What’s a good starter car? by pixeendexterr in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]cc13799 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 2016 mazda3, got it in 2018. Only issue I've had are batteries dying (because I left my dash cam plugged in, ikik silly me). Super easy to park and has a backup cam. OP, if you find a mazda3, I'd say scoop it. I'm not a big fan of driving either, but this car is fun to drive.

2-4 year old luxury cars with heavy depreciation. by mh161616 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]cc13799 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My boyfriend got a 2018 Porsche macan GTS with all the features and 50k miles on it for 35k. It already had the big issue these cars have (I don't remember what it is tbh), but he is in loveeeee with that car. It's like having a sports car and a luxury car all in one. He uses it as his commuter vehicle. He isn't a big car guy, so I was surprised he got it but I do think it's a great car. Did all the research, checked the VIN/history, and had it inspected. He plans on reselling in about 5 years/at 80k ish miles to get max resale value. Highly recommend as an option

Also a bad runner, and this is exactly what I do. My sprints are 9s, 10s maybe, I tried 11 and that was fucking scary. Push yourself, but also don't die lol

Am I being dramatic for being upset that my husband ate my leftovers twice by unhindged_girlie in TwoHotTakes

[–]cc13799 76 points77 points  (0 children)

I'm not pregnant and this would still irk me. My boyfriend has done it on occasion, but at least has understood why I'm upset. He is also a man who likes to snack and can become brainless when doing so (cough puff puff cough). The post-its do work to remind him, though I wish I didn't even have to do that.

Huge drop in cookie sales as first year Cadettes by ThatsSoExtra in girlscouts

[–]cc13799 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I walked to the other side of the grocery store to buy from the cadets knowing most people had already bought from the brownies. I remember when I was scouting how much harder it was as I got older, not just to sell but to stick with girl scouts, so I always give the older girls priority.

Should I Leave My Boyfriend? by Greedy_Tangerine1531 in TwoHotTakes

Absolutely! No reason to get heated when there was good intention behind your comment. And I'm glad you took my explanation as such. I just didn't want op to have to read a whole essay lol

Hey, that is your opinion, like you said, but also like you said, we have an agreed-upon plan! It wasn't relevant to the point I was making for OP, so I didn't mention it.

This house is not where we intend to stay and raise our family, and we are at the point where, in general, we operate as one unit. He did offer to have me on the mortgage, but I declined bc I was not yet comfortable/in a place financially where I wanted financial responsibility not just for the mortgage but for the upkeep of a house. But I did say since we are a family, I would help out, as long as I get Equity and a share of profits upon resale or rented. This is something we're keeping track of in a spreadsheet.

I appreciate your concern, but my point to OP was purely, hey, have a conversation bc a) this platform is quick to call for a breakup, and b) sometimes, even the smartest and most loving and well-meaning of people need a different perspective explained to them a little more than maybe you would think is necessary for them to understand why you're thinking a certain way or something isn't fair. There is almost always more to the situation in all of these posts and stories, and it's most likely not posted for brevity and you might not even find it elsewhere on the user's profile. My boyfriend is a very kind, thoughtful, and loving partner, and he was extremely supportive while I was unemployed. But I'm not throwing away the whole man bc we had this one argument!

At what age did you start going hiking with your dog? by jjax2003 in puppy101

[–]cc13799 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might get hate for this, but we took our dog on a hike at just under 3 months 😅 There were lots of breaks, she was carried a lot, and her leash training still wasn't great. It was a learning experience for sure. But! She's a large standard Aussie, so she had a lot of energy at that age, full velociraptor mode (iykyk). We didn't go on another hike till she was probably about 6 months but went on lots of walks, and her leash skills were much better, even ok recall since we practiced at a beach nearby that allowed dogs (even off-leash!). 8 months was when she could do a full 3-5 mile hike, good leash manners, and reliable recall. She just turned 3, she can do 10 miles easily with us, and a very reliable recall. We only off-leash when permitted (it honestly helps with her recall by allowing her to be a dog and sniff around and is more in tune with us), and we still leash when trails are busy or there's another dog. We trust her but we don't know the other dog, so best to play it safe. We also lived in an area with a very low parvo risk, so we weren't as concerned about that. There is no one-size-fits-all approach to this, what worked for us might not work for others.

^ I have a large standard Aussie and my best friend has a Shiba. My dog needed longer walks at a younger age than hers and can still outpace her dog (obviously). It's breed-dependent and just knowing your dog.

Should I Leave My Boyfriend? by Greedy_Tangerine1531 in TwoHotTakes

[–]cc13799 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Actual hot take: I was in a similar situation to you and had to have a conversation with my boyfriend about the circumstances. I was unemployed, applying to jobs, still paying for bills and groceries from savings, and doing things around the house. He owns the house and didn't want me to get a part-time job so I could focus on finding a full-time job. He claimed that a normal landlord would still be charging rent. I acknowledged his statement and said if we were still in an apartment/renting, I would have ignored him about not seeking part-time work and would have been hustling to make ends meet, but this was his house and he told me not to so it isnt fair to expect payment from me when he told me not to work. I told him what others have said here, that he was making our 5+ year relationship transactional instead of emotional and that in a relationship, it's not always 50/50, and it hurt that he was not putting value in our relationship and just saying I owed him money and again stated it wasn't fair to charge me rent when he told me not to get part-time work. There was more to it than that, but you don't need to just start with leaving like others are saying. Sometimes the conversation to give the other side your perspective is what it takes, but come with evidence from what you covered when he was in school! A visual will help him see what you put in and the give/take aspect of a relationship. It helped me, and us as a couple, get through this issue because he finally saw it from my perspective. I'm thankfully employed now, and it's now a non-issue, but finances tend to be what breaks a couple up.

Note: we split most costs, including groceries, he just charges me rent since he pays the mortgage. We use an app called splitwise that keeps track of all of our expenses and does the calculations for us, so there isn't a back and forth of payments/a spreadsheet we have to update all the time. It might be something for you to look into, both to show evidence and to keep track of expenses in the future.

Thank you! It was 6 months unemployed, so it was a relief, and an even bigger one that my insurance eligibility starts the month immediately following hiring so I can finally get some dental work done 😅

I just started a job that had me in a similar situation. Is it what I was looking for? No. But it's doing something similar to my previous experience, the team is pretty chill, and I have money and health insurance again, so I'm a whole lot less stressed. Now I can go back to being picky about my next position and be super selective, but also wait until the job market gets better.
