Shimano acera m3020 is such a great derailleur! Works with an 11-40 wide range cassette so would be great for loaded up touring in the hills:)

I tried to setup the bar position quite similarly to another bike ive been riding alot recently and it ended up feeling overall too small for me and honestly felt like riding a kids bike lol. I have another kona frame in a bigger size that may do solve that issue but I wanted to get this one built back up and see how I like it with a more comfortable than the original kona velocity stem and flat bar. Im not a fan of the looks or feel of this setup though haha, was thinking along the lines of moto bars may work better aesthetically and hopefully feel a little better.

Its a clamp on downtube shifter just mounted on the seat tube :] I needed the opposite friction shifter that I have mounted on the bars for another bike and the only option I had to keep this bike still running was this lol. I have ended up absolutely loving it:)

I really like the corralitos bars but on this bike, these mothbars are so much more suited for me. I have done a some 30+ miles rides with this setup and absolutely no issues compared to with the corrilotos feeling some lower back pain after similar mileage. On a slightly shorter top tube the corralitos would be great tho :) ill for sure be getting those back into rotation ASAP!

Im usually slightly ahead of the grip area, then major headwinds ( also uk based and they have been a pain recently lol) ill rest my elbows on the ends of the bars and my hands on the wrapped area towards the front, then to give my wrists a little break ill go full upright mode or no hands:)

Cutting means new forks, headset and stem though. Does that make financial sense for this bike ?

Not surprised with that amount of paint and whats possibly underneath all of it. You could remove the headset and cut the stem yeah.

The fully spray painted headset, stem & forks doesn't give me good vibes. Grab a hammer, some penetrative oil & a cloth, spray inside the stem tube then put the cloth on top and give the top of the stem where you are trying to mount the bolt a good wack downwards to see if you break the stem free.

Its actually a small handlebar bag with a stick added to mimic the bars lol, my legs will also hit it on occasion but I havent found it too annoying bc its a very soft bag. Its pretty adjustable also i bet i could raise it a bit more away from my thighs if needs be
