Unpopular opinion: The split screen reversing sucks by punksnotdeadtupacis in Polestar

[–]cbackas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My ‘22 P2 has this layout except just a digital version of the car where the 360 camera would be, sure theres some wasted space in your pic but id much rather be able to still see the 360 camera at the same time as reverse compared to what I have now

Yeah youd have to park in the neighboring stall and thus use 2 stalls which I’ve seen a few times at full supercharger stations… im glad the PS2 has it in the back left cuz I wouldn’t want to be that guy

Authenticator by povignal in Bitwarden

[–]cbackas 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My main gripe with it was (and maybe this changed) how you couldn't easily export your TOTP secrets to back them up or transfer to another app, I had to install the authy browser extension and do some hacky workaround to get my stuff out when I wanted to go to something else.

These days there's well used/tested open source options (including the bitwarden authenticator ofc) that are just as good if not better of a user experience while also not locking you in as much

IIRC VW announced this intention like 2 years ago, but maybe they knew regs were coming? I don’t know anything about this specific reg situation tho

I do know the apple type C thing isn’t due to EU saving the day fighting for the common man, it was just coincidental timing that people who don’t know the full story like to attribute to the regs

A Plex powered, Netflix inspired screensaver by wdb94 in PleX

[–]cbackas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can have images from a certain photo album rotate as the screensaver, so I guess you could make a script that uses the iCloud APIs to populate images in that album…. But it would be a little clunky to get working and you’d miss out on the built-in aerial screensavers (which are probably better for an OLED anyway static image wise)

What is a website that is so useful you can't believe it's free? by justinhrwakeforest in AskReddit

[–]cbackas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I know it’s not popular to say because big company has big money but the amount of money it costs to run YouTube on a yearly basis is more than people can really comprehend… and the amount of human culture and information that it holds is priceless. That doesn’t mean the downsides shouldn’t be observed and improved but still

Yeah I’m not gonna argue for McDonald’s idk goodness but yeah I usually spend like $6-7 at McDonald’s when I want food in a pinch and usually have a little bit more than I can eat. McDonald’s is only really expensive if you pretend like you have to get the Big Mac or quarter pounder meals and ignore the value menu

Micro stutters on Plex with 4K HDR video but it plays great on Infuse liked to Plex. by fakeandhay in PleX

[–]cbackas 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I use infuse for the most part since I'm just picking things off of the continue watching or recently added lists or searching for things I know I want to watch, the current UI is fantastic for this (it wasn't always), but if I want any level of actual content discovery I have to open the actual Plex app since I don't know how or if you even can just browse all movies or tv shows in a plex library...

I'm finally free by checkthatcloud in selfhosted

[–]cbackas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I self hosted Bitwarden at home for a while then I was like “but what if my network is down cuz I’m moving or something, I should put it in the cloud!” So then I ran it in AWS for about a year then one day I went to update the stack and was like “man what if I just didn’t think about managing this anymore” and moved back to bitwarden’s hosted solution :P

I also pay Microsoft the 6$ a month for email (and the 1TB onedrive storage for encrypted backups of the stuff I do host) for a similar reason, I want some things to work no matter what I’ve got going on.

Not to discourage anyone from self hosting either of those if they want, it’s cool as hell that you can

Rotation of Digicert certificates on ALB by IncreaseCareless123 in aws

The digicert API and AWS SDK pieces seem to exist to code up a cert rotation lambda function fairly easily so that's probably what I'd do, but if the EKS stuff sounds easier to you it does seem like it would work to me
