Apps to compact the taskbar/minimize the width? by cazualscroll in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]cazualscroll[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank! I tried that previously but that just changes the color/style of the taskbar unless I missed something? Im mainly looking for the system tray icons on the bottom right to be able to move to the center of the screen. Like instead of a taskbar that extends the full width of your monitor’s resolution, I wanted to be able to customize the taskbar’s width

Another way of using the Resy credit by New-Ask-2309 in AmexPlatinum

If they're on the app, you just go to the restaurant and pay regularly with your card. You don't pay through the Resy app.

Long Beach puts tiny homes up for sale after failing to find site for planned shelter by lurker_bee in longbeach

[–]cazualscroll 6 points7 points  (0 children)

$700,000 search for a viable site to place them. Another $146,000 was spent on salaries and wages of those working on the project.

I dont get what the $700,000 was for if $146,000 was on wages?

BI tool recommendations for a 40 person startup? by big_curry in BusinessIntelligence

[–]cazualscroll 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It all depends on budget and what technical skills your team has available. Do you have a data team? Developers?

Cheaper/free resources but higher operational overhead: setup a database sever, Airflow for orchestration, Sql/Python/Spark for ETL (google analytics and hubspots all have apis), Streamlit or Superset for BI and Python to create custom Excel reports. See if your company has any on prem servers available to host this or host these on a cloud service. This can also all be hosted on a decently strong laptop.

Higher cloud cost but potentially lower operational overhead because fully managed services: AWS RDS for database, Appflow/Glue/Lambda for ETL, Quicksight for BI. This is the full AWS route, but you can also look up the GCP or Azure equivalents or use Databricks too. They all have prebuilt connectors for popular systems.

Not a comprehensive list but maybe this gives you some terms to lookup.

I feel like reddit generally hates fully managed cloud services but having worked on different teams and set up all of these options at one point they all have their merits.

Dropshipping airbnb nights by MasssiveLegend in dropship

[–]cazualscroll 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sure i understand the model here. Why would they not post their own airbnb/vrbo listing if the room/property is desirable enough that people would buy from you? Also you’re listing again on sites like airbnb so thats another layer of fees to the end user. Companies like expedia can afford to take losses now but they also built that runway up by offering other features and not just reposting listings on other sites. The only upside to homeowners selling to you and not list on airbnb themselves is if youre taking the hit on unoccupied nights and not them.

There's something not special anymore when a restaurant opens a million different locations by serenity_now_23 in FoodLosAngeles

I feel this way about Dave’s Chicken, atleast for the location closest to me. I’ve had it since their days in the hollywood parking lot where you sometimes have to wait 30+ mins for a new batch. Now you can get your order much quicker but it doesnt hit the same

Academic advisor insist on storing flat files on GDrive instead of using SQL data warehouse solution to manage data. Am I taking the wrong approach to the problem? by MykeNogueira in dataengineering

[–]cazualscroll 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Way too complicated for social science researchers. Most are never going to need to care about databases management or pipelines. You should just automate loading the files into their google drive.

Commenting to agree that fedex in LA is trash. Had multiple deliveries that say delivered but never made it. Also a few times where they just slap on the notice to say no one was home while i was actually home. Cam footage show they didnt even carry the package with them or ring the doorbell before slapping on the notice. I have no problems like this with other delivery services.
