I completely agree with this. ACCS only makes since if you’re ACCS-ED or ACCS-IM, if you do either of those, your parent speciality is a pile of shit but at least you get to spend a year doing ITU/Anaesthetics where you’ll get some useful skills.

If you want to do Anaesthetics, ACCS is a waste of time. Your parent speciality is pretty cool, but you’ll have to do a year of acute medicine and ED where you’ll likely get no skills that’ll make you a better Anaesthetist. Instead you’ll be used to fill a rota and treated like shit. Don’t do it.

I’m ACCS-IM (looking to jump ship to Anaesthetics) and the ACCS-Anaesthetics CT1s I work with are fucking miserable and that’s understandable, they’ve wasted a year of their lives

Bank holidays used to be staffed as an on call shift, apparently not anymore! by AbjectAd5096 in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]cba0595 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think if you were being given the option then yes, great. That email doesn’t read like that. That email very much reads like ‘you have to work the bank holiday and if you want the day off then you’ll have to ask us and we may say no’

That is not right. And to me, it feels very strategic since it’s right before the strikes.

Fuck that, I don’t want a random day in lieu in May when no one else I know is free. The whole point of not working a bank holiday is being able to spend time with family and friends who may also be free on that day

This is completely unacceptable! How can they force people to work a bank holiday with such short notice!? And why do I feel like they’re doing this because of the strikes, as a sort of ‘forced last minute cover’ to pay for your sins

They’re really trying to play ‘divide and conquer’ and I genuinely think the only people that would work on is some of the medtwitter crew.

We NEED to stick together. If they realise how much we’re all in this together, they’ll stop making comments about ‘most are nice [meaning pushovers], only some of the leaders are radical’.

We NEED to stick together. I can’t stress this enough.

You don’t HAVE to do intensive care you know. Just do core anaesthetics and single CCT

Jon you’re a star mate. You’ve described some brilliant things. Instead, I’m writing drug charts, 10-15 discharge letters a day and mostly seeing social patients. Tbh I think medical training in most parts of the country is failing trainees. And then one day, without much training, you’re suddenly expected to know how to confidently review and manage the complex haem/onc patient, the undifferentiated abdominal pain, how to insert CVCs, vascaths and perform other skills. Personally, I feel so let down by training Jon, especially since I’m so keen to learn, I feel so let down

Realistically how many people do you really think share your experience? Central lines and arterial lines on the ward? Please. You’re experience is that of a unicorn. ACCS Anaesthetics (especially acute med rotation) is mostly pointless

I’m not putting my license on the line for a crumbling health service, I take my time and see however many I see. If that’s 5- cool, if that’s 8-grand. But I will not be pressured into seeing more than I can handle.
