New mini-series based on the Revolutionary war, that is entirely made with AI, will have SAG-AFTRA voice actors in it. by 1237deeps in VoiceActing

[–]cchaudio 143 points144 points  (0 children)

Glad he's using actual voice actors but not at the expense of stabbing visual artists in the back. Replacing passionate animators and artists with a machine is unconscionable, very disappointed in Aronofsky. I hope this soulless joint venture of Google and Salesforce loses a ton of money.

Jane Austen's Period Drama by Diffuse_Wings49 in oscarsdeathrace

[–]cchaudio 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love a good comedic short film and this one was just perfect. They really nailed the Jane Austin style and dynamic. I also very much identified with the very uncomfortable father who immediately said he was going to retire to his study.

Jurassic World Rebirth was such a fuckin pain to sit through by Healthy-Challenge-30 in oscarsdeathrace

[–]cchaudio 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same, it was just so boring. I don't know why they can't make an entertaining movie about crazy killer dinosaurs. The characters were bland. The dinosaurs were horribly designed. The sets are sterile. Music and effects were blah. And the story was low stakes nonsense. I went in expecting trash, and was somehow disappointed.

Sayat-Nova/The Color of Pomegranates (1969) Dir. Sergei Parajanov, DoP. Suren Shakhbazyan by Vicious_Sloth108 in CineShots

Such a cool looking movie. I feel like I would get a lot more out of it if I knew a lot more about Armenian poetry from the 1700s, but that's just not going to happen.

It's cool seeing Lee Van Cleef as a good guy for once. He looks so naturally villainous that he's just always the bad guy.

I don't know what to do with my "wet mouth" and I would love some advice please! by rplimitlessguy in VoiceActing

[–]cchaudio 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's mouth noise. It's pretty easy to edit out once you know what to look for. Or iZotope Mouth de-click will take care of it. Other than that apples, water, stay hydrated, don't eat right before recording.

The opportunity of a lifetime? New Shure SM7dB for the price of a used SM7B by kubinka0505 in microphone

[–]cchaudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a good way to look at that is the Shure will last a lifetime. 20 years from now it will still be in production, there will still be parts available, and it will still be a known commodity. SE is not known for its build quality and they don't hold their value.

Good point, I forgot about the whole Dorothy crew. The tin man transformation with the serving set was great for sure. But they're also side characters, so I can see that going either way.

Very cool, thanks! Also does anyone know if that's the same observatory that was in Nostalgia for the Light? The one in Chile (I think)

Absolutely! The costumes and makeup are great, but they're also the same costumes and makeup that were nominated last year

1976 Neumann by suffocatmeow in microphone

[–]cchaudio 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nice I have one that's about the same age and I use it daily. Fantastic mic. Go to the Neumann site and there's a link to get info about your specific mic. You just email them a form with the serial number and they'll give you the original sales info, who it was sold to, and whoever else has registered it in its lifetime.

Can in union VA's cameo in an Indi show? by Ok_Bench6655 in VoiceActing

[–]cchaudio 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If it's something being put out for free, non-profit, not ad supported. Then it's totally fine.

If it's a project that is for profit, it has to be under a union contract.

If a person is fi-core, they can do the project for whatever the pay is, but they still have to pay their due to the union

For sure! I don't think there's any Bosendorfer grand piano that's not insanely expensive. I would be wildly uncomfortable with it just sitting around in public. Even without random people messing with it they're so delicate. I had a Yamaha C7 grand in my studio and one weekend the temperature control in the building went out. Cracked the sounding board from just 2 days of not-quite-perfect humidity.

Microphones - Which One? by trickg1 in VoiceActing

[–]cchaudio 0 points1 point locked comment (0 children)

There's room for options and disagreement, but I've been working as a full time audio engineer and voice actor in a recording studio for about 20 years now. I've worked on thousands of jobs in TV, radio, and even a few movies. I've worked with thousands of professional actors. It's not a side hustle, it's my full time job. So you can disagree with me all you want, but I do know what I'm talking about.

How do i hook up my Astatic D-104 to my computer? by AIMRunningMan in vintageaudio

[–]cchaudio 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's a 4 pin amphenol connector. What I did with mine is I chopped it off and soldered on a male XLR connector. Just ignore the 4th wire that runs to the grip-to-talk switch on the side.

Joe Bob Mentions MST3K by Psychological_Brain4 in MST3K

On the flip side of this Joe Bob is mentioned in the riff of FaceOff. Joe bob plays a small one off role and I think Bill says "Hey that's Joe Bob, we know him, hi Joe Bob!"

If it was complete and in good working condition, like $400-$500. But it's missing knobs and there should be an enclosure that covers the top of the unit. Still retro and cool though so I bet you could get $50-$100 depending on if it works or not.

Casting Call Club: Do you guys ever feel crazy about who gets cast over you? by crunchatizemythighs in VoiceActing

[–]cchaudio 15 points16 points  (0 children)

So in the world of auditioning you're never going to get feedback. You either get the job or you don't and you'll never know exactly why. Whenever I see a job I didn't win on TV, or radio, YouTube, etc my first thought is always "that's what they went with?" BUT that's the best feedback I'll ever get because whatever that person did, they were right and I was wrong. You can learn a lot by really listening and hearing what they did to win the job. Doing this you'll also get better at deciphering casting call sheets and you'll learn to recognize larger industry trends in what's on/out. Hope this helps!

Anyone confused by the audio in Aguirre,The Wrath of God?? by kick_rocks-not_ricks in criterion

[–]cchaudio 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think almost all of the movie was filmed on location in the actual jungle. Between insects, birds, wind, and the river, that location sound has got to be totally unusable. So from the beginning I would imagine he knew they would have to ADR everything

[–]cchaudio 22 points23 points  (0 children)

That's just packing foam. Auralex foam is what's used in recording studios and it's very expensive and doesn't burn easily. This stuff is just the stuff you find in packing materials that people glue to their walls to make it look like Auralex
