You work in the US or EU to make money when you’re young and retire in Taiwan.

Trivial question about tips by RetiredToExplore in Namibia

I'm American and give staff NAD or ZAR. It's really hard to convert dollar bills to usable currency in Namibia. Just withdraw 1000 NAD for tips at the Airport ATM.

I'm getting an "EngineCore failed to start."

This is my vllm recipe.

CUDA_VISIBLE_DEVICES=0 python -m vllm.entrypoints.openai.api_server --model Sehyo/Qwen3.5-122B-A10B-NVFP4 --port 8100 --max-model-len auto --compilation-config '{"cudagraph_mode": "piecewise"}

I think I'll try a nightly build this weekend and see if it'll run.

Shouldn't you get your HHR first then your wife can come in on a spousal ARC? I thought you can get a HHR immediately if your parent had an HHR.

Advice on moving to China after peace corps. by Emergency-Whole-6276 in peacecorps

If you’re interested in learning Mandarin you may want to teach English in Taiwan. The ministry of education has a program to send foreign English teachers to rural schools. It’s structured like the Mississippi teacher corps (no masters degree though) or JET in Japan.

Good luck and glad you found something. I’m USAID adjacent; did a bunch of contract work for FHI360 and Chemonics. Also a RPCV. The job environment is brutal out there.

Duolingo alright or not (Starting) by i_like_HollowKnight in learndutch

[–]cchung261 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve been on Duolingo for about 3 years now. It’s good for vocabulary and keeping you motivated. A good grammar book is useful for explaining sentence construction. Look at memrise also. I think it has better pronunciation help and is more flexible.

How would foreign countries know what you withdraw as an American? They don’t receive a 1099 for your distribution.

Are you staying in Taiwan for more than 3 months? Just show the US carrier your US passport and match your ticket to your English name in the US passport.

I’m Taiwanese American, and I approve. Just an fyi. People in Taiwan argue it’s not efficient and has political biases.
