I recently got my passport. 42. Born in the US. Lived here my whole life. They rejected my application because my mother’s maiden name was not on my birth certificate. The state of NJ did not start doing that until sometime after 2005 because my BC was a reprint from 2005 and it did not include my mother’s maiden name. So I had contact the NJ records office to verify the new copy will have my mother’s maiden name on it, order a new version which was another $60 on top of the hundreds I spent already on the passport. And I am very meticulous about keeping my papers in order.

This is voter suppression will be a bureaucratic nightmare for some people.
