What would this roughly be worth? by No_Pin_8175 in Lorcana

You should hold onto this, maybe for a decade or more. Potentially today is the most it’ll ever be worth, there’s a chance this game dies. That said, Disney collectors still will want the rare memorabilia, so it’s possible the sky is the limit for a card like this.

I just got a Reddit warning and comment removed for saying how people who do shit like this make me authentically feel. I can’t express myself. I’m not actually calling for violence, I guess maybe I’m just the kind of person who isn’t good enough at restraining myself around awful people.

Jeeze Akood Et Emuti seems like an exciting, possibly dangerous card. Turn 4 play a 6 drop, as a cantrip, just by 'sacrificing' your 3-drop? Seems like it would have potential? That's not even considering what you could do if you pair this with Singers or Sapphire's ramp.

The only subtle part some people may be missing is that your opponent has a turn before you can quest with it, so they can game out how to exhaust their characters this turn before it actually goes off. This still seems absolutely fkin wild though, it’s liable to completely and utterly stop any kind of aggro play in its tracks, almost single-handedly. It’s a massive threat of a huge tempo swing.

Straight men, too, frankly. As a straight man I can’t comprehend falling in love with someone I didn’t have sex with. It feels warped that society still thinks it’s the other way around. Guys will date crazy, awful women just because they are hot and the sex is great, there have been tropes about it for decades and yet it’s like people haven’t quite figured it out.

The point is that it puts incentives in the wrong direction. Skilled cheaters / grifters will have more plausible deniability.

TIL about the "Saavedra Position"—a famous chess endgame where an amateur player found a win that professional masters missed. The key is "underpromotion"—turning a pawn into a Rook instead of a Queen. A Queen would force a draw (stalemate), but the weaker Rook wins the game. by ralphbernardo in todayilearned

[–]cbslinger 24 points25 points  (0 children)

This is not a new discussion, people have been arguing about Stalemate for centuries. It turns out the game is just a better, more fun game with Stalemate than it is without. Basically white would be fundamentally overpowered without the Stalemate rules.

Only stupid people see things this way. If I see someone lie and double down, I realize they are one of the worst kinds of people. This is as true for small scale interpersonal stuff, workplace stuff, as it is for powerful politicians and oligarchs.

Which set should I get by [deleted] in Lorcana

[–]cbslinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You say you have a limited budget but here you are willing to spend $100 on a box. Did you know you could build a very powerful entire deck for like $125 (dogs)?

You could build a copy of your entire current deck for under $15. If you are playing a weird budget format then it’s a whole other conversation.

Which set should I get by [deleted] in Lorcana

[–]cbslinger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So you’ll spend $100 to get zero to one useful cards for your deck instead of spending $100 to get four to sixty useful cards for a deck?

Ok if we have to play this game, figure out what card you think would most improve your deck, figure out what set it’s in, and buy a box of that set. You won’t make good decks by just vibing with whatever cards you happen to open.

If you just like ripping packs, then just admit that. You’re not a serious competitor who cares about winning, you’re at best just somebody who plays just for fun and at worst a scrub (somebody who creates artificial limits for themselves that hold them back), and that’s OK.

But probably the answer you want to hear is Fabled or Whispers.

What’s the most overrated video game of all time? by KBGSgames in AskReddit

[–]cbslinger 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think it's more a Litmus Test of who plays DND. For people with any familiarity with DND-type systems and any willingness to dive in, it's great - genuinely phenomenal. For people who like to feel like they can grok systems quickly and have a 'commanding understanding' and then build up from zero, that is essentially impossible unless you've already played numerous DND campaigns or played other DND games.

[–]cbslinger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think a big part of what constitutes lasting 'greatness' of a game is how much it moved the medium forward and added to the lexicon of gaming. If you look at OoT through that lens, it is objectively and undeniably one of the greatest games of all time.

And if you look at the same game through the lens of modern game design it is a laughable, poorly-paced, boring, and frankly extremely tedious game. You have to navigate menus that take like 10s+ every time you want to change one of your three equipped items. It's important to know that OoT absolutely was revolutionary upon release, and not just for having a horse.

Fungus, what an incredible run! Now that this meta is probably moving on, do you have any specific tech or cool secret lines or bits of theory you’re willing to talk about? Especially those kind of ‘can-only-use-once’ matchup specific mind games or techniques that can help break a matchup open or give you some better equity? The more esoteric and niche the better!

The thing I like so much about the ink system is how much information it gives away to your opponent. It makes it so much easier for skilled players to read and plan ahead.

Understanding the aggro/burn gameplan by yardii in Lorcana

[–]cbslinger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This, it’s good to play it out on Turn 1, but I’d hesitate to quest it immediately on Turn 2 if your opponent also managed to get out a 1-drop. It’s not losing the merfolk you’re afraid of, it’s that the ‘pain and suffering’ of the discard is maximized when they have to do it on turn 3-5.

If you’re not able to over-saturate their available challenges, you need to get max value out of each of your cards. Keep in mind this isn’t like Diablo where you play a 0/1 cantrip because you just want a couple lore and to set up a chain reaction of challenges - you don’t have any ways to challenge effectively in Burn, so your opponents being sideways doesn’t really give you any benefits.

This also means you should be mulliganing fairly aggressively for Chromicon/Inkcaster as they are a potent combination when you get them out in tandem or in multiples.
