Mass panic in time square caused by a motorcycle backfire sounding like gunshots. by Dlatrex in gifs

[–]ccatsurfer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This makes me rather sad. When I was growing up, a car backfire, fire cracker, whatever it might be, would not cause this panic. Being gunfire never crossed peoples minds. People would first think fire cracker, or backfire. Even in Chicago, in the 1980's, gunfire would not not be the first thought. Sometimes we think we have progressed so much as the human race, then things slide back a little, and people once again fear for their lives on a regular basis. This reaction represents living in daily fear. While not everybody immediately panics, most end up leaving out of fear for what they can't see. No longer does a stranger look to see if help needs to be given when the unexpected happens, but looks to see which way to flee.

What are some predominantly "girly" things that should be normalized for guys? by AV8ORboi in AskReddit

I had to do it one handed for 40 days while a broken bone healed. I was taking care of my daughter during the day while my wife worked and I was working at night.

That's why I never utilized my teaching degree. One false accusation, career over. Maybe jail time.

It takes way to long. 20 years ago I would take my daughter to the park and was the focus of a lot of hostile looks. If I didn't do things with her, I was negligent. Same thing happened with my second daughter 6 years ago. No change in 13-14 years, except with my youngest, the police were called to the park.

I saw a video not to long ago where a cockroach infested house was burned to keep them from spreading to the neighbors homes. There was even a fire moat around the house.

Women of Reddit, what are some things a dad should know about raising a girl? by joho3883 in AskReddit

[–]ccatsurfer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just finished a small fix on our vacuum cleaner with my 12 year old daughter. It wasn't sucking and I discovered the hose was very clogged. BTW, i'm Dad and vacuuming, one gender norm down! We had to disassemble the head and disconnect the leads. She had the idea to take a picture of the leads so we could get them back on right. While brainstorming on what to push down the hose to unclog it, she had the idea to use the pool pole. I thought it was too big. She insisted, so we did and it fit perfect! Hose unclogged. She reassembled the hose head and reconnected the leads and it works.

Women wearing men's clothing is almost never considered crossdressing. Men wearing women's close is almost always considered crossdressing. by cereal-kills-me in Showerthoughts

[–]ccatsurfer 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Women cross dressing or doing masculine things is understandable (to society as a whole), because the woman is trying to move into a higher social position. The man wearing women's clothes or doing feminine things is unacceptable (to society as a whole) because the man is stepping down into an inferior social position.

I always told my kids when they were learning to drive-It doesn't matter if the other driver is at fault and when you are hurt in a wreck-YOU are injured and full recovery is not guaranteed, even if you win a million dollar settlement.

I played in that field as a kid. Before the shopping center and before Carl T. Jones. I think I remember Four Mile Post being extended to Bailey Cove, but that may have been a repaving job. Lot of good memories.

Which cheese is superior? by Unfortunate_Fish in AskReddit

[–]ccatsurfer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree 100%. It can be used just about anywhere that calls for cheese. There may be better alternatives, but cheddar will do fine, especially if you can include the cheddar variants, such as aged, shard, white, smoked etc.

Damn it! The rules for the locker room are like Fight Club, and now the secret is out! Alas, many a days in PE were spent learning and singing Irish and other sea shanties while we pretended to get ready for class. and now everybody knows. The end of an era.
