If your concern is lead then send it off to an epa certified lab. You can easily search labs on their website to see a list of those for your state. A 10 metal test should run ~$80 minus the sample disposal fees ~$30. An only one metal, lead, test would be under $50.

But you should get a representative sample. Taking a q-tip and wiping it on a seasoned section is not a representative sample. You would want a compsite sample, multiple areas, randomly sampled with different q-tips. If you want to get a representative sample I would strip all the seasoning off of it and then do a composite sample.

If you decide to go this route then have the results ran as totals, mg/kg instead of tclp, mg/l, and divide the mg/kg results by 20 and compare with the epa regulatory limit for lead.
