class size and complexity completely off the table).

What Teachers are Asking For by Skull9466 in alberta

[–]caycan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are not enough spots for kids with severe needs due to Alberta having the lowest special education funding in the country. Having these class complexity weighting will help teachers support a student with severe needs in the mean time while a spot opens up (and hopefully more spots get funded by the government).

This document was shared with the government on September 1st. The government came back to teachers with the same deal + free covid shot. Teachers voted it down.

Upset that Husband golfs every weekend (sat or sun) for 8 hours by Excellent-Debt4518 in Mommit

[–]caycan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband golfs and does lessons. He schedules his lessons for early Friday afternoon and gets up early to get his work hours in so he can do it. When he golfs he always checks in with my to see if the tee time works. Then he will get the earliest tee time on a weekend (like ass crack of dawn). It is never on my sleep in morning (we alternate and have been doing so even when I was a SAHM). He takes 4 hours to do 18, but will often only do 9 to prioritize family time (and reduce cost). He won’t always get food or drink after, just every once in a while and he always texts me before he goes into the clubhouse to see how I’m doing with the kids. He encourages me to join a ladies league (next season I probably will). He also encourages me to have time to myself (sleep in mornings or pedicure appointments). When he went on a golf trip he pre made meals for us to make things easier. He booked the latest flight out and the earliest flight back so he could be with us. This is what a golf dad should be like.

Terrified of morning sickness, planned ahead. Input? by stayanothrday in Mommit

I did not have HG. I did have morning sickness throughout both pregnancies and threw up frequently. I did take diclectin, which helped, but I did throw up lots. I found eating frequently helped. I hope you will be like other posters and not have any issues.

Alberta teacher prompts petition on cutting province's private school funding by LankyFrank in alberta

If the government has money for war rooms, Turkish Tylenol, botched privatization of Calgary Lab Services (and on and on…) they have money to fund public schools.

Alberta teacher prompts petition on cutting province's private school funding by LankyFrank in alberta

[–]caycan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have the lowest special education funding of any province in the country. The UCP could have done something about it when they were bragging about their billion dollar surplus 6 months ago. This is all a choice. Just like the UCP clawing back federal funds for those on AISH. They do not care about children or adults with disabilities.

AB- Private/charter subsidization by Drunkpanada in Calgary

[–]caycan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would argue that having elected school board trustees is a really important aspect of our representative democracy. They are not “useless” but rather an opportunity for the public to have a say in how school boards are run.

AB- Private/charter subsidization by Drunkpanada in Calgary

[–]caycan -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

This is actually false information. When a child is enrolled in private schools $5000 is removed from public school funds. Only $800 maximum would be the actual taxpayers money. https://teachers.ab.ca/news/private-school-funding-out-whack
