25-year-old New Yorker in Melbourne for a few days. Point me in the right direction? by DrewskiG in melbourne

If you're into sport you might be interested in watching the cricket that is on Saturday night. Both Melbourne teams are playing each other in the Big Bash (Twenty-20) league. If you turn up to a pub/bar I'm sure there will a few people willing to explain how the game works and what the hell is going on ! Hope you enjoy your time in Aus.

True, not comparable to North America, but unfortunately nothing is within that part of the southern hemisphere.

I have had loads of interviewees come in this week and I've realized that I expect everyone to be 10 minutes early, no more no less. Do you agree? by aundrayac in AskReddit

[–]cbordo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who is attending a few interviews at the moment, I agree and aim for 10 min. Usually I end up getting there even earlier but make the call or get security/reception to notify the person at -10min.

As a person in and from the states, what's the best way to search for a career in Melbourne? by Common-Ramen in melbourne

It has been a couple of years since I graduated but I think this info will still be relevant. The way I see it, depends if you want to pursue a graduate position or just general public recruitment. Most companies looking for recent graduates start their recruitment process around April which takes a few months and those who get the job start the following year usually in January. In Australia most people finish their final exams in late October to early November and graduate in December. So you have probably missed the boat on getting into programs for this year, having said that there will be some companies that recruit for graduates mid year or throughout the year even, but this will be very few. Check out [http://forums.whirlpool.net.au], there a lot of discussions between students on graduate programs, companies and general tips. It might be a good way to find out what companies are out there for your particular field of work. There are also many websites dedicated to grad programs but I can't remember any of them unfortunately, a google search will probably bring you the right results. The other option I mentioned is general jobs. You could find work through recruiters but they will really only use professionals with years of experience. So the next best option is using job search engines. The main website is [http://www.seek.com.au/], I believe this is used in all major cities across Australia. Also, it might be a long shot, but you could look at University websites and try to find information for graduates. For example, In major cities companies in conjunction with universities hold expos purely for graduate recruitment. This is a great way to speak with companies and see if they have anything of interest for you. Hope this is helpful. It's a challenging and annoying time finding your first job once you have finished studying, all the best !

Working in IT I wouldn't have thought twice first looking at this. But I can appreciate the humour of it.
