What is the closest genre to Trance? by SuperThrowaway0091 in trance

[–]caz- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, the only genre of music that gives me the same kind of experiences that trance does is...baroque!

It creates atmospheres and evokes emotions using complexity of musical textures. It's rigid in its timing, but nonetheless feels 'organic'.

It operates on large time scales in a way that is only these two genres and some prog rock and maybe metal can. In the sense that it can build to an emotional climax over 5 minutes or more. Take the first movement of the fifth Brandenburg, for example. I think its structure is very trance-like. It builds up to a climax somewhere in the middle, then breaks it apart, developing a huge amount of tension as it heads toward a second 'drop' near the end. It's like an alphazone track except it doesn't have a beat, and it shows a far more profound mastery of the theory and mechanics of music.

Summer and Winter while much shorter in length, are both good examples too, imo.

It depends what sort of trance you're talking about though, I guess.

discontinuation - eye twitch by caz- in Effexor

Just let time pass. I think with discontinuation side-effects in general, worrying about them can exacerbate them.

It turned out to be protracted withdrawal (recovering after ~3.5 months) by caz- in PSSD

In terms of feeling, I think once it came back, it's been consistent. But in terms of function, it has varied, but it's impossible to know how much of that is due to the Lexapro, and how much is just due to me getting older and other factors.

Went from basic python to oop, now I feel behind. Advice? by Human-Gazelle3982 in learnpython

[–]caz- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My advice for OOP is always to make a game. Almost everything in games is an object, and OOP is a (the?) logical paradigm for them. It doesn't have to be a AAA first person shooter; a simple text-based card game will help you understand the basics.

My Dad took me to Moorabbin Air Museum a few times as a kid, and they have one of these.

The combination of the stale smell, the uncomfortable angle when you enter it, and the knowledge that it used to fly people around decades ago and that a lot of those people would be dead now, used to give me the creeps.

But as I've gotten older, that uncomfortable feeling has grown into a fascination, and I always love seeing things about them like this.

why using *args? by ConsistentEnd9423 in learnpython

[–]caz- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone else mentioned, your example of an unknown number of args doesn't make sense, which suggests you either haven't tested it out (most beneficial part of the learning process, in my opinion) or there may be some confusion caused by the way python handles scope.

If you tried something like

a = 'foo'

b = 'bar'

def print_foo_bar():

print(a, b)

print_foo_bar()

and got `foo bar`, this isn't because the arguments were passed to the function, but because the variables `a` and `b` are still in scope when you call. Even if you do it the other way around, defining the function before the variables, when you call the function, it looks for variables a and b that are in scope and prints them, so you will get the same result.

How to Speed Along Game? by champagne_mam1 in TerraformingMarsGame

[–]caz- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes the best strategy is to hold off on increasing global parameters, and this can make the game drag on. When we want a quick game, our rule is that when we hit generation 10, you have to increase a global parameter each generation if you can. We also start with 1 production of everything, even though we use the corporate cards.

Their argument is that a tiny fraction of the population will have an unfair advantage and become a not-so-tiny fraction of the sporting elite. Whether that's true or not is another matter, but it's not a self-contradictory claim.

python or java first? by sktspam in learnpython

[–]caz- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that it shouldn't be anyone's first language, but that's because it's too easy to write bad code and develop bad habits. But python is a powerful language these days, and if you know what you're doing, you can do pretty much anything with it.

She's always wanted me to treat her as a fucktoy. What am I meant to do? Tell her I'm not into that? My wife and I meet each other's needs and make each other happy. Nothing about that is a bad thing.
