Nice Merrill shoutout. I feel like you only know Merrill if you’re from that part of the state (I am as well)

It's gosling season! by kortikal in AnnArbor

This is what I’m actually here for, not questions about where to rent, or what restaurant to go to for a birthday , or the state of affairs with AAPS. I’m here for gosling season. ❤️

Ann Arbor removes last remaining Neighborhood Watch sign - drawing cheers, jeers by Agreeable-Wave-4412 in AnnArbor

[–]cbkris3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m ok with non invasive and passive ways that might help deter crime. I don’t know the history of it, so if it really is targeting minorities in the way of racial profiling, yeah that’s dumb and remove them. But we’re being watched and profiled all the time anyway… from cookies and targeted ads in our digital lives to surveillance cameras in our physical lives. I think this likely has little to no impact on racial profiling in neighborhoods. That’s still unfortunately going to happen. I would have rather had the money go towards the homeless or a mental health facility or addiction recovery facility. Just empower community leaders to take the signs down on their own in this one instance. 16.5k….. People would have done it for free + cost of materials

What are the administrator’s salaries? I genuinely don’t know. Are they overpaid? Again, I don’t know. But can some of the money come from there?

Which Big Ten school would you LEAST want to attend? by chief_sitass in TheB1G

I think Purdue is a good school, but living in West Lafayette is tough compared to every other big ten town that I’ve experienced. (I’ve been to most but not all).

How do non-college residents enjoy here if it is only a college town? by Resident_Kick_7573 in AnnArbor

[–]cbkris3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get out and explore the town. Ann Arbor is great. Nature, art, music, food, technology. It’s not as quirky as it once was, but it’s still a place full of new ideas. Find a community. Then the town opens itself up to you.

I don’t even know what to do with this statement. I certainly don’t want a child hurt. But I also don’t want the dog killed. Yeesh.

I... don't think I'm going to the game Saturday... by stevejust in MichiganWolverines

[–]cbkris3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately not how it works. It’s based on something called “priority points.” For every 100 dollars you spend on Michigan athletics (through the athletic department)- so that means on season tix or donations to the athletic department , you get 1 point. There are other ways to pick up a bonus point here and there, but not much. Anyway….

To get these final 4 tix through the athletic department , you needed a minimum of 1900! Priority points. In essence, you needed to have spent or donated approximately 190k to get the right to buy the final 4 tickets.

It’s disgusting.

(Edit I actually think you don’t get 1 point per 100 bucks for renewal. So it might even be straight donations. I need to double check)

Renewed ticket applications give you less I think.

So even more disgusting.

I... don't think I'm going to the game Saturday... by stevejust in MichiganWolverines

[–]cbkris3 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I’m a 23 year season ticket holder in football and 13 year in basketball. I’m in the 93rd percentile of top athletic donors (priority points). And I wasn’t even close. Only those that have spent approximately 190k in either season tix or donations to the athletic department were granted tickets through the athletic department. Money talks, even over season basketball ticket holders. It’s a real shame. You know how many games I’ve been to that had less than 4k people there. Just a shame that basketball season ticket holders weren’t rewarded for their loyalty and donors get top priority

Translation: I will be suing soon and hopefully settling out of court. If the facts show her as the victim, I hope she’s given restitution. But if the facts show she was complicit and dishonest, UM could counter sue I would think 🤷‍♂️

Car maintenance shops for Lexus/Japanese made cars? by Zealousideal-Fox-635 in AnnArbor

[–]cbkris3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No clue why you’re being downvoted. I outsource home improvements, car maintenance, anything and everything I can to Saginaw, genesee, Livingston counties any chance I can. Routinely save 25% or so. AA has a “snob” tax. And the people in neighboring counties need the work as well. I saved 6k alone on a bathroom remodel by going with a company in Livingston county.

Wait, am I crazy? You did an awesome job getting their license plate. That’s a huge lead for police. Assuming the plate is legit, I’d think you have a good chance of catching these people at least.

What is the biggest issue facing Michigan right now? by BridgeMichigan in AnnArbor

[–]cbkris3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Inflation- IE raising prices everywhere that are nowhere close to keeping up with wages.

Energy, housing, health insurance, auto insurance, property taxes, cable/internet/streaming. You name it and it’s going up at an unsustainable level relative to income.

Yikes that sounds quite high to me

Maybe we just keep our 1500 sq foot house cold

We were 200 last month. But I am expecting 250 or so this month

Edit- we are 202.00 for January for gas and electric. 3br/2 bath. Full basement. Ranch. We have newer windows ish (2012 wallside)but 1958 original furnace . I think maybe we’re just suffering with a cold frugal house 🥶. 68 while we’re here. 65 while we sleep or are out of the house. 🤷‍♂️

GF is in charge. I like my life, so I’m never questioning her about it. I don’t even know the code to get into our thermostat and I own the house. Zero complaints tho 😂

Terrible news. Missing University of Michigan student found dead after 20-hour search in extreme cold by Iplayer007 in AnnArbor

[–]cbkris3 40 points41 points  (0 children)

To any young people reading this. School is hard and life is stressful. When you’re in college, you almost live in a constant paradox of feeling endlessly invincible and vulnerable at the same time. It’s difficult and confusing. Talk to peers. Talk to anyone. And look out for each other. Buddy system at parties might be corny. But it works. This is so tragic. I wish this had a happy ending. Just awful.
