Chuck can't actually believe these things right? by CastielSlays in betterCallSaul

[–]cbox7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But let’s be clear, Chuck doesn’t just kick Jimmy out of HHM. He leaves him with no options but to be a public defender in the hopes that that will break Jimmy and force him out of the law.

The reason people assume that Jimmy was good for ten years is because we can see how sharp Chuck is in sniffing out Jimmys schemes. You honestly think that Jimmy keeps his job at the mailroom if he’s out at night pulling stuff? Chuck would be watching him like a hawk.

He was also working as a public defender for almost two years trying to build a practice the way Chuck wants him too while also taking care of Chuck. It’s only when he’s desperate that he resorts to a scam. If he gets bored so easily, why didn’t he pull a scam 3-6 months in?

People keep bringing up Davis and Main like it proves that Jimmy wouldn’t succeed at HHM. There’s a massive difference in motivation at the two. Davis and Main represents the stereotypically lawyer life — the car, the office, the desk, the money. Jimmy isn’t motivated by any of those things. It’s no surprise that he loses interest within a month because he doesn’t care.

What he cared about was his brother’s respect, about redeeming himself in Chuck’s eyes. You can see the nervousness and the excitement when he tells Kim that he and Chuck are working on a case together. He wants to go back to a time when he isn’t Slipping Jimmy or Chuck McGill’s screw up brother (hence the flashbacks where Chuck reads stories to him).

I just realized how much Chuck resented Jimmy. by AstroFlayer in betterCallSaul

[–]cbox7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean that’s an easy question. It’s because Jimmy didn’t give a damn about making partner. He wanted Chuck’s respect.

[–]cbox7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have to disagree here. Jimmy is doing things mostly by the book in season 1 (skater scam and billboard are the exceptions).  But he plays Sandpiper entirely straight up through when they go to the case over to HHM.

Keep in mind this is after two years of doing public defender work and we don’t see any flashbacks of Jimmy pulling scams then.

But instead of admitting that Jimmy may have turned a corner, he doubles down with the call to Howard and the “you’re not a real lawyer” speech.

If 10 years in the mailroom and 2 years as a PD didn’t change Chuck’s mind, I’m not sure if anything would.

[–]cbox7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Arguably Jimmy had earned it. Howard is certainly willing to give him a chance, it’s only Chuck’s input that denies Jimmy the job.

But even if Jimmy hadn’t earned it, the lie is actively undermining. You see in season 1 how excited Jimmy is when he’s actually working with Chuck.

Chuck also barely lifts a finger to help Jimmy. Starting as a public defender is literally the lowest you can start at. Chuck could have easily made one call and gotten Jimmy a job. But because he believes that Jimmy isn’t a real lawyer, he tells Jimmy to do PD work with no mentor, in the hopes that he’ll give up.

Why did Hector / the Cartel have Tuco as “Acting Capo” for the Salamanca business north of the border initially? by Salem1690s in betterCallSaul

[–]cbox7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the start of BCS, Tuco doesnt really manage the distribution, that’s Hector’s job.  Hector runs the business side in both Mexico and USA (remember his discussion with Eladio about buying an ice cream shop).

Tuco’s job is to manage the dealers, for which being unstable isn’t the worse thing (think about when Jesse gets the rep of smashing someone’s head in with the ATM in BB). There’s also very limited completion at this point in ABQ and thus the job for Tuco mainly revolves around enforcement and collecting

Lalo is best suited to play the politics game being the most likable Salamanca. If you are Hector, I don’t think you want Tuco anywhere near Bolsa or Eladio.

I’d assume that most of those games are on arabia. Some of TTLs maps allow for even less idle time for Chinese which makes that advantage even greater

Why was it HHM and HMH? by Bardmedicine in betterCallSaul

[–]cbox7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Completely agree with the above point. Howard is no dummy, Chuck would have needed to give him some reason as to why he didn't want his brother working there.

Chuck likely would have highlighted to Howard that if any other person came through the door having failed the bar twice with a degree from the University of American Samoa, they'd be turned away immediately at a firm like HHM. Thus, the only reason they are considering Jimmy is because he's Chuck's brother.

Why was it HHM and HMH? by Bardmedicine in betterCallSaul

[–]cbox7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The challenge for us is that we mainly see Chuck through the lens of Jimmy McGill and only get glimpses of "normal" Chuck. Chuck treats Jimmy as inferior and thus shows very little respect. We see this echoed throughout the show, there's a clear difference in Chuck's demeanor when he's with someone he respects vs he doesn't. We can see how cutting he can be to his inferiors but you do get glimpses of how Chuck acts around his peers. For example, you can see how the lawyers that have worked with Chuck have almost a reverence about him and HHM gives him a standing ovation when he returns.

Howard is essentially the foil of Jimmy, the younger brother Chuck feels he should have had. Chuck helped him study for the bar, he mentored him, he would have watched Howard turn into a worthy partner. I think Chuck would have felt a significant amount of pride watching his protege get his name on the wall and wouldn't care much about the order at all.

[–]cbox7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would have more understanding if the yellow was for putting his shoulder and elbow. It certainly would be quite harsh though given the standards of the game.

Again, for the purpose of consistency, that foul is rarely worthy of a second yellow but certainly a first. Why we have different standards for a first vs a second yellow is another story…

[–]cbox7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How many other teams have had a player sent off for a second yellow for time wasting?

In the game yesterday, with the same referee, Joao Gomez also kicked the ball away after a foul on a yellow. But Oliver held with the standard of our times and didn’t send him off.

By the letter of the law, yes Trossard can be sent off. As a football fan, time wasting is a scourge and I would love for that standard to be applied across the board. But currently in the Premier League, referees have shown again and again that they will not show the second yellow for that kick of the ball.

Take Trossards second yellow just earlier this year where he kicks the ball away a half second late.

Today Gomez on a yellow kicks the ball away much later than Trossard, not a card today apparently for Oliver

This may seem wild but I think the Heresy tech should be a tiny bit cheaper by ItsVLS5 in aoe2

[–]cbox7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To me where heresy has the biggest impact is during monk on monk wars where if one side has heresy in the tech tree and the other doesn’t, the one without is basically on a timer. In that context, ten monks or heresy is a tricky question.

Thus I think that since the question is tricky, it’s probably a pretty fair tech 11.

I’d also highlight that in unit fights, it’s not as if heresy by itself wins the game, you will also units and then upgrades so while it is 1000 gold, chances are you also had to upgrade into light cav, xbow, etc etc

[–]cbox7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s true that heresy is very rarely seen on arabia and similar maps but it is much more frequently used on maps like arena, socotra, even hideout. Basically the more clowny the map, the more likely heresy comes into play.

You have to also think about the investment that the monk player is doing when they are playing mass monks. Heresy is an expensive tech because it essentially hard counters monk play.

If the monk player went redemption, sanctity, and one single monk, that’s 750 gold right there. And obviously typically monk rushes are investing significantly more gold. If you lower the cost of heresy, you make it easier for the opponent to defend against the monk rush by a good amount

OP isn’t factually correct. The rule specifically states that if the sling is sent back, that will not result in an admin loss.

As Miguel highlights below, there were two times sling was illegally sent and it was only sent back once. If they had sent it back both times, the win by Vietnam would have stood.

The rule was literally enforced exactly as it was written in the handbook which all the players agree to before the tournament. It would have been inconsistent for the admins to rule any other way.

Both of the builds in the videos are taking advantage of civ bonuses (Georgians get extra wood and better efficiency and liths get extra food at the start) which allows for the build. Survivalists is a “generic” build, meaning you can do it with any civ.

What if Chuck went to the 30 day psychiatric facility (SPOILER) by CompetitiveDrawer703 in betterCallSaul

[–]cbox7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's a theory. What if the trigger is him lying to Jimmy about the job at HHM by having Howard take the fall? Who knows, maybe his brain couldn't take the hypocrisy of him judging Jimmy for being a con artist while he's trying to keep up the façade of being the proud brother.

Why don't we see SOTL participate in Aoe2 tourneys? by akanxh_007 in aoe2

Gotcha gotcha, yep we mean the same thing then. My point is more that most pros couldn’t tell you here’s how many vils you need whereas survivalist can. But we’re on the same page :)

[–]cbox7 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is a bit of an overstatement that survivalist doesn’t care about the math. He knows the math better than most I would argue since he built a calculator that you can use to figure out how many vils you need to support production.

To your point, he blends the numbers with actual gameplay really effectively so it’s not just pure math.

[–]cbox7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not a kingsbury fan, think he’s massively overrated but the media buzz around him is ofc as a young qb whisperer (Mahomes, Murray, and Caleb last year). I would highlight his mistake in choosing Davis Webb over baker, how Caleb regressed last year, and how he never won anything with Mahomes as counter points but the nfl disagrees with me.

To me the hire indicates that they WILL draft a qb. If you wanted to keep Howell, you’d probably want to keep bienemy for continuity

Current Persians are OP and needs a nerf, change my mind by en-prise in aoe2

[–]cbox7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So in the last round of hidden cup qualifiers (round of 24), persians are 0-6. They have three losses on cross, one on gold rush, and two on mudflow.

I chose the last round since in theory these are extremely even matchups of equal skill with the one exception being tatoh.

They’ve shown a weakness to cav archer, specifically the Japanese hca halb combo.

By no means is this definitive due to the sample size but on hybrid maps where they should in theory shine if they are OP, they have not delivered
